Up for auction is a very nice just built with the following NEW products. 4 inch Rough Country suspension with N20 shocks, 1 inch body lift along 1.25 boomerang shackles. New 15 inch pro comp wheels. Brand new wiring harness from front to back with new fuse block. Jeep was sanded down to bare metal all rust repaired which was mostly on driver rocker with new sheet metal then primed and painted with Monsta -Liner white, this is great stuff for off road use it will not scratch and fade and looks good. The tub had rust on both driver and passenger floor boards which is very common for jeeps of these years both spots were about 6x8 it was cut out and also replaced with new sheet metal which then was then rhino lined in black. New fuel hoses from front to rear were replaced including main and return, fuel tank was sent out to be cleaned at radiator shop. Brakes were checked and I did nothing to them cause it looks that previous owner did redo the whole system it has front disk and rear drums. Brand new windshield frame and new windshield along with new seals. Fenders were cut to simulate a flat fender look, it looks really nice not some whack job. this unit has a tailgate option from factory which is not to common on cj5. Frame was sanded and painted with rust protection paint. Transmission has one inch drop bracket, it was installed to rid of vibration due to drivetrain alignment. Rod ends were replaced when drop pitman arm was installed. The following items are included in the sale and NOT installed new bikini top, New 1 inch shackles, New voltmeter gauge from omnix. New inner glove box. Stock oem springs and original steel wheels with 80 percent tread. It starts and runs great shifts fine and 4wd works as is should. This was a two owner stock jeep when I acquired it.

Now the bad, the jeep will be sold with only one seat for the drivers side which is in real good condition the seats I used to build were master craft style which I removed to install in another project. risers and sliders are installed you will need ONE seat for passenger 125.00 new on line. It has no rear bench seat 115.00 on line. Heater switch not installed used hole on dash for off road lights I did not want to cut dash and have no need for heater. Tires are 33x 12.5 they are 25-30% tread left they were used to mock up suspension and are good for aprox 3k miles 35 inch tires will fit without any problem. I build jeeps as a hobby and being doing so since I was a kid and don't do this as a business. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING STATMENT CAREFULLY....  This is not a frame off restoration collector piece and not priced as such. This is an extremely functional, well built good looking unit ready for the trails or cruising around town. I have driven the jeep only 50 miles since build and suggest that all suspension bolts be checked after another 500 miles of use The reason of sale is I need the space cause I acquired another unexpected project and I already have another jeep. Please ask questions and request specific pics you may want 500 deposit within 48 hours thank you

Junkyard Gem: 1983 Jeep DJ-5L Mail Dispatcher

Wed, Jul 26 2017

When it comes to putting mail in boxes, a simple and reliable vehicle works best. Say, a zero-frills steel box on wheels, with right-hand-drive, a fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine, no-hassle automatic transmission, sliding doors, and a big mail-sorting table instead of a passenger seat. That's what the AM General Mail Dispatcher DJ-5 was all about, and these bouncy little trucks were everywhere for decades. Here's a late-production example, still in USPS colors, spotted in a Denver-area self-service wrecking yard. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stayed this courier from the swift completion of its appointed rounds. Note the "Sonic Eagle" USPS logos on the doors; this became the official USPS logo in 1993, nearly a decade after the final Jeep DJ-5s were built. Plenty of these trucks stayed in service into our current century, and a few are still being used by private mail-delivery contractors in rural areas. During the American Motors era of Jeep DJ production (1970 through 1984), a bewildering assortment of engines went into postal Jeeps. This is a 2.5-liter GM Iron Duke four-cylinder; before that, DJ-5s came with Audi power (more or less the same engine used in the Porsche 924, in fact), AMC straight-sixes, and Chevy Nova four-cylinders. The 1984 DJ-5Ms ran the AMC 2.5-liter four-cylinder. The earliest DJs were equipped with three-speed manual transmissions, but the American Motors-built postal-delivery versions all had automatic transmissions. This one has a three-speed Chrysler Torqueflite A904, a weird engine/transmission combination that should help you stump your friends during car-trivia debates. Check out the ultra-bare-bones heater/ventilation controls! These trucks were badged as AM Generals, not Jeeps (I couldn't find a single Jeep label anywhere on this one), just like the original HMMWV. However, you'd have to be a real hair-splitter to refer to this as an AM General DJ-5 instead of just Mail Jeep or Jeep DJ-5. Next time you complain about your subcompact rental car lacking driver-comfort features, consider this vehicle. I had a few high-school friends who owned DJ-5s, back in the early 1980s when they were available for a couple hundred bucks at government-surplus auctions. The first thing civilian DJ-5 owners always did was tear out the mail-sorting table and replace it with a random junkyard bucket seat (or an aluminum lawn chair). These trucks were very noisy, very bouncy, and very slow, but they always ran.

Jeep 'trailer hitch' recall repair rates lag amidst reports of new death

Sat, Jan 10 2015

The problem with exploding fuel tanks in the 1993-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty in some rear collisions continues to be a problem for FCA US, formerly Chrysler. The campaign to fix the utility vehicles was first announced in June 2013 after 51 claimed fatalities, and the fixes reportedly began in January 2014. However, there continue to be new deaths blaming the problem in unrepaired models, according to The Detroit News, citing data from the Center for Auto Safety. The automaker initially refused NHTSA's pressuring to conduct a recall because the models met applicable crash standards when they were manufactured, but eventually, there was a compromise to inspect and fix about 1.56 million Jeeps. With the fuel tank located between the rear axle and bumper, the unusual fix was to install a trailer hitch for extra protection. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration later agreed that the change would provide added safety in lower to medium speed crashes, but not high-speed crashes. The most recent fatality, according to The Detroit News, occurred on a Michigan freeway in November 2014 when a pregnant woman in a 2003 Liberty was rear-ended when traffic slowed. Her Jeep impacted the vehicle in front, rolled over and a fire resulted. The family reportedly plans to file a lawsuit against FCA. At issue has been the rate at which the vehicles are being fixed. In July 2014, the automaker estimated it could have all of the vehicles repaired by March 2015 thanks to additional hitch supplies. But by November, NHTSA claimed that only three percent of the recalled models had been fixed. FCA says it continues to work to notify owners, though. According to Chrysler spokesperson Eric Mayne to Autoblog, "We are processing approximately 1,200 vehicles per day. Every owner who schedules service is receiving service. As of Jan. 8, that total was 193,490." The company has also mailed out over two million notifications to owners, more than the number officially called in. Given the age of these Jeeps, many of them have had multiple owners, and historically, the older a vehicle is, the less likely the recall fixes are to be carried out. FCA is currently creating a video urging people to have the hitch installed to be released soon. Happy 50th birthday, Jeep Wagoneer

Thu, 02 May 2013

The Wagoneer got the SUV on the radar of buyers looking for something capable, comfortable and rugged.
The Jeep Wagoneer was introduced 50 years ago, and it's that vehicle we have to thank for the herds of excellent crossovers and SUVs that make up our current automotive landscape. On a personal level, I have always loved the full-size Jeeps and their crisp Brooks Stevens styling, which aged well over their long tenure on the market. The SJs, as they're known among enthusiasts, were the Wagoneer and its two-door counterpart, the original Cherokee. The Wagoneers had become true luxury vehicles by the end of their run, which stretched form late 1962 as a '63 model all the way to 1991, when they were offered exclusively under the Grand Wagoneer nameplate.
