If you're over 40, you'll surely remember the original "King of the Big 4x4 Luxury Cruisers" before Cadillac, Range Rover, Lincoln and Mercedes got into the act. It was the gorgeous, luxurious, fully equipped Jeep Grand Wagoneer. This basic body lasted from 1966 to 1991 (the second longest run of a single body style, exceeded only by the original VW Beetle!) , and was popular with the jet set in the North East, particularly the Hamptons of New York, Miami, and in Beverly Hills, Carmel and in the rich suburbs of San Francisco. They have become quite collectable, with a number of major high-end restorers now specializing exclusively in Wagoneers. Google Wagonmaster.com, as an example. Also check out the Wagoneer history on Wikipedia. A strong aftermarket parts industry now supports restorers of these classic luxury SUV's. Values have risen fast, as they're becoming rarer. What's special is not only the fully loaded luxury interior with the knee deep carpet and power everything, but the fact that this is a Jeep. Large and powerful, this car will go anywhere, any time. This specific G.W. isn't in show condition, but presents itself as a very competent and very clean original specimen. It works well, is missing nothing, and (give or take a paint job) is pretty darned presentable! But it's more than just something to look at. This Jeep is a SERIOUS on-off road 4 wheel drive, ready for the mountains, snow, sand or rocks, and it's amazingly maneuverable, making U-turns tighter than most small cars could.
I am the 3rd owner. The 2nd owner had it about 19 years of its life, and he used it for what it was designed for, took great care of it, thus, we're lucky to have it in good, sound working condition. The AMC built 360 V-8 and Chrysler Torque Flite 3 speed automatic transmission run smooth and quiet. The freshly re-done R-12 air conditioning is powerful and cold. The interior is mostly original and very nice for its age. The front seat and headliner have been re-done. It even has the original Jeep carpeted floor mats and roll-out cargo cover! It's important to note the expensive wood grain trim is in AMAZING condition. This is the most expensive part of restoration on most of these cars. Not a problem on this one. Even the original leather wrapped steering wheel is nice. The exterior is very clean, but the early style clear coat is peeling off, which is hard to see in the pictures. The car needs a paint job, if you want to display it. I have a bid for single stage repaint of $1375, if you'd like me to get it done for you.
The tires are very good all season radials, plus I have an extra set of the rare factory wheels, mounted with a set of serious off road tires, and some extra wheel centers (rare) which you can have if you like. I also have a set of the big factory service manuals in mint condition, and a lot of early service records. Call me for complete information and history. The car is in Fresno, CA, and all 3 owners lived right here in warm, dry Central California, where car bodies last forever. The old Wagoneers were famous for rusting through quickly. This car has no rust. What a great piece of history!
On a completely different note, this car, just as it is, would make the ultimate daily driver for a mountain man or a weekend off-road hobbyist who really loves big Jeeps or carries 6 passengers. It's strong, sure footed, competent, powerful and it also tows big trailers well. This is a non-computer controlled non-fuel injection straightforward car from the past, and it's simple to fix. Plusd it'll carry 6 adults up a "wall" in deep snow or sand! It recently passed the California Smog test, and will pass again.
559-892-1941 will get you in touch with me, for all the information and history you'd like to get. You're welcome to visit for an inspection. I can get you more pictures, and answer many other questions if you call or email. This is a fun car to own, and is a hard worker as well as a luxury cruiser. This is a no-reserve auction. Highest bidder at close will own the Jeep. I have sold many of my toy cars on ebay over 14 years. I buy them, work on them, drive them for awhile, and move on to the next project. I'm old and the hobby keeps my heart ticking! I do have a friend over on the coast, who keeps "making noises" about buying the car. I MIGHT stop the auction for a bid more in line with the Wagoneer's actual value. I hate doing that, but this opening bid is less than half the value of the car. Nonetheless, there is NO RESERVE and, assuming the probability that the auction runs its week, I will sell to the high bidder. Best of luck!! Thanks!

Jeep Wrangler pickup spy photos reveal production truck bed
Thu, Apr 27 2017The last time we saw the Wrangler pickup undergoing testing, it was sporting a strange pre-production bed that looked as though it had been pulled off a Ram 1500. It seems development has progressed since then, because, despite the heavy camouflage, the Wrangler in these spy photos is definitely carrying a production-ready bed. Unlike the earlier test bed, this bed has sides that are the same width as the cab, and the top of the bed matches up with the body line on the cab. The bed is properly boxy and straight-edged like a Wrangler, too. It looks quite good, and actually very similar to the custom AEV Brute. However, unlike the Brute, the traditional plastic wheel arch flares seen below the camo extend farther forward, and the angle of the flares' forward edges match those of the rear doors. The rest of the truck is rather well covered, so there aren't many more details to glean from the photos. There is a very large rear window, which should be good for visibility. Even though the roof is covered, we expect a removable roof of some sort is hiding underneath, since the previous prototype had removable panels like those on the current Wrangler Unlimited. We also expect a turbocharged four-cylinder and a naturally aspirated V6 to be offered as engines on this and other new Wranglers, as well as the possibility of a diesel of some sort. As for when we'll see the Wrangler pickup, we would expect a reveal in early- to mid-2019, with trucks appearing on lots in very late 2019 or early 2020. This is based on a report from The Detroit News that says production will begin in 2019. Related Video:
April Fools' Day brings Jeep Sedan, Hyundai N Roadster, Toyota Yaris pickup and more
Mon, Apr 1 2019There is one day out of the year when public relations professionals have permission to lie to journalists and to the public: April Fools' Day. Manufacturers release details about wild, weird and wacky new technology, concept vehicles and services. Some take it to obvious outlandish extremes (Jeep Sedan anybody?), while others plot to mislead with products that are just outside the realm of possibility. Check out all the "jokes" below. BMW Motorrad BMW doesn't want to exclude anybody from experiencing the thrill of high-level racing, so it is introducing 'iRace" autonomous programming on its S 1000 RR sport bike. It includes beginner, sportsman, advanced and unlimited driving modes, and stores GPS information for all Superbike world championship tracks. Hyundai Hyundai is wrong for this. The Hyundai N Roadster is the work of South Korean designer Yeonjoon Park and features a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, rear-wheel drive and a hard convertible top. Hyundai says this is a "concept (for now)," but we think it'd make a seriously great Mazda Miata competitor. Honda Honda wins the award for the best interactive gimmick, as its press release for the '90s-inspired special-edition Pastport includes a live hotline number with a message from Fred Savage. Call 1-833-PASTPORT for more information. Jeep Put the Jeep Cherokee face on the Chrysler 300's body, and voila! The 2019 Jeep Sedan is born. We can't decide if the name or the rendering is better. Land Rover Accessibility to charging ports is of major concern to anybody with a plug-in vehicle. So, with the recent launch of the Range Rover P400e and Range Rover Sport P400e, Land Rover is putting forth an effort to install more stations around the globe. First up is Scotland's Isle of Skye. Adventurers need juice too! Lexus Australia Lexus expands its Encore service to include doggos. The new service, called Enpaw, will take pups to luxury boarding kennels in style. Toyota U.S. Toyota created the Yaris Adventure pickup for "those who want to tell their friends they own a truck but never veer off pavement." It's part Mazda 2, part RAV4, 100 percent ute and it looks ... great? Creating a new segment might be all fun and games to Toyota, but Ford is reportedly considering a Focus-based ute in a similar, albeit larger, style. Toyota Australia Toyota is launching a new HiAce van, and it's already getting a limited-edition variant called the PieAce.
Retro Review covers that Jeep Wrangler TJ you wanted in high school
Fri, May 8 2015The Jeep Wrangler TJ holds a dear place in my heart. When they were introduced, the return to circular headlights helped pull my dad into the dealer, and he bought one. A few years later, I learned how to drive a stick in that Jeep. Now, MotorWeek has fired up the time machine for a look at the '97 Wrangler as part of the Retro Review series. One of the great things about these videos is that they offer a chance to see if nostalgia lives up to reality. In this situation, that seems to be the mostly case. Even when new, MotorWeek finds a lot to praise about the TJ, especially in terms of handling and style. It's not all perfect, though, with a major complaint about the braking. Watch the clip to see if the show's take on the Wrangler lives up to your memories of them, too.
