Well here it is. Up for sale is my unmolested & original 1975 Jeep CJ5 !
This is the last year that the CJ5's came with the under seat storage unit on the passengers side.
Unfortunately I need a highway vehicle to take me from Austin to Dallas on a weekly basis with cargo, so I need to sell the CJ in order to purchase a more suitable means of transport.
The Jeep comes complete with brand a new BestTop black Tiger top. Never installed and complete with doors & hardwear in the box. Along with a bikini top, all the original manuals and then some. I have all documents of work done to the Jeep that I will include in the sale.
The Jeep is a daily driver and runs great. 3 speed. Mechanically sound with no leaks. The engine starts & runs strong and the transmission shifting is smooth with no problems. Along with the 4x4.
I've always taken good care of the Jeep with no serious off roading or horseplay.
It's a beautiful desert tan color with black interior. A true survivor Jeep that is getting harder to find unmolested with aftermarket set ups !!
I have the clear title on hand.

THE PICTURES SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES.

Things that don't work:

Reverse lights disconnected.
Windshield wipers not functioning.
Speedometer does not work (milage unknown)
Voltmeter does not work.

Body :

Original green painted desert tan back in 2010.
Comes with original factory tachometer.
OEM tire carrier.
Front rubber floor mat
4 Aftermarket airplane style latch seat belts front & rear
The rear fold up seat is in great condition. The front seats could use a cover.
Beautiful tires that still have some road time on them and vintage wheels. ** Note that when making slow very sharp turns the front tires will rub a bit on the wheel well.
The body over all is in good shape but nowhere near perfect, nor am I implying that. With very minimal surface rust where bubbling has begun as seen in the pics.

Mechanics :

258 original 6 cyl.
3 speed.

I'm not a mechanic. I drive it daily and runs like a champ with no issues. No knocking, dragging, clanking, oil dripping, smoking, etc. I'm including all paperwork/receipts of work done to the Jeep since 2010.
I've never played with the winch so don't know if it will function.

Included in the sale :

NEW BestTop Tiger top (black) with all equipment in the box.
Brown bikini top
NEW plastic glove box
NEW steering wheel
Sun visors
Rare vintage "Jeep" tool kit
Rear seat

We test the latest Easter Jeep Safari off roaders in Moab

Sat, Mar 31 2018

The Easter Jeep Safari began as a play for tourism: in 1967 the Moab Chamber of Commerce invited "the Jeeping community" to ride a single trail on the Saturday before Easter. The attendees were mostly members and friends of the Chamber of Commerce. Now, 52 years later, the nine-day Safari takes place on more than 40 trails and lures thousands of Jeepers, who put on one of the biggest and best modified Jeep shows in the world. Cue the designers at Jeep and Mopar, who mastermind new ideas every year for what a modified Jeep could look like, with inspiration from the experiences they have and the mods they see at the Safari. We flew to Moab to drive the seven newest concepts, and start the recap with the disappointments: The B-Ute and the 4-Speed, but only because we couldn't drive them. Before the day had properly begun, those two designer treats had tapped out. The Renegade – internally codenamed B Utility, hence the "B-Ute" name – always feels like The Little Engine that Could when placed next to its halo Wrangler brother. In addition to the cosmetic changes, designers put the arcane caption "Lt. Jenkins" above "FWD1337" (explanations of those two memes here and here). The B-Ute would have been nice to drive if for no other reason than shouting "Leeeroy Jenkins" all around the course. View 16 Photos We rued missing out on the 4-Speed. The blue wonder is the third of a conceptual trio called "The Lightweights," focused on nimble trail handling provided by weight savings. The first of the Lightweights, the 2011 Pork Chop concept, cut 900 pounds from a standard Wrangler Sport. The 2013 Stitch concept lopped 1,100 pounds. The 4 Speed omits 900 pounds. Jeep brought both earlier concepts, and they were revelations. The Stitch was a throwback to stripped-out Dukes-of-Hazard-style Jeep romping. Round vents at the edges of the instrument panel act as side mirrors, Fiat Abarth seats grip occupants, the lemon-hued bikini top sewn from a transparent welding curtain bathes the cockpit in yellow light. Daisy Duke drove a 1980 CJ-7 that had 87 horsepower to move 2,700 pounds. The Stitch weighs about 3,200 pounds, but gets 290 hp. The Stitch skimmed over rocks and floated over sand, so light on its feet that Jeep lead designer Mark Allen told us the 35-inch Mickey Thompson MTZ tires were inflated to a mere 3 psi. The 4-Speed concept's pretty close to the Stitch weight thanks to carbon bits and lighter four-cylinder engine.

Federal investigations about safety of rear-mounted gas tanks is nothing new

Sun, 09 Jun 2013

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Chrysler are currently making waves in our daily news feeds due to a disagreement over the safety of a few million Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee models. Specifically, NHTSA has asked Chrysler to recall the SUVs because of the location of their fuel tanks, but you may be interested to know that requests such as this are nothing new.
Besides the two Jeep models, NHTSA has launched investigations over the years in such models as the Ford Crown Victoria (and its police-car counterpart), GM pickups built between 1972 and 1987, and rather famously the Ford Pinto.
Understanding how automakers and NHTSA have dealt with fuel-tank-safety concerns in the past may offer a better understanding of how Chrysler and the government agency will settle their current dispute. Check out the complete article from The Detroit News here.

Top horsepower-per-dollar cars in 2017

Tue, Feb 17 2015

Bang for the buck. That quasi-scientific statistic is bandied about by motor heads everywhere from classrooms to barrooms, though the truth of the matter is that it's exceedingly complex to measure. A fair performance-per-dollar index would include something like cross-referencing MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) with point-to-point times on a track or driving route, which is obviously hard to do comprehensively. But, for the sheer joy of talking about cars and playing with a big spreadsheet, there's always the horsepower-per-dollar index, which is more straightforward, albeit hilariously flawed. There are vagaries even with this simple formula, of course: MSRP for vehicles can change at a moment's notice, to say nothing of the bottom-line shifting that happens with local deals or showroom negotiation. For this list we're running with the straight MSRP wherever possible, and as recently reported as we can get it. All the vehicles on this list are 2017 models, and all trims are reported where the lowest price and differing power levels intersect. Some choices were made for personal preference and some for sanity, avoiding things like all 48 trim levels of the Ford Transit, all with the same horsepower). If this list were a simple top ten, or even a top fifty, you'd be bored to tears with all the red, white and blue that is represented. Following perfectly with conventional wisdom, American cars really do lead the world where hp/$ is concerned. So, for the sake of variety (and the sheer joy of seeing a minivan 'win' one round of this thing) I've sorted out some top five and bottom five lists for broad power categories. Let's dive in. Less Than 100 Horsepower Okay, okay, this is hardly a category we'll grant you. But we've often tried to click off all the sub-100-hp cars on sale in the US, and making this list gave us an excuse. It also illustrates that none of these smallish vehicles bring cheap horsepower to the table - for that you'll need a motorcycle. The segment-leading Chevy Spark (above) asks just over $139 for each hp, and that Smart Fortwo Electric Drive has hp on sale for about the same price as its very distant family cousin, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (insert your favorite Smart joke here... we know you want to).
