Up for auction is my 1981 Jeep CJ7. I have owned this Jeep for 21 years and I have had many great experiences with it. For the first ten years it was my daily driver but then I retired it to a farmers field for a few years when I started to covet things like heat, protection from the elements and overall reliability. After about three years I started to miss the Jeep so I bought a fiberglass body because the original steel tub was so badly rusted and so started the rebuilding process. After tearing it down I had the frame sandblasted and I welding in new crossbraces and the mounting hardware for the new body. I painted it with black farm implement paint that has really held up nicely and looks nice. The suspension was replaced with a 2 1/2 inch lift. The engine was still strong as I had replaced it with a crate factory rebuild about 15,000 miles before parking it but I gave it a new intake, Holley carb, Hooker headers and an aluminum valve cover. The wiring harness, all the guages and lights were all replaced but I have not been able to get the gas guage to work. I suspect I recieved a faulty new part somewhere between the sending unit and the gauge. I kept the original color, the paint code is OK, really, OK is the paint code. The exhaust is stainless steel the whole way and all the fuel lines, brake lines and hoses were replaced. I still have a Best Top soft top and doors that will go with the Jeep in the sale but I never put them back on since it has lived in my garage and I only take it out in the summer anyway. Whoever buys it can install them if they wish.
Those of you that know about Jeeps don't need to read any further but those that may be buying their first should know. This vehicle does not have all the safety items that a modern car has. It is uncomfortable on long rides. It is loud and uses a lot of gas. It doesn't have heat, a radio, interior lights, storage compartments or even a rear seat. You will undoubtedly have to tinker with it and after tinkering with this one for 20 years it still marks its spot with a few drops of oil in the garage. It is, however, one of the funnest things you could ever drive. Your male friends will ask you if you want to sell it all the time and your female friends will want to go for a ride. Nearly every Jeep owner that passes you on the road will give you the Jeep wave like it is a fraternity and old dudes will go into long stories about the Jeep they used to own and wish they never got rid of.
So, if you are interested happy bidding. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

Gilles defends 2014 Jeep Cherokee design as "very contemporary"
Thu, 28 Feb 2013Following the forced-hand introduction of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, there has definitely been a mix of responses revolving around everything from its design to the return of the legendary nameplate. As evidence of this, just check out the 1,000+ comments in our article last week and some of the many opinions that were voiced. Following this not-too-warm reception, Ward's Auto had a chance to talk to Chrysler designer chief - and SRT president - Ralph Gilles, who shed a little more light on the styling direction of the new Cherokee.
Rather than looking to previous models for inspiration, Gilles says that the Cherokee has been designed to be more contemporary, with Mark Allen, head of Jeep design, adding that a main goal was to make sure the design still looks modern five years from now. Interestingly, Gilles does point out that one of the design elements incorporated on the new Cherokee that pays homage to past Jeeps is the sharply downward angle for the leading edge of the beltline, which he notes is meant to mimic the look of the old YJ and TJ Wrangler models fitted with half doors. Of course, the squared-off wheel openings - a signature Jeep cue - are still used.
This is probably a design that will need to be seen on the street in actual daylight to properly assess, but in the meantime, we'll bring you full images and impressions when the Cherokee debuts at next month's New York Auto Show.

Rumor has it the new Grand Wagoneer has been cancelled, but we're not so sure
Wed, Nov 30 2016This just doesn't seem to add up. Autoline Daily is reporting that plans for a new top Jeep, a reimagined Grand Wagoneer to sit above the Grand Cherokee, have been scrapped. The info comes from Auto Forecast Solutions, an industry analyst company. The Grand Wagoneer was expected to use a stretched version of the next Grand Cherokee's platform, but it reportedly won't accept the larger vehicle. The report implies that the next Grand Cherokee will use a version of the current Grand Cherokee's unibody platform, which is about what we expected. The thing is, the current Grand Cherokee shares its platform with the (longer) Dodge Durango, as well as Mercedes-Benz's GLE and GLS SUVs (remember the DaimlerChrysler days?). It's possible the Wagoneer was supposed to be wider as well as longer, and that the Durango's stretch just wasn't enough, but it seems odd that this is just now coming to light. We have already seen sketches of the new Grand Wagoneer, purported to have leaked out of an FCA dealer meeting. Jeep's CEO has discussed the (high) price the new utility would command. It just seems like a lot of thought went into the vehicle already, thought that wouldn't be put forward if someone hadn't looked into the feasibility of actually building it. The report (the one that says the thing has been cancelled) also says FCA might regroup and build the GW as a body-on-frame SUV on the Ram 1500 platform. That also seems unlikely, since this is supposed to be a luxurious, refined vehicle that's nicer than the Grand Cherokee. It would be tough to accomplish all of that with a ladder frame underneath, and it's just not the way the industry is going, let alone the Jeep brand. We'll keep an eye on this one.
