This is a 1999 Jeep Wrangler with a fuel injected 5.3 liter v8 from a 1999 Chevy Silverado. The engine's wiring harness and computer were sent off to Novak Conversions and were professionally converted and labeled. The engine had 100000 miles on it and the jeep had a 102,000. The conversion only has less then 500 miles on it. The transmission(AX15) was from a company that cracks open trannys, cleans, inspects, and paints them. The trans in it was 1000. The engine was 900. The conversion bell housing was 450. The clutch was 350. I got Novak Conversions motor mounts and bushings which was 190. The transfer case is original, it was originally mated to the AX5 transmission that is now gone. I changed the input shaft to match the new AX15 transmission. It shifts great with the Redline MT-90 oil thats in it. The t-case was clean as a whistle when i opened it. The pick up had no debris of any kind. No metal filings. The rear was rebuilt with new bearings and spider gears. The gearing is 3:73 in the rear and the front needs to be changed to match. The driveshaft is off as of now. The floor is rhino lined and shows its wear but its great stuff. I have 4 BRAND new red letter General Grabber AT2 tires to go with it. They've never been installed I bought them yesterday. The tires on right now have 50% tread they're 33's Mud radials. I was in the middle of chamging the interior to camel tan which is why it looks weird. Ive been buying camel tan pieces and i also have the correct code vinyl paint can for camel tan which is still full. The rear tire carrier and bumper is brand new and installed last month. I have brand new never installed black 5in KCs that were to go with my brand new never installed windshield mounts. I bought both last month, still in their box to go with the jeep. The jeep needs to be programmed for the cold air intake and headers. It runs lean and makes quiet lean pops at idle. The exhaust is hot, another symptom of leanness. At cold start it runs perfect until it warms up and goes into open loop phase. because I was unaware of the effects of CAI and headers on the fuel mixture before I got my computer programmed. The engine has a brand new alternator, MAF, TPS, ECT, IAC, Spark Plugs, Radiator, rear lights, Water Pump, both O2 sensors, High Flow Catalytic Converter, fuel filter, Plug Wires, there's so much new. The Speedo, and Tach don't work cause they're unable to adapt to the signals being sent. All the other gauges work and so does the check engine light. This thing has a lot of power even running lean. I'm leaving for Boot Camp for the coast guard very soon so its priced to sell. Ive spent about 7K on it. But I'm not trying to make money on a car that still needs work. I built this with every penny i had. I took no cheap short cuts. I wanted fuel injection and was willing to spend the extra 1000 to get it. I've done all the hard stuff. The top isn't bad, no holes or bad rips. Also has a brand new steering box put in 2 months ago. but jeep needs alignment really badly. The windows are new. Call or text 7577107108. Jeep Wrangler 4xe's hybrid powertrain: Could it be headed to other FCA products?
Fri, Sep 4 2020On its own, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid is a big deal for the brand and the model line. It's the most powerful and most efficient Wrangler by significant margins, and it doesn't give up the off-road capability that makes the Wrangler so special. But another great thing about this hybrid powertrain is its potential to be transplanted into other FCA vehicles. Just to recap, the layout of the Wrangler's hybrid powertrain, front to back, is as follows: engine, clutch, electric motor, clutch, transmission. The engine is the same 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that's a standalone engine for the Wrangler. The transmission and electric motor are sort of one unit, with the motor and clutch replacing the torque converter of the transmission. And the transmission itself is the ubiquitous eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox. Its transmission code name is 8HP75PH. The ZF eight-speed is available in every FCA product with a longitudinally-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, with variations in the amount of power and torque it can handle. Not only that, but the Ram 1500 and 2500 and the Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator all have powertrains that utilize the non-hybrid version of the 8HP75 transmission specifically. Even the gear ratios for that transmission as well as the 8HP70 used in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 are nearly identical to those in the 8HP75PH. And a Fiat-Chrysler representative confirmed that the transmission portion of the hybrid drivetrain is basically carry-over from the regular 8HP75. So a transplant could be a relatively simple process. As for which of these models would be the most likely to receive the hybrid powertrain first, the Jeep Gladiator and Ram 1500 would seem like good bets, since they likely have the most similar transmissions, and the Gladiator in particular because of its closely-related underpinnings to the Wrangler. Both are also highly profitable trucks that sell well and could justify the development costs of adapting another powertrain. And in the case of the Ram, there's the impending F-150 hybrid to think about. Although Ram isn't going after a fully electric model, a PHEV could be a nice middle ground. A potential limiting factor would be whether the hybrid powertrain would be sufficiently robust to handle heavy payload and towing demands, particularly over longer periods.
NHTSA investigating power modules on Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans
Mon, 29 Sep 2014The Center for Auto Safety is officially petitioning the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to begin scrutinizing alleged problems with the totally integrated power module (TIPM) on about 24 Chrysler Group SUVs and minivans. The advocacy group claims that the part's failure can cause affected vehicles to stall or not start at all. NHTSA is still looking into the accusations and deciding whether a full investigation is actually warranted.
The CAS petition claims at least 70 TIPM failures, but according to NHTSA, six of the complaints are for models that don't have the modules. In 34 of the reported cases, the vehicles refused to start, and in 17 of them the engine stalled. There were also two allegations of smoke and one of a fire. However, none of these affected airbag deployment or resulted in a crash.
This petition isn't the first TIPM-related problem for Chrysler Group. A recent report in the New York Times alleged that it found 240 complaints potentially related to the issue on NHTSA's website alone. In September, the automaker also recalled 230,760 examples worldwide (188,723 in the US) of the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango replace the fuel pump relay circuit inside of the TIPM-7 with one external to the unit. The original part could allegedly cause the models to stall without warning. Even earlier, the company also recalled about 80,000 examples of the Jeep Wrangler and Dodge Nitro in 2007 to have the module reprogrammed.
Coronavirus shakes up America's truck market: GM outselling Ford and Ram
Thu, Apr 2 2020FCA, Ford and General Motors joined the rest of the U.S. auto industry in taking heavy volume hits due to coronavirus-related shortages of both cars and customers. The saying goes that a rising tide lifts all boats; it stands to reason, then, that a falling one would have the opposite effect. However, as we learned Thursday, the automotive market can behave in unpredictable ways. While the F-Series remained the best-selling nameplate in Q1, GM's full-size trucks are now outselling Ford's again for the first time in years, and with this upward thrust from the General, FCA's Ram was unceremoniously booted out of a hard-earned second place. While late-March sales declines hit just about every major automaker in one way or another, the model-by-model results weren't nearly so uniform. And because the market tends to be a zero-sum game, for every winner, there generally has to be a loser. In this case, that winner was GM, and its rise had to come at the expense of another automaker, in this case, Ford. F-Series sales dropped 13.1 percent in the first quarter of 2020, while sales of GM's full-sized Silverado and Sierra surged nearly 28% in the same period. FCA's Ram lineup managed a steady-as-she-goes 7% increase. All-in, GM finished the quarter with 197,743 full-size trucks sold to Ford's 186,562. Here's the full breakdown: Ford F-Series: 186,562 Chevrolet Silverado*: 144,734 Ram P/U: 128,805 GMC Sierra: 53,009 *includes 1,036 Medium Duty sales Things are a but murkier in the midsize segment, where the Chevy Colorado slipped 36% to just 21,430 units sold — just a few hundred better than the slow-selling Ford Ranger's Q1 numbers. The GMC Canyon experienced an almost identical slide, finishing the quarter with just 4,483 units sold. For perspective, Jeep sold more than 15,000 Gladiators and Toyota's midsize Tacoma slipped less than 8%, finishing the quarter with nearly 54,000 sales. We suspect this discrepancy in full- and mid-size truck sales comes from shifting incentives. Ford, GM and FCA would like to keep selling bigger trucks because there's far more profit margin built into their list prices. Even with tens of thousands of dollars in manufacturer money on the hood, big trucks still make money. Since these automakers report quarterly, we won't get another good look at these numbers until July, but if you thought that 2019 represented the new normal for U.S. auto sales, well, think again.
