1978 Jeep Cj7 Hardtop on 2040-cars
San Antonio, Texas, United States
1978 Jeep project, it started out as a rusted out 78, I had an 84 CJ7 so most of the tub, rollbar, dash are retrofitted, the main reason is the 84 body from the doors back is cleaner and had 3 point belts and rear seat. This vehicle is not perfect, it has been driven for over a year but im running out of driveway space. It has a hardtop and doors that is painted silver but the paint doesnt match the jeep itself but pretty close, they were painted later. I also have the factory Jeep Soft top in great condition all windows are clear not yellow. It has a 304 V8 with a 3sp transmission 84 wide axles. The gas tanks on the rear are black not red.
Video of it running http://youtu.be/NdhesiqAelg Video of first test drive before all the upgrades http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ploXOPYxZEc New parts front bumper/Rear bumper Steering box/gear Steering linkage (all) Radiator air cleaner exhaust from headers back (flowmaster) water pump brake booster master cylinder clutch master cylinder clutch slave cylinder clutch lines brake lines Fuel tank Fuel sender body mounts (no lift) headlights windshield frame windshield mirrors tail lights marker lights flywheel clutch electric cooling fan and thermostat taylor wires horns speedometer glove compartment fender flares KC lights Tachometer Stereo, Kenwood with 6 channel amp 2- 5inch dash speakers, 2- 6x9 speakers in enclosures, 10" sub in center console (amp is mounted under center console) 700W but extremely Loud carpet drivers, passenger and rear seats Center console shift knobs Falken 32x10.50 tires (5) Ion wheels (5) 5 gal. fuel tank, right side fuel tank is actually a tool box filled with tools highlift jack running board/sliders roll bar cover car cover (covers windshield and interior when top isnt on) The Bad - Gas guage, temp guage, oil pressure guage doesnt work, (had stereo installed think they nocked off the wires) Hood has a crease in it from forgetting to latch it down, not bad but noticable. Needs a 4bbl intake or original 1bbl carb put back on, has 4bbl with a 4 to 1 bbl plate to work on the stock intake but still runs strong, have pulled the front tires off the ground on a hill. KC lights on the front bumper are not wired but switch is instlled. The front blinker lights come on with the brake lights but it might have something to do with the wiring harness to tow with. IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT ANYTHING LET ME KNOW, I WILL ANSWER QUESTIONS AND TAKE PICS IF NEEDED. |

2017 Jeep Compass is finally a compact crossover worthy of its badge
Thu, Nov 17 2016Jeep finally thinks it has a Compass that points true north. When the compact crossover first debuted alongside the Patriot for the 2007 model year, it was all wrong. The original Compass didn't look like a Jeep, didn't have any off-road credibility, and wasn't remotely fun to drive. It was, by all accounts, a failure. A mid-cycle refresh helped matters in 2011, and the addition of a six-speed automatic to replace the unloved CVT made 2014 and later models the best of the breed. Until now, that is. View 14 Photos There's a brand-new Jeep Compass for 2017, and it looks to put Jeep's compact crossover contender back on track. The new Compass looks a lot like a shrunken Grand Cherokee, which is no bad thing. A slotted grille leads the way, and the bulging fenders and slowly rising bodysides add visual interest to the two-box shape. An optional dual-pane sunroof should help keep the cabin from feeling too confining, though the Compass lacks any sort of removable top system like that of its smaller sibling, the Renegade. One engine will be available in the United States. The 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder engine offers 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. That's 8 more ponies and 10 more lb-ft than before. Buyers can choose from three transmission options, starting with a six-speed manual on either 4x2 or 4x4 versions. Front-wheel-drive Compass models get a six-speed auto option, while 4x4 models get a nine-speed. Both the Jeep Active Drive and Jeep Active Drive Low – the latter system features a crawl ratio – can send 100 percent of the engine's available torque to whichever individual wheel has the most traction. A Trailhawk model (above in red) is a new addition to the Compass line, and it comes with unique fascias and a small suspension lift that improve its off-road cred with a 30-degree approach angle, 24-degree breakover angle, and 34-degree departure angle. Trailhawk models get Hill Descent Control and a Rock Mode added to the Selec-Terrain system, which, coupled with a 20:1 crawl ratio, should make the Trail Rated Compass the most capable vehicle in its class. As you would expect, the Compass is a unibody. That should make it pretty comfortable on the road, too, and its Koni frequency damping struts both front and rear ought to make it ride pretty well. Inside, there are three different center LCD screen sizes, depending on trim. Base models get a 5.0-inch unit, with larger 7.0- and 8.4-inch units optional.
Georgia judge slashes verdict to $40M in Jeep fire case
Wed, Jul 29 2015A judge in Georgia has drastically reduced the damages that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will have to pay to the family of Remington Walden, who a court said died as a result of the unsafe design of one of its vehicles. While the jury originally awarded the family $150 million at FCA's expense, Judge J. Kevin Chason cut that amount to $40 million, the Detroit News reported. The automaker may still appeal the verdict. The case dates to March 2012, when a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee in which four-year-old Walden was riding was rear-ended by another vehicle. Due to what the jury ruled was an unsafe fuel tank, a fire erupted, and Walden died in the fire. The family's lawyers successfully argued that the automaker knew there was a problem and didn't take sufficient action to address the issue, while FCA countered that its vehicles met the applicable safety standards when they were built. The jury found FCA 99 percent responsible for the fire and Walden's death, reserving the final one percent for the driver who caused the crash. The court awarded the Waldens $150 million in damages to be paid by the automaker: $120 million for wrongful death, and a further $30 million for pain and suffering. FCA, however, argued that the damages were disproportionate to the incident, noting that the $120 million was 11 times higher and the $30 million four times higher than any comparable awards upheld on appeal in the state. Chason agreed and cut the penalties extensively. The Walden family has reportedly accepted the reduced verdict. But according to the News, company spokesman Michael Palese said, "The reduction in the damage awards does not cure the many errors that tainted this verdict and denied FCA US a fair trial. We are considering our legal options." News Source: The Detroit NewsImage Credit: Jeep Government/Legal Recalls Jeep lawsuit court
FCA issuing software update for 1.4M vehicles to prevent hacking
Fri, Jul 24 2015In the wake of a Jeep Cherokee being hacked remotely while on the road through its Uconnect infotainment system, FCA US is now issuing a software update for 1.4 million vehicles in the United States. Affected customers will receive a USB stick in the mail with the improved version; owners can check this website to see if their cars are affected. A large variety of models with FCA's 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system are affected. They include the 2015 Chrysler 200, 2015 Chrysler 300, 2015 Dodge Charger, and 2015 Dodge Challenger; 2013-2015 Dodge Viper; 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500; 2013-2015 Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 chassis cab; 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Cherokee; and 2014-2015 Dodge Durango. According to FCA in its announcement, the new software "insulates connected vehicles from remote manipulation." As of July 23, the company also "fully tested and implemented within the cellular network" additional security to prevent access to many of a vehicle's systems. FCA US says that it's conducting this campaign out of an abundance of caution and disputes the notion that there's a defect with these vehicles. Beyond the demonstration of the hack in the Cherokee, the automaker says that it's unaware of any other reports of these attacks actually happening. Related Video: Statement: Software Update July 24, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is conducting a voluntary safety recall to update software in approximately 1,400,000 U.S. vehicles equipped with certain radios. The recall aligns with an ongoing software distribution that insulates connected vehicles from remote manipulation, which, if unauthorized, constitutes criminal action. Further, FCA US has applied network-level security measures to prevent the type of remote manipulation demonstrated in a recent media report. These measures – which required no customer or dealer actions – block remote access to certain vehicle systems and were fully tested and implemented within the cellular network on July 23, 2015. The Company is unaware of any injuries related to software exploitation, nor is it aware of any related complaints, warranty claims or accidents – independent of the media demonstration.
