Selling my 1983 Jeep Scrambler CJ-8 in literally perfect condition. It has been undergoing a frame-off restoration for the last 7 years with the previous owners that I bought it from right down to the nuts and bolts. I bought it from them and finished it in Austin with my company, Vintage Innovations, and Jeep Masters. Everything on this is new or like new. Has everything that you love about these old Scramblers, and none of what you hate. The partition in the front of the bed has been removed in favor of the entire cab being open, which makes it feel like a very long CJ-7. The original gauges were all replaced with an aftermarket gauge cluster to improve accuracy, and the tall hard doors were traded for the more recent TJ doors. The soft top is fantastic, and easily flips back in seconds. She has a 3-inch suspension lift which I think makes it look way better with the length of these, and brand new BF Goodrich 33x12.50's all the way around. There are only 550 miles on this since the restoration was completed, she hasn't even had her first oil change yet.
You will literally need rotator cuff surgery from all the high-5's you'll be getting in this thing. The response to it is a lot of fun, Jeep fans go nuts when they see it. It is, for all intents and purposes, the equivalent of a "new" Jeep, but WAY cooler because its a classic...and less than 1/2 the price of the new Rubicons.
I buy cars as a hobby and sell them, this Jeep has been an awesome project and I am really on the fence about selling it. I have a number that I will let it go for, otherwise I'll just keep it.
The mechanical details: fresh crate 258 straight 6 with 4-barrel carburetor, not even broken in yet. Behind that is a new Jeep 4-speed manual trans. Front manual lock-outs from Warn, front and back bumpers from TKH fabrication. Back bumper holds a full-size spare with matching wheel, and high-lift jack.
Interior is awesome, complete with bucket seats from Black Mountain with matching Black Mountain removable back seat. Front cab has black carpet, rear bed is freshly painted with almost zero scratches (my dog rides in it when I take him to the park, so there may be a small one somewhere). Paint is a 9 out of 10, there are a few very small chips that were a product of the restoration but it looks fantastic. This Jeep is ready to be a daily driver, or a weekend warrior. I have barely even had time to enjoy it after we recently acquired a new tour bus project we just started in the shop, and my office is pretty pissed at me for putting this up for sale (they all love it too).
This is hands down one of the nicest Scramblers out there, and owning it is going to be a LOT of fun for someone. I have bought and sold over 45 cars, this one is one of my favorites. There just isn't that many of these out there, and this one is the cleanest one you will find.
What I would do to this if I kept it:
I would delete the carburetor in favor of the Mopar fuel injection, it would get the horsepower up to 200 pretty consistently. While I wouldn't really wheel this thing hard if someone wanted to I would buy a winch on a receiver hitch to use for the fun spots, both the front and back bumpers have receivers. I am installing a factory Jeep steering wheel back in it and ditching the Grant, I'm not a huge fan of the Grant steering wheels. I had planned on getting a hard top for it as well, and having the back set up for sleeping and camping out of it since I like taking trips out in to national parks, etc all the time. Outside of that, the Jeep is exactly where I wanted it to end up. It will be handed off looking like a new car, she's in moth balls at my warehouse where I store all of my classic vehicles. I am taking her out today for a little tan maintenance before I let her go. :)

Feel free to message me with any specific questions or photo requests, I will try to get as many pics as possible up today to make sure you can see just how nice this is.

CEO Sergio Marchionne curses FCA spokesman for emissions cheating denial

Tue, May 15 2018

WASHINGTON — Fiat Chrysler Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne reprimanded the company's top U.S. spokesman for issuing press releases about Fiat's vehicle emissions practices days after Volkswagen's disclosure in September 2015 that the German automaker had used illegal software to evade emissions tests, documents released Monday show. Lawyers suing Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in a securities case filed excerpts of an email from Marchionne to Gualberto Ranieri, then the company's U.S. spokesman, in a filing in federal court in New York criticizing him for saying that the company does not use defeat devices. "Are you out of your goddam mind?" Marchionne wrote in an email on Sept. 22, 2015, adding that Ranieri should be fired and calling his actions "utterly stupid and unconscionable." The company said in a statement on Monday it was "understandable that our CEO would have a forceful response to any employee who would opine on such a significant and complex matter, without the matter having been fully reviewed through its appropriate channels." The statement added that Ranieri's comments came just days after VW's emissions issue became public "and before a comprehensive internal review and discussions with component suppliers was possible." Fiat Chrysler was sued in 2015 along with Marchionne and other executives over claims it defrauded shareholders by overstating its ability to comply with vehicle safety laws. An amended version of the complaint filed in 2017 added claims about its compliance with emissions laws. The shareholders accused the defendants of inflating Fiat Chrysler's share price by hundreds of millions of dollars from October 2014 to October 2015 by downplaying safety concerns. They said the shortcomings materialized in 2015 when the automaker was fined $175 million by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and took a roughly $670 million charge for recalls. Plaintiffs filed the excerpts seeking approval to take up to 40 additional depositions, including Marchionne's. The U.S. Justice Department sued Fiat Chrysler in May 2017, accusing it of illegally using software to bypass emission controls in 104,000 diesel vehicles sold since 2014. Fiat Chrysler has held numerous rounds of settlement talks with the Justice Department and California Air Resources Board to settle the civil suit, including talks as recently as earlier this month. It faces a separate criminal probe into the matter.

Win a car while supporting a charity this holiday season

Thu, Dec 9 2021

Autoblog may receive a share from purchases made via links on this page. Pricing and availability are subject to change. No donation or payment necessary to enter or win this sweepstakes. See official rules on Omaze.  The leaves have fallen, there is a crispness to the air and there have already been multiple forecasts of snow, which can only mean one thing: We're coming up on Christmas. While you've been busy thinking about what kind of gifts you're going to give your loved ones, we here at Autoblog have been deciding which dream car we'd like to see in our driveway on Christmas morning. A car for Christmas does seem a bit extreme and expensive, but thanks to these Omaze sweepstakes, it doesn't have to break the bank. Here are the current sweepstakes we'd like to win this holiday season. Win a DeLorean DMC-12 - Enter at Omaze James Riswick, West Coast Editor: Let me be clear, the DeLorean is a pretty terrible car. Its speedometer doesn't even go up to the fabled 88 mph. Seriously, look at the pictures: tops out at 85. Also, who services a DeLorean? And how much would it cost to maintain one? $AlloftheMoney or just $MostoftheMoney? So owning it could be a total headache, but at least by winning one through Omaze, you'd be relieved of the financial burden of buying one in the first place. You'd also get the chance to own one of the most iconic cars of all time, one that transcends car enthusiasm and is instantly recognizable by everyone as the "Back to the Future" car. Plus, "everyone" doesn't know that the DeLorean was actually a pretty terrible car. So, I already own James Bond's car from 1995, why not Doc Brown's from 1985? Win a 2021 Bentley Bentayga V8 - Enter at Omaze Eddie Sabatini, Production Manager: Why am I choosing a +$200K Bentley SUV? Because even if I could afford one I'd never be able to wrap my head around spending money on one. So why not try to win one by donating what I can afford to a good cause? I first saw the Bentley Bentayga up close and personal at the Frankfurt Motor Show (I forget which year but I'll never forget this SUV). And although it looks like the Bentayga Omaze is offering up doesn't have the opulent tailgate setup I fell in love with when I saw it in Frankfurt, I'd still enter to win. Win a 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda - Enter at Omaze Byron Hurd, Editor: Few automotive marketing efforts stick out in my head more than the Mercedes-Benz holiday spots and magazine placements.
