1976 Jeep Cj7 Cj-7 - Frame Off Resto-mod on 2040-cars

Great classic Jeep for on or off road. Equipped to go anywhere you point it. 1976 was the first year of the CJ-7 and this one has been torn down and re-assembled about 4 years ago with new or refurbished parts. The engine, transmission and transfer case remain factory with some upgrades. The frame and body are rust free and are in excellent shape. This jeep has been driven a good bit since then so there is a few oil leaks, but nothing major. I don't have an accurate mileage, but likely less than 1000 miles per year. There are so many upgrades that I have done, I will probably miss some. Engine - 258 (4.2L) I-6 with Motocraft 2100 2bbl carb and HEI ignition Transmission -- T-18A 4-speed manual with very desirable 6.32:1 granny gear Transfer Case -- Dana 20 Rear Axle -- AMC 20 with Front Axle -- Dana 30 with Lock Right locker & 3.54 gears Steering: New steering gear box, with M.O.R.E. HD steering box mount and brace, HD tie rod & draglink (1 ton ends) flipped to the top of the steering knuckles for clearance, and dropped pitman arm to correct steering geometry. This Jeep does not wander on the road even without steering stabilizers. Suspension -- Springs are 6" YJ springs from Rough Country with custom front long travel shocks. One leaf from each spring pack was removed to lower the Jeep some since the Jeep was higher than desired, but can be reinstalled easily. Wheels/Tires -- The wheels are 15x8 factory Jeep CJ 8-spoke wheels wrapped in 35x12.50R15 BFG Mud Terrain KM tires. The spare is the same, but All-Terrain tire mounted to a heavily reinforced factory spare tire carrier. Body -- Body was stripped and repaired of any rust (rust was minor since the Jeep was originally a Texas Jeep) and sprayed OD Green on the outside and a DIY Dupli Color Bed Armor liner applied to the interior. The roll bar is a "family cage" from a 95 Wrangler and an OR-Fab front cage was welded in to protect the front. The fenders were trimmed to fit factory TJ flares to clear the tires at full compression. The front fenders were trimmed additionally to create the "flat fender" look on the front. The front and rear bumpers are custom fabricated and are extremely heavy duty. The front bumper has provisions for a drum style winch. Smittybilt rock sliders were added for side protection Interior -- Front seats are Smittybilt seats. Driver side seat has damage from me getting in and out, but is repairable. The rear seat is a factory fixed back seat. The rear seat has shoulder harness seat belts due to the "family cage" but the front is only lap belts but has provisions for shoulder harnesses. The dash is a custom fiberglass dash that I designed and fabricated and contains all appropriate gauges along with a Marine radio and speakers. Everything works and there are no lingering issues that need to be addressed. On Mar-18-14 at 07:32:08 PDT, seller added the following information: Great classic Jeep for on or off road. Edit: 3/18 Forgot to mention a few things about the Jeep. The only "issue" with the Jeep is that the release bearing for the clutch is starting to squeak when the clutch is released in neutral. Otherwise, there are no issues preventing it from being driven. Another item I forgot to clarify is that the Jeep does have power steering, but not power brakes. Don't let that fool you though. The front brakes are disc and the rear are the large 1" drums. With the stainless steel brake hoses, it is a very firm pedal and it may take a little more foot pressure, but it will stop on a dime if needed. This Jeep is also for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early. Buyer is responsible for any and all applicable shipping charges and or any taxes that are required. Daily Driver: 2015 Jeep Renegade Sport 4x4
Fri, Jul 10 2015Daily Driver videos are micro-reviews of vehicles in the Autoblog test fleet, reviewed by the staffers who drive them every day. Today's Daily Driver features the 2015 Jeep Renegade Sport 4x4, reviewed by Adam Morath. Something to note: The vehicle tested here is a pre-production unit, and we had some issues with the MySky removable roof system. (Associate editor Brandon Turkus mentioned these problems in his Quick Spin.) FCA confirms that improvements were made for production-spec cars. You can watch the video above or read a transcript below. Watch more Autoblog videos at /videos. [00:00:00] Hey, this is Adam Morath with another Daily Driver. Today, we're in the 2015 Jeep Renegade and I'm excited to be driving this in a Sport trim level. That's the lowest trim that they offer it in. I say I'm excited, because often we get the cars to totally spec-ed out to the max, the automaker trying to show off what they can do with the car but it doesn't always give you a realistic view of how most customers are going to spec the car, and I think with the Renegade being the entry-level model for Jeep now [00:00:30] replacing the outgoing Patriot and Compass, it makes sense to drive this in the Sport trim. We do have it in 4x4, comes in at just around $23,000. It's powered by a turbocharged 1.4 liter inline 4 and we've got it, made it to the 6-speed manual transmission, which is pretty cool. Again you can see FCA's fingerprints on this car. If they wanted to do well in Europe, of course you've got to offer it with a manual and that's nice for consumers here to have that choice of having a stick shift in the Jeep again. [00:01:00] That's kind of fun. It produces 160-horsepower, 184 pound-feet of torque. It's got a little pack to it. I wouldn't call it sporty but it's enough for a vehicle of this size. This is a pretty basic version of the renegade. The only options we have on it are the AC, the roof rails, 4-wheel drive, which is a must here in Michigan and then these MySky roof panels, which I'll get to in a minute, but that takes us from a base price of $18,000, the cheapest you'll be able to get into a Renegade for [00:01:30] up to about $23,700, which is where we're at. Yes, these are MySky roof panels. It's a totally new feature on the Renegade that Jeep is trying out and I think it's pretty cool. It's like a tee top system, except the panels aren't side by side. You have one in the front and one in the back.
FCA facing class-action lawsuit over Grand Cherokee shifters
Fri, Jun 24 2016Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is now facing a multi-million-dollar class-action lawsuit over the recalled shifter design in the 2014 and 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the 2012 to 2014 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300. Grand Cherokee owners, galvanized by Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin's fatal accident, filed the suit. According to The Wall Street Journal, the owners allege that FCA concealed the shifter's problems. On top of restitution, the class action suit is demanding a court order force FCA to issue a do-not-drive warning to owners of affected vehicles until it fixes the problem. FCA started distributing a software fix to dealers last week – according to the WSJ, the update will add more warnings about the shifter's position and will automatically kick the vehicle into park if the driver steps out. FCA's shifter problems have been bubbling under the surface as part of the company's recall issues. The US government dinged FCA with a $105 million fine last year for its recall practices (or lack thereof) last year, but things have exploded this week after Yelchin's death. The 27-year-old, best known for playing Ensign Pavel Chekov in the rebooted Star Trek film series, was killed after his 2015 Grand Cherokee rolled down his driveway and pinned the actor against a security gate. According to Jeep CEO Mike Manley, the company will dispatch engineers to analyze Yelchin's vehicle. Related Video:
SEMA crowns Mustang, FR-S as this year's hottest cars in the building
Wed, 31 Oct 2012After wrapping up the first day of the 2012 SEMA Show, organizers handed out awards for some of the trendiest vehicles on display. Since the whole point of SEMA is to show off new products available in the aftermarket world for use in cars, trucks and SUVs, each year, the show distinguishes the most popular vehicle in various segments. Not surprisingly, this year's Hottest Car and Hottest Sport Compact are the Ford Mustang and Scion FR-S, respectively, while the Ford F-Series brought home the Hottest Truck and the Jeep Wrangler was named the Hottest 4x4-SUV.
More than 2,000 companies are at this year's show, and the display booths represents a "vote" for each car to determing the trendiest vehicles in each of the four categories. It isn't clear if these awards also take cars brought by OEMs into account, but the Mustang and FR-S were definitely well represented by both OEM and aftermarket show versions.
As usual, the OEMs showed up in force at the this year's SEMA Show exhibiting a variety of cars ranging from production-intent cars like the beastly Ford Mustang Cobra Jet to much flashier rides like Scion's Carbon Stealth FR-S.
