1981 Jeep Cj5 Laredo Classic Original Stock 92k Copper 4spd 6cyl No Reserve! on 2040-cars
Boulder, Colorado, United States
No Reserve Auction!! 1981 Jeep CJ5 LAREDO This Jeep CJ5 is a beautiful original classic gets a lot of comments everywhere I go to. I got it from one of my brothers medical colleagues who purchased it from his mother 12 years ago. He rarely drove it and it sat on his ranch in his barn for years (he drove it less then 2k miles total). Last week, I drove it to Denver 2x, once to Central City and to the mountains yesterday to take photos of it for this auction. I had 3 people comment on it yesterday when I pulled up into Starbucks. The Jeep starts right up, drives smooth and doesn't have any vibrations, shimmy or problems keeping up with traffic in town, on the highway or in the mountains. Engine: 258 4.2L 6cylinder motor that runs great, is very peppy and runs great. Overall the motor runs great, I don't notice any leaks on the ground after driving and it does not smoke. The Valve cover gasket has the classic leak and will need to be replaced sometime. Transmission/Transfer Case: 4spd T176 Manual Transmission that shifts perfect, no play in the transmission and no grinding or crunching. The Clutch is very tight, responsive and does not slip. The transfer case shifts easily in and out of 4x4. It is a Dana 300. Drivetrain/suspension: The Jeep drives excellent and has that soft tight stock suspension. There aren't any loud clunks or noises, it is very smooth. The drivetrain and suspension are completely stock. The power steering is super sensitive and the brakes stop the jeep easily. Interior Controls/Switches: Everything in the interior works including the gauges, speedometer, odometer, wipers and blinkers. The horn, cig lighter and heater do not work(I will check the fuses) the radio powers up but there is no sound. The Tilt Steering makes it easier to get in and out. Paint/Body/Rust: The paint is Copper Brown Metallic with Laredo Striping. It is original paint that looks great and super reflective, shows a lot of luster and is shiny. The front drivers fender was replaced along with the windshield frame at one point. The front clip fenders have sand chips. The body has 2 small areas of rust in the rear of the tub, a bit of surface rust on the side of the passenger front fender and on the interior under the drivers retractable seat belt(it is thru under it). Overall very clean, view photos and ask a question to see more pictures from photobucket.com, I have approx 100 more photos to share. Interior: The interior is beautiful, the nutmeg seats are in great condition along with the carpets. The seats are clean and only the drivers seat has seem separations. The seats are discolored a bit from sitting in the sun and so are the tops of the rear wheel well carpets but overall the seats, dash and interior is in great condition. The passenger visor is broken. The interior paint is in excellent condition. The dash pad is solid except on the corners (view photos). Beautiful color combination. Bestop Soft top and Doors: The nutmeg bestop soft top is in great condition with clear windows and no significant rips or tears. There looks to be a couple spots that were repaired but overall the top and doors are in excellent shape. All zippers work with ease and the top seals to prevent leakage in the elements. Tires/Wheels: This are the original 15x8 Chrome Jeep wagon wheels with Center Caps. The Chrome is original and the clear coat has never been removed on them. The spare wheel does show some clear coat peeling in places however the other 4 do not. The spare tire looks to be original and is dry rotting on the side wall. The tires have a couple years life remaining on them, I'd say 65-70% left. Additional Photos: Ask a questions and I will provide a link to view more photos of the Jeep at photobucket. eBay will no longer allow seller to post a clickable links on our auctions. Overall: This is a beautiful and Rare CJ5 Laredo Jeep in Copper. It is ready to go and will make a great daily driver, weekend warrior, summer adventurer or an addition to your collection. The CJ5 is used and 33 years old, so it may have blemishes I didn't capture on my camera or missed. I do my best to illustrate the condition, I may have missed something so be sure to ask all questions you have prior to bidding or winning the Jeep. The Jeep is being sold as is, where is, without warranty or guarantees. I am not required for your state emission or safety inspections including Colorado. Updated 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee ace same controversial moose test it failed in 2012 [w/video]
Thu, 02 Jan 2014Some background: one of the more scandalous international incidents of he-said/he-said from 2012 was when Swedish magazine Teknikens Varld put the Jeep Grand Cherokee through its "moose (or elk) test" and reported that the SUV nearly rolled over. That lead to a whole lot of accusations and rebuttals: more than one website and Chrysler's own blog reported that the Jeep was overloaded; Chrysler said Teknikens printed the magazine then let Chrysler respond, Teknikens answered all of the charges in a lengthy post and said Chrysler was given a chance to comment before it went to print; when Chrysler sent investigators to oversee the test and the Jeep didn't go up on two wheels as it did in the first test, furthermore all four wheels stayed on the ground when Auto Motor und Sport tested a Grand Cherokee in the same way.
Teknikens then re-ran the test with a new vehicle and said it's been doing this test since the 1970s, uses the loading information that Chrysler provides to the Swedish motor authority and the previous Grand Cherokee passed with no problem. In the second test, the Jeep failed again, then it gave Chrysler engineers access to the car's electronics and ran the test again. In that second round the Grand Cherokee didn't repeat the lurid two-wheel action, but in eleven runs it blew out front left tire seven times. Chrysler still objects to the results of all of those tests and maintains that vehicle was safe.
The 2014 Grand Cherokee was given its shot at the gauntlet in the latest round of moose tests, and Teknikens Varld reports that it passed without any problem at all, its stability control working perfectly, controlling motion at low speeds and all the way up to 44.1 miles per hour. You can watch the video of the new test and read the press release from the magazine on the updated Grand Cherokee below.
Dodge and Jeep recalling 895k SUVs for possibility of headliner fires
Fri, 11 Jul 2014Dodge and Jeep are announcing recalls of a total of 895,000 Durango and Grand Cherokee models worldwide from the 2011 through 2014 model years. There's a possibility that the wiring in the sun visor can short circuit and cause a fire. It specifically affects vehicles built between January 5, 2010, and December 11, 2013, and there are approximately 651,000 of them in the US, 45,700 in Canada, 23,000 in Mexico and 175,000 outside of North America.
Screws that fasten the sunvisor to the headliner may pierce wires in the visor, if the part has been removed or serviced, potentially causing a fire risk. If the wires short circuit, they could overheat and potentially combust. The automakers report three injuries caused by this defect, and according to the investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "there may be a total of 52 unique fire incidents."
To fix the problem, Dodge and Jeep will inspect the vehicles for suspect wiring, and all of the models, whether damaged or not, will get a new sun visor spacer with a wire guide to stop the possibility of short circuits. According to the automakers' announcement, "this condition is not present in vehicles which have not had the headliner or vanity mirror serviced." They will notify affected owners, and repairs will begin in August.
2018 Jeep Wrangler will have an aluminum hood and doors, leaked memo says
Fri, Sep 16 2016Earlier this year, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne revealed that 2018 Jeep Wrangler would feature a heavy dose of aluminum, though he didn't specify how. Now, JL Wrangler Forums says the Wrangler will use the material for the hood and the doors, citing an internal bulletin from aluminum supplier Alcoa. According to the forum, the company says the next-gen Wrangler will utilize Aloca's C6A1 (an internal name) high form alloy. The SUV will also get 6022 and A951 from Alcoa that will be used on the SUV's front and rear doors, as well as for the hood. Alcoa's C6A1 is the company's new high form alloy, while its 6022 alloy sheet can be found on things like a car's hood, door, or closure panels. Alcoa's A951 is the company's pre-treatment aluminum sheet bonding technology that it uses on automobiles. "A team in the Farmington Hills (Michigan, USA) Aerospace and Automotive Products group is leading a new profitable growth opportunity with the 2018 Jeep Wrangler program. The next generation Jeep becomes the first to utilize our C6A1 high form alloy; we are currently the only supplier of this high form product. Alcoa will also supply 6022 and A951, including front and rear door inners, hood outer and inner." As Marchionne pointed out earlier this year, the 2018 Wrangler won't be made entirely out of aluminum. So Alcoa's contribution to the upcoming SUV's doors and hood could be the only components that use the lightweight metal – or Jeep could be using another aluminum supplier for other parts. Large changes lie ahead for the 2018 Wrangler, which include a pickup version, new engines, and aluminum. But we do know that the next Wrangler is that it will be built in Toledo, OH, as FCA announced plans to spend $1.05 billion to retool the Wrangler factory, while also adding another site in Illinois earlier this year.
