1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

This has been a great vehicle for me.  I have owned this Jeep for roughly three years.  I am in the process of moving and am looking to part ways with my Jeep.  This Jeep is a classic.  It has been a good runner for me.  I talked with my wife at great detail about this and have come to realize a few things.  1) I am not a mechanic. 2) I do not want to become a car guy because I would rather spend my money on other hobbies.

I have noticed over the past few months that there was some oil leaking from the Jeep. I took the Jeep into a mechanic this week and was given the following things to look at.  1) Manifold Gasket Set  2) Valve Cover Gasket Set  3) Battery  4) Coolant.  The estimated repairs with parts and labor at this specific shop came out to $888.04.  Please be aware of this.  These are repairs the mechanic could see from the outside of the engine.  There could be more once the engine is worked on.  The driver side window needs a new track in order to function.  I was told by the same mechanic the part can be purchased for about $10.  I have a picture of the window motor in my pictures.  The plastic track is what needs to be replaced.  There are minor rust spots on the body.  There is a major rust spot through the rear passenger side floor.  This spot goes through the floor and is the size of a softball.  Please see the pictures.  I had the mechanic fix the tow package, so you could pull something if desired.  The interior is in fair to good shape.  The carpet is in good shape in both the front and middle of the Jeep.  The carpet has started to deteriorate in the rear of the Jeep.  If you look at the pictures, you will see a wiring system sticking out of the back door of the Jeep.  This was something I had installed to operate the rear window.  On this particular model, you need to roll down the rear window before opening the tailgate.  If you look closely at the mileage gauge, the number in the one hundred thousandths place looks different.  This has led me and my wife to feel as if a previous owner has tampered with the mileage gauge.  Once again, I am not a mechanic.  I want to make sure I am being as honest as possible with this description.  If you have questions on anything else you see, please let me know.

On a final note, I am looking to sell this Jeep because I feel I can spend my money on other hobbies.  This would be an awesome vehicle for somebody looking to restore or have a fun project at home.  There is a reserve on this Jeep because it does have a lot of nice qualities to it.  The best being that it is a cool ride.  Please feel free to email me your questions and I will try to be as honest as possible about it.  Please understand my knowledge of everything automobile related is limited, but I will try to do my best to help you out.

Chrysler expecting up to 200,000 9-speed transmissions for 3 models this year

Tue, 22 Jan 2013

Striving for improved fuel economy, we already knew that Chrysler will begin using a nine-speed automatic transmission in some of its new products this year, but what we haven't known is that volume at which this gearbox will be used. According to Bloomberg, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has been quoted as saying that the automaker expects to sell close to 200,000 units equipped with this new transmission in 2013. Those gear-rich trannies will be spread out across three models, consisting of the redesigned Chrysler 200, the still-unnamed Jeep Liberty replacement and the Dodge Dart.
This transmission should play a pivotal role in making Chrysler vehicles more competitive in their respective segments. Just for comparison, one of the Dart's key competitors, the Toyota Corolla, still uses a four-speed automatic, and a previous report indicates that the next-generation 200 could get up to 38 miles per gallon on the highway, which is better than most non-hybrid midsize sedans on the market. Marchionne says that the new Jeep model is expected during the second quarter of this year, but there is no word as to when the new 200 or nine-speed Dart will debut, but clearly Dodge would like to have the transmission in its compact yesterday. As for that volume figure, it definitely doesn't seem out of reach since the Dart, Liberty and 200 combined for a total of more than 225,000 units in 2012.
How many more gears can we expect in future cars? Probably not many more, since the CEO of transmission-builder ZF, Stefan Sommer, previously stated that nine speeds was the "natural limit" for transmissions.

Editors' Picks January 2022 | Ford Maverick, Jeep Grand Cherokee and more

Wed, Feb 9 2022

This month, we awarded Editors' Pick awards to a number of totally redesigned, new models. Most notable of the bunch is the 2022 Ford Maverick. Ford took a chance on a new segment, and its execution is as close to perfect as we could hope for. The Hyundai Santa Cruz is a worthy competitor, though, and was also named an Editors' Pick. Also in this list, we have the redesigned Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's an excellent SUV, and it's only going to get better when the plug-in hybrid 4xe model hits the roads. In case you missed our previous Editors' Picks posts, here’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get EditorsÂ’ Pick status. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. The list that youÂ’ll find below consists of every car we rated in January that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Quick take: Jeep's midsize SUV hits it out of the park with the latest generation. We could stand to see some powertrain innovation, but the Grand Cherokee's premium proposition is sound. Score: 8.0 What it competes with: Honda Passport, Hyundai Santa Fe, Ford Edge, Chevrolet Blazer, Nissan Murano Pros: Highly capable, luxurious interior, choices aplenty Cons: Pricey, fuel economy From the editors Associate Editor, Byron Hurd — "Jeep did almost everything right with the redesigned Grand Cherokee. Its powertrain offerings are fairly unremarkable, but the new two-row 4xe will go a long way toward addressing that. It's an otherwise fantastic, modern, luxurious Jeep SUV." In-depth analysis: 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee First Drive Review | 1 fewer row, 1 more touchscreen   2022 Ford Maverick Quick take: The Ford Maverick offers tremendous value, efficiency, incredibly well-thought-out packaging, plenty of storage, a fairly engaging drive and ease of use, all with the utility of a pickup bed. We like the hybrid, but the EcoBoost engine and FX4 package offer more capability. Score: 8 What it competes with: Hyundai Santa Cruz Pros: Very affordable, Hybrid fuel economy, compact size Cons: Tight backseat, FWD only Hybrid, no cruise control in base trim From the editors: Green, Senior Editor John Beltz Snyder — "The Maverick is simply a dynamite package. It's smart, useful, drivable, efficient, providing affordable utility in the underserved compact pickup segment.

Watch this 840-hp Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 walk away from GT-Rs and M3s

Thu, Dec 11 2014

This last-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 does things that SUVs just shouldn't be able to do, like win drag races against tuned Nissan GT-R and BMW M3 coupes. Granted, the owner isn't coming into this fight with a stock Jeep – far from it. In addition to twin turbos whistling away, he says the engine is a 449-cubic-inch V8, which is nearly 7.4 liters of displacement. As it runs here, the driver claims that the turbos are pumping out around 14 psi of boost to give an estimated 840 horsepower. What's more, he further maintains the powertrain could reach around 1,200 hp with things fully cranked up. Even somewhat dialed back, this Jeep is ready to take on a breadth of formidable challengers, including a couple of Chevrolet Corvette models and a Lamborghini Aventador. Check out the video to see how this menacing Grand Cherokee fares in a day at the races.
