1989 JEEP COMANCHE with 2000 Jeep Cherokee swap and Sprintex supercharger.
I have spent the last 8-years and over $20k in parts not including labor and purchase price of the Jeep to build what you currently see. Everything is swapped correctly (no hack and splice). Full Cherokee harness swapped and OBD2 fully functional as well as airbags and other power options (AC, cruise control, power mirrors, gauges, etc).
Started with a clean rust free 1989 Comanche pioneer and tore it down to just a cab and frame. Then swapped everything from a 2000 donor Cherokee. The 2000 Cherokee motor is a coil on plug version and had 41,453 miles on it when I did the swap. Because the donor Cherokee cluster had idiot lights instead of gauges I had to purchase a junkyard cluster with gauges that started at 117,800 miles. The cluster now shows 145,949 (and rising as I daily drive this). So actual millage on the engine and transmission are about 70k miles. The current suspension and axles were swapped in about 2 years ago and the super charger kit was installed in February of this year. Everything functions as designed and runs as reliable as a stock 2000 Cherokee.

WHAT IT NEEDS
TECHNICALLY DOESN'T NEED ANYTHING TO BE ENJOYED AS I CURRENTLY DAILY DRIVE THIS.
BUT FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN WHEELING IT, IT COULD USE A FINISHED REAR BUMPER (THE CURRENT STEEL IN BACK IS A STARTING POINT BUT NOT FINISHED)
IT COULD ALSO USE SOME ROCK SLIDERS FOR PROTECTION OF THE ROCKERS.
THE SUPERCHARGER IS RUNNING ON MY BASE TUNE (RUNS GREAT) BUT COULD PROBABLY SEE AN INCREASE IN MPG AND POWER IF DYNO TUNED (CURRENTLY GET 11.5 TO 13.2 MPG DEPENDING ON DRIVE STYLE)
ALSO HAD TO SWAP TO A FIRST GEN CHEROKEE POWER STEERING RESERVOIR (RES ONLY NOT PUMP) TO CLEAR THE SUPERCHARGER. THE RES SEEPS A BIT (HAD PLANS TO GO PSC HYDRO ASSIST STEERING BUT NEVER GOT AROUND TO IT) OR A RESERVOIR FROM A 99-04 GRAND CHEROKEE COULD WORK.

THAT'S ABOUT IT. DRIVES DOWN THE FREEWAY GREAT. NO BUMP STEER OR DEATH WOBBLE. I HAVE HAD IT UP TO 95 MPH BUT THE RPM'S GET A LITTLE HIGH AT THAT POINT. YES I HAVE WHEELED IT, BUT NOT ABUSED. OVERBUILT IT FOR MY LEVEL OF WHEELING.

Jeep hackers return to take over your steering wheel

Wed, Aug 3 2016

Last year, security researchers Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek made headlines by remotely hacking a Jeep, killing the transmission and applying the brakes while Wired reporter Andy Greenberg was behind the wheel and driving in traffic. The hack led to a 1.4 million-vehicle recall for Fiat Chrysler and new jobs at Uber's Advanced Technology Center for Miller and Valasek. Despite the cushy new gigs, the two of them apparently aren't done hacking Jeep Cherokees for sport. In their latest exploit, the pair can gain even more control over a vehicle, but it would also be extremely difficult to pull off in a real-world setting. Here's the harrowing part first: Miller and Valasek can do more than just apply the brakes at low speed or cut the transmission this time around. Now they can turn on the parking brake, mess with the cruise control and hijack the auto-parking system to jerk the steering wheel a dangerous 180 degrees while the car is in motion. It looks about as frightening as it sounds: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Although it's not hard to see how that would make for a very terrifying drive, there's a big grain of salt that comes along with it: Miller and Valasek actually used the same model 2014 Jeep Cherokee as the original demonstration, but without the software patch applied. Or, as Wired put it, "imagine an alternate reality," where a fix had never been made. Unlike before, the latest hack requires a physical connection plugging their laptop into the Jeep's OBD-II diagnostic port under the dash. The team also had to update the Jeep with their own firmware to disable some of the car's built-in safety checks before they could get much control. In other words: In order to get hacked, Jeep owners would first need to roll back their car's firmware to an older version, invite someone to remove security features and then also let them ride shotgun with a computer. Or, as Engadget's resident security expert Violet Blue wrote on Twitter, it's sort of a non-threat. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. That said, The Verge points out that it may still be possible to exploit OBD-connected wireless dongles like the Metromile Tag, Automatic Link or other similar devices currently marketed by insurance companies.

Winter storm got you down? Try snowboarding through Manhattan

Tue, Jan 26 2016

Two filmmakers decided to make the best of this weekend's historic snowstorm by turning New York City into a winter sports enthusiast's wonderland. Popular YouTube based filmmakers Casey Neistat and Jesse Wellens uploaded this video of Neistat snowboarding through the empty streets of Manhattan yesterday. While officials were warning motorists to avoid driving in the blizzard, Neistat and his buddy were being pulled by a Jeep Wrangler through Times Square. It goes without saying that this stunt is suicidally dangerous. There are several moments in the video where Neistat gets pretty close to wiping out on the back of parked, snow covered cars or on the cornerstones of buildings. All to the soundtrack of Frank Sinatra's New York, New York, no less. The police do make a cameo, but NY's finest admit to merely wanting to watch the escapades. "Someone complained about you, so we're going to act like we're talking to you," the unnamed officer can be heard saying on video. The original video has since gone viral, and currently stands at over 6.2 million views in just 24 hours. Despite the virality of their tricks, please do not attempt this in your own snowbound metropolis.

2018 Jeep Wrangler will have an aluminum hood and doors, leaked memo says

Fri, Sep 16 2016

Earlier this year, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne revealed that 2018 Jeep Wrangler would feature a heavy dose of aluminum, though he didn't specify how. Now, JL Wrangler Forums says the Wrangler will use the material for the hood and the doors, citing an internal bulletin from aluminum supplier Alcoa. According to the forum, the company says the next-gen Wrangler will utilize Aloca's C6A1 (an internal name) high form alloy. The SUV will also get 6022 and A951 from Alcoa that will be used on the SUV's front and rear doors, as well as for the hood. Alcoa's C6A1 is the company's new high form alloy, while its 6022 alloy sheet can be found on things like a car's hood, door, or closure panels. Alcoa's A951 is the company's pre-treatment aluminum sheet bonding technology that it uses on automobiles. "A team in the Farmington Hills (Michigan, USA) Aerospace and Automotive Products group is leading a new profitable growth opportunity with the 2018 Jeep Wrangler program. The next generation Jeep becomes the first to utilize our C6A1 high form alloy; we are currently the only supplier of this high form product. Alcoa will also supply 6022 and A951, including front and rear door inners, hood outer and inner." As Marchionne pointed out earlier this year, the 2018 Wrangler won't be made entirely out of aluminum. So Alcoa's contribution to the upcoming SUV's doors and hood could be the only components that use the lightweight metal – or Jeep could be using another aluminum supplier for other parts. Large changes lie ahead for the 2018 Wrangler, which include a pickup version, new engines, and aluminum. But we do know that the next Wrangler is that it will be built in Toledo, OH, as FCA announced plans to spend $1.05 billion to retool the Wrangler factory, while also adding another site in Illinois earlier this year.
