Watch teen thieves crash two stolen Lamborghini Urus SUVs
Wed, Feb 19 2020According to Boston 25 News, a group of suspects reportedly stole two Lamborghini Urus SUVs and a Chevrolet Cruze sedan from Herb Chambers Lamborghini outside of Boston, Massachusetts, this week. The joyrides ended when the Uruses were involved in a three-vehicle rear-end accident. At roughly 3 a.m. on February 17, 2020, burglars triggered the alarm at the Lambo dealership by throwing a sizeable rock through the showroom glass to get inside. Once they had access to the dealership's inventory, the suspects grabbed the keys and drove three vehicles right off the lot, no issues. But where there's an alarm, there are police, and the suspects were quickly spotted. When the cop moved to pull the vehicles over, only the Cruze stopped, while the powerful Uruses pulled away. The two people inside the Cruze were taken into custody. Hours later, reports placed the twin-turbo V8 Lamborghinis in the nearby city of Malden, north of Boston. An officer began to follow the SUVs, which were driving around town at high speeds. Instead of getting away this time, a black Urus ran straight into the rear of a red Kia Soul, whose occupant was taken to a hospital to treat injuries. Following too closely behind his friend, the driver of the white Urus hit the rear of the black Urus. Both drivers attempted to run away, and one was able to escape. The other was taken into custody. For more information on the suspects or the locations, head over to Boston 25. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Lamborghini confirms Le Mans Daytona hybrid entry for 2024
Tue, May 17 2022Last August, Racer magazine reported that Lamborghini had green-lit a project to put a car in global endurance racing's Le Mans Daytona hybrid (LMDh) class, but wasn't ready to announce it yet. The brand's head of motorsport for the U.S. said at the time that work on a factory endurance program was "90 percent of the way there." Now, the last 10 percent has been completed, and the Sant' Agata Bolognese carmaker announced its LMDh car will start racing in 2024. The class, developed by the U.S. IMSA organization in collaboration with France's ACO, begins competing next year. Here's the refresher on the top to endurance racing categories, LMDh and Le Mans Hypercar (LMH), both of which are allowed to run in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. LMDh cars use a spec chassis provided by one of four suppliers, Dallara, Ligier, Multimatic or Oreca. LMDh teams can use any engine and electronics they want, but they will all fit a spec hybrid unit supplied by Bosch, a spec lithium-ion battery from Williams Engineering, and a spec gearbox from Xtrac. Max horsepower is limited to about 680. VW sister brand Porsche opted for a Multimatic chassis powered by a turbocharged V8. Sportscar365 believes Lamborghini will buy a Ligier chassis. Since the R8 and its V10 are headed for the dustbin, Lamborghini could use a V8 as well. Every team creates its own bodywork, the limit being a 4:1 ratio of drag to downforce and a single aero package for the year to keep costs down. As the teaser shows, Lamborghinis on the track will be known by their Y-shaped DRL signatures, too. Audi had been planning an LMDh entry, but dropped out when it confirmed its eventual entry into Formula 1. So for the moment, Lamborghini will join other LMDh manufacturers Acura, Alpine — which will switch from its current LMH car to LMDh in 2024, BMW, Cadillac, and Porsche. That latter brand is also going into F1, but hasn't axed any other programs. The LMH class is based on roadgoing hypercars, a manufacturer required to sell 20 of the retail hypercars over a two-year period to qualify. Although output's capped to around 680 hp as with LMDh, manufacturers can develop their own engines, gearboxes and hybrid systems. Discrete bodywork is allowed, held to the same drag-to-downforce ratio limit. The current LMH entries are Alpine, our own Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus, and Toyota.
Twin-turbo Lamborghini ignites at 250 mph
Wed, 18 Sep 2013Yesterday we covered a crash at the Unlimited 500+ drag race in Moscow, featuring a Nissan GT-R, but today brings better news: a Lamborghini Gallardo making 2,005 horsepower successfully went 250 miles per hour on the one-mile strip in 23.9 seconds without crashing. That's the good part. The bad part is the single-serving supercar burst into flames immediately after it crossed the finish line. Fortunately the driver was able to quickly bring the Lamborghini to a stop and get out of the car, but we have a feeling it will need some engine work before it sees any more action. That and perhaps a new paint job.
Underground Racing tuned the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera's V10 to such an astronomical power output with the help of what sounds like twin-turbochargers (which is typical of UR builds). But despite the very impressive mile time, it's still hard not to feel sorry for the poor engine, which just couldn't take the pressure. Watch the 2,005-hp Gallardo reach 250 mph - then catch fire - in the video below.
