1989 Jeep Wrangler Laredo With Bad Motor on 2040-cars
Rolling Meadows, Illinois, United States
1989 Jeep Wrangler Laredo. (YJ Series ) 4.2 L six cylinder engine. Our mechanic said that there is problems with the Number one cylinder which has a problem with either the cam lobes on the camshaft rounded out or maybe something happened with the lifters. The Number 3 Cylinder is not holding compression. In short the engine will have to go through major repairs or replaced. It still runs, the mechanic disconnected the two bad cylinders. It runs rough but it is drivable. The Jeep has a hard top Here is what we did to the jeep. The floor on the driver side had rusted out so we purchased a new floor pan and tack welded it into place and used an auto motive bonding agent to seal the floor pan. There were also some rust holes in the side wall on the driver side. We patched these holes with pop riveted steel plates and sealed these with an auto motive bonding agent. We used Line X truck bed coating on the floors and side walls on the interior of the jeep after cleaning some surface rust in parts of the floor. We reinstalled the carpeting. We replaced the seats with Hunsuker seats. The old seats were broken. The Hunsuker seats were black but faded to brown with the top being down during the summers . There is a tear in the driver side seat. I installed a latch system for the hardtop to connect it to the front window. It has a new Kenwood stereo with a USB port to plug in an IPOD. The body was a silver color. We removed the plastic wheel flairs and ground off the rust and coated the inside of the wheel wells with a rust encapsulater. We had the Jeep repainted a forest green color and re-installed the plastic fender flairs with new fasteners. This was all done six years ago and rust is starting to show up again. I replaced the latch mechanism on the tail gate with a brand new latch system. I also replaced a latch mechanism in the passenger door. The engine was a re-manufactured motor from Jasper Engineering. It was four years old. (That may be in its favor since the motor needs major repairs as detailed above. The Starter is three years old. The water pump is three years old. Some of the steel brake lines were replaced two years ago. The brake master cylinder was replaced last year. I installed a new radiator, hoses and thermostat last year. I installed a new cooling clutch fan last year to cool the radiator. A New carburetor was installed three years ago. A complete new exhaust system was installed six years ago. There is no catalytic converter. When the jeep would not start during the cold snap, We had it towed to our mechanic. In order to get it started he put in a new battery, Distributor cap, Rotor, Spark Plugs and Spark Plug wires. He was then able to get it started and that is when he discovered the problems with the 1 and 3 cylinders. The transfer case will shift into low gear and high gear but there is a yoke mechanism on the front axle that engages the hubs into 4 wheel drive. This is not working. There is a pressure switch on top of the transfer case that may have went out.

Marchionne uses racial epithet to describe what must power future Alfa Romeo models
Wed, 16 Jan 2013Sergio Marchionne and his Fiat empire have a lot riding on the US return of the Alfa Romeo brand. The endeavor has been in progress for what feels like a lifetime - certainly for as long as Fiat has had the Chrysler brand under its Italian wing.
It's not surprising that Fiat CEO Marchionne needs a perfect first Alfa to mark a return to America. And here's where things get dicey. Nobody would argue with Marchionne's insistence that Alfa Romeo's be powered by Italian engines - as Marchionne himself is quoted to have said at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, "There are some things that are well done in Italy."
If not what he said, then, it's how he said it that has eyebrows raised. "I cannot come up with a schlock product, I just won't. I won't put an American engine into that car. With all due respect to my American friends, it needs to be a wop engine." Wait, what's that?
Jeep Wagoneers will be separate from Grand Cherokee line
Wed, Jul 6 2016The new Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be luxury SUVs that will sit at the top of the brand's lineup. Though they will be based on the Grand Cherokee, the reintroduced SUVs will be separate models, Automotive News reports. The new Grand Wagoneer is expected to be a more luxurious version of the standard Wagoneer. The model will be similar in size to the three-row Dodge Durango. The Durango rides on a stretched version of the Grand Cherokee platform. Comments from Jeep brand chief Mike Manley seemed to imply to Automotive News that the two might be high-grade trims on the Grand Cherokee, though a Jeep spokesman later clarified that's not the case. AN predicts the new Wagoneers will debut after 2019, as the Grand Cherokee was pushed back to late 2018 or 2019. Manley says the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer historically represent the best Jeep has to offer. Previous versions were based upon the the Jeep SJ platform that also underpinned early Jeep Cherokees. The Grand Wagoneer name was last used as a trim level on the 1993 Grand Cherokee. Related video: News Source: Automotive NewsImage Credit: Jeep Jeep SUV Luxury
2016 Jeep Wrangler to ditch solid axles to save weight?
Tue, 29 Oct 2013Hey, Jeep fans. If you think the idea of a funky-looking, car-based Cherokee revival is offensive, have a listen to what might be in store for the next-gen Jeep Wrangler. Automotive News is reporting that as Jeep develops the 2016 Wrangler, weight reduction is a crucial target, and the Wrangler's rugged solid axles could be sacrificed in the name of better fuel economy.
We've already heard the next Wrangler will go on a serious diet using aluminum body panels and an air suspension system, so the idea of a four-wheel independent suspension setup for this OG SUV isn't all that surprising. Besides, it's not like an independent suspension would limit the Wrangler's off-road abilities - just check out the Hummer H1. In fact, it might be the aftermarket parts companies - not Wrangler enthusiasts - who would be most disappointed by such a drastic suspension change, as the article states that the Wrangler's solid axles and coil-link suspension make it the most popular SUV for customization.
There are probably still a couple years before we'll start hearing any concrete details about the 2016 Wrangler, at which time it will be interesting to see how stricter fuel economy and crash safety regulations have been balanced with traditional Wrangler cues like its removable doors and roof and folding windshield. Let us know in the comments below if a Wrangler sans solid axles is any less of a Wrangler.
