Lamborghini Huracan SV spied looking aggressive

Wed, May 6 2015

Despite the production fate of the Lamborghini Urus seemingly in limbo, Lamborghini isn't waiting around for another project to work on. The Aventador SV Roadster has already been spotted in the arctic, and our spies just snapped this hotter Huracan in testing, as well. Except for the stickers on the body and larger front brake calipers, this Huracan looks mostly stock... at first glance. However, once your eyes move to the rear end, there's something very peculiar. You can see a camouflaged area at the back with mesh covering it that's above the standard diffuser. Behind that, spotting the two exhaust tips is quite easy. This look shares a strong resemblance with the Huracan GT3 racecar and suggests the lower pipes on this mule might just be for show. The exact name for this special Huracan is a mystery for the moment. Lamborghini tends to reserve the SV name for its V12 models, while the V10s get the Superleggera moniker. However, the Blancpain decal on the door could suggest a relationship with either the GT3 or possibly the Super Trofeo racers. Since both of them are rear-wheel drive, this could be some confirmation for that rumored version of the road car.

Lamborghini Urus to get twin-turbo V8

Tue, Dec 1 2015

The Lamborghini Urus won't use one of the Italian supercar brand's familiar V10 or V12 engines upon its arrival around 2018, but will instead pack a Lambo-exclusive twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8. Company boss Stephan Winkelmann and research chief Maurizio Reggiani confirmed the powerplant selection to Autocar, which verified earlier rumors. The choice of turbocharging rather than the brand's usual naturally aspirated mills comes returns lower carbon dioxide emissions and a greater breadth of torque from the powerband. Even if Urus owners never take the CUV off-road, Lamborghini's engineers want it to be possible. They feel that significant grunt at low revs is necessary for the vehicle to excel in the dirt, and the company only plans to offer the Urus with all-wheel drive. Winkelmann also promises the model to live up to the automaker's huge performance reputation. "This engine is not used by anybody else, only for Lamborghini. To be the most powerful in the class it must have something that is dedicated to our brand," he said to Autocar. For buyers looking for even more exclusivity from their Lamborghini crossover, the company could offer multiple variations of the Urus after the initial launch. Winkelmann re-confirmed to Autocar that both a plug-in hybrid version and high-performance Superveloce are under consideration; there also could be a luxury-focused edition. The company hasn't signed off on any of these yet, though. Lamborghini will build the Urus in a new factory near its headquarters in Sant'Agata Bolognese, and the brand will hope to deliver around 3,000 of them annually. Expect the final model to look like an evolved version of the earlier concept. Autocar claims prices for the UK market similar to the Aventador, which starts at around $400,000 in the US. Lamborghini Telemetry X gives you real-time track driving lessons

Tue, Jan 9 2024

Lamborghini may not sound like the type of carmaker you associate with CES, but the brand has numerous new technologies in the pipeline. One is an experimental track connectivity system called Telemetry X that leverages three technologies to help the driver set faster lap times. Telemetry X builds on Lamborghini's currently-available telemetry system and on the lessons that the company has learned from years of racing. It's a blend of three systems: the Real-Time Remote Garage, the Biometric Data System, and the Digital Co-Pilot. Showcased in a Revuelto, its first function is to record and display real-time videos and telemetry data of a given driver's on-track performance. Add in 5G connectivity, and a remote driving coach can use the system to guide you through the ins and outs of, say, the Nurburgring track in Germany. For example, the instructor can provide advice, such as "brake later" or "accelerate sooner," via a headset by keeping an eye on key data points as they come in. Meanwhile, the Biometric Data System monitors the driver's biometric data, such as heart rate and stress level, and sends these figures to the driver's coach as well. Both systems work with the Digital Co-Pilot, which is a voice assistant that analyzes the data gathered by the Real-Time Remote Garage and the Biometric Data System to give the driver additional feedback on how to drive faster. While the brand stresses that Telemetry X remains at the prototype stage, it also hints that there's a good chance the system will reach production in the not-too-distant future. "Telemetry X is a perfect preview of the connected services our customers will be able to experience in the coming years," said company boss Stephan Winklemann in a statement. Perhaps tellingly, Lamborghini has at least two major product launches for the next few years: it will release the successor to the Huracan, and it will bring its first electric model to the market in 2028.
