I have a 1966 Kaiser Jeep CJ5 that has been restored! I bought this jeep in May of this year from an old man who owned it for 23 years, and HE knew the original owner. It was purchased at Barrington Jeep in downtown Columbus, GA. I has been kept here in Columbus its entire life. It only has 59k original miles! He took VERY good care of it mechanically so there was little to do in regards to that. He only used it as a hunting vehicle so he never did any cosmetic repairs. The day I bought it, I drove it home nearly 25 miles away and started taking it apart. I stripped it down. There was little rust. The biggest areas of rust were below the doors (the usual places). The floors were solid. After I stripped it I sent it to the paint shop. They cut out the rust areas and welded in new pieces. They stripped it to bare metal and applied a basecoat/clearcoat paint job to the original factory color. . .Spruce Tip Green! It looks AMAZING! This is a VERY NICE driver quality paint job. While it was in the paint shop I started refurbishing any old parts that could be saved and ordered new parts for the one's that couldn't be. After getting it back, I installed all the new parts, took the exterior components of the engine apart and painted or replaced what needed to be. As you can see, it looks GREAT! I even put on new original style decals on the valve covers.

This Jeep came from the factory with the super tough Buick Dauntless V-6 engine. It runs great and has plenty of power. You can't imagine how powerful this thing is!  The engine does not smoke and is in great condition. The 3 speed transmission shifts great and the clutch is strong. All the lights and gauges work and so does the heater. I can't list all the items that were replaced because it would just take too long. Make no mistake, this Jeep is NICE! I had the floor sprayed with bedliner and it looks great too! I put this Jeep back to original as closely as I could! I even stenciled the original "4 Wheel Drive" emblem on the tailgate just like from the factory.

The 4 wheel drive works great and shifts in and out of gear smoothly and with ease.

I have a ton of pictures from the day I bought it, all through the restoration process and of course the finished product. Pictures do not do this Jeep justice though! I have included 2 pictures of what it looked like the day I bought it. Most of what you see is surface rust. The frame is in great condition and does not have any rot or decay. Its rock solid!

I do have the original metal hardtop and doors that will go with it. They have not been restored yet, but just need to be stripped down, prepped and painted. All Glass is good!

The 4 tires on the Jeep are in great condition and have plenty of tread. I would say they have at least 85% left and have no signs of dry rot. They ride smooth with no shake or bounce

I've driven this JEEP to work 20 miles away several times lately and it drives GREAT! I easily go 65-70 mph and it holds the road great. No play in the steering and it doesn't bounce you all over the place. It drives much nicer and handles much better than you can imagine!  I have probably put about 300 miles on it since the restoration and would feel comfortable driving it just about anywhere.

Please feel free to call me at 706-325-4360 if you have any questions.   I reserve the right to end the auction early unless the reserve has been met, as I do have it for sale locally

Toledo continues fight for Jeep Wrangler production, despite mayor's death

Thu, Feb 19 2015

Where will the next-generation Jeep Wrangler be built? That's an open question, but it's one that the city of Toledo, OH desperately wants to be the answer to. The city suffered a major blow, though, with the death of Mayor Michael Collins earlier this month. Collins had been the city's biggest champion during talks with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, before suffering a fatal heart attack on Feb. 6. But Collins' tragic death isn't dampening the city's desire to carry on as the home of the Wrangler. "The mayor's passing is tragic. But on Monday, when I came to work, I knew exactly what I needed to do and exactly what needed to be done," the city's director of development, Matt Sapara, told the Detroit Free Press. According to the Freep, Sapara said Toledo and the state of Ohio have delivered an outline of a development plan that would give FCA the ability to buy an extra 100 acres to expand the factory. This is to help accommodate FCA's targeted output of 300,000 to 350,000 next-generation Wranglers, up from the 240,000 the factory can make now. "Our target in the proposal is to provide a way to increase the production capacity to a number that allows Fiat Chrysler to meet its business model," Sapara told the Freep, adding that the land could be available later this summer. FCA, meanwhile, has shown a somewhat ambivalent attitude towards Toledo production, with CEO Sergio Marchionne openly discussing the pros and cons of continuing to build the Wrangler south of the Michigan border. "We are going to take a very hard look at this without ignoring what these guys have done," Marchionne told the Free Press at last month's Detroit Auto Show, adding that he'd like to keep production there, provided the cost of retooling is comparable to relocating to another facility. '84 MotorWeek Cherokee, Bronco and Blazer comparison indulges your SUV nostalgia

Fri, Jan 16 2015

These days, truck-based, full-frame SUVs are somewhat of a rarity on the auto landscape due to the rapid rise in popularity of easier-driving, car-based crossovers. Although, without the gradually building popularity of these chunky, high-riding vehicles decades ago, it's unlikely that America's roads would be filled with so many CUVs today. In its latest dig into the archives, MotorWeek has found a 1984 comparison test of a trio of these early Sport Utility Wagons, as long-time host John Davis called them, that helped get acceptance of this segment going. This is a red, white and blue test of the SUVs from American automakers at the time and pits the Chevrolet Blazer, Ford Bronco and Jeep Cherokee (specifically in Wagoneer guise) against each other. Driving manners and interior usability are considered in the evaluation, but Motorweek actually takes these vehicles off road, too. Among the bigger revelations is the improvement in on-road ability in the past 30 years. While specific 0-60 times aren't given, all three models take around 10 seconds just to get to around 50 miles per hour in the 500-feet on-ramp acceleration test. Check out this clip to see just how far this segment has progressed in the past three decades or just get a blast of nostalgia from these now vintage models.
