Jeep previews Easter Jeep Safari concepts, and one is called Jeepster

Thu, Mar 15 2018

Easter is coming up, which is a big deal for both Christians and Jeep fans. The latter of which are excited because the annual Easter Jeep Safari off-road event in Moab is coming, along with Jeep's wild concepts it builds for the event each year. We're getting an sneak peek at two of those Jeeps early, thanks to illustrations the company revealed. The first of them is very obviously a two-door 2018 Wrangler, but with some small changes, and the inspiration is obvious when spotting the badge on the front fender: "Jeepster." This concept pulls from the old Jeepster Commando from the '60s and '70s, a slightly longer Jeep that was a bit more civilized and had an available hardtop that had a distinct slant at the back. The slanted rear roof is very clear on this Wrangler's hardtop, and it has the contrasting color that its inspiration had, too. This Wrangler Jeepster is more off-road ready, though, with big chunky tires, a full-size spare moved inside, and gas cans mounted to the rear cargo door. It's more difficult to tell what sets apart the second Jeep Safari concept. It's obviously based on the 2018 Wrangler. The front fenders have been severely cut down and the front bumper removed to make room for what appear to be enormous tires and lots of suspension travel. It also bears a big hood scoop, maybe indicating a more powerful engine underneath. It also has full front doors, but the rear top has either been removed or lowered. We'll have more details on these and other Jeep Safari concepts in the next couple of weeks around the time of the event. So stay tuned for more wild Jeep news. This American Life spends a week selling Jeeps in Long Island

Thu, 19 Dec 2013

So you think you know car dealers? Well, maybe you do, but This American Life spent a month at Town and Country Jeep Chrysler Doge Ram in Long Island to give us a behind-the-scenes look (or listen, since it's a radio program) at what it's like to be a car dealer.
Yes, there's a lot of swearing in thick New York accents, frustration, confusion, and generally it's a madhouse at the dealership. But that's understandable when the sales staff has to sell 129 vehicles in October in order to get an $85,000 manufacturer bonus - with several other Jeep dealerships within a 10-mile radius.
The episode, 129 Cars, is worth a listen, but make sure you have 71 minutes to spare if you want to get through it in one sitting. Head here for the unedited version or here for the bleeped version (which is 58 minutes long).

New Jeep Wrangler pickup spy shots reveal suspension and tire details

Wed, May 17 2017

Most of the spy shots we've received of the Wrangler pickup have been from a bird's-eye perspective. However this time, one of our spy photographers got up close to the truck at ground level. The new view shows us some interesting details regarding the truck's suspension, as well as the placement of the spare tire. Immediately evident is that the Wrangler pickup will have the same sort of suspension design as its SUV sibling. Solid axles are employed at the front and rear, and it appears that the rear axle is coil-sprung, since there are no leaf springs nor shackles present underneath. The photos also reveal that the truck won't have a tailgate-mounted spare tire like the SUV. Instead, it will have a more traditional truck location beneath the bed. Few other new details can be seen from the spy photos. This prototype sports the same production-style bed we've previously seen. The photos also really show just how long this Wrangler pickup is. With such a long wheelbase and rear overhang, the pickup will have more difficulty with hills than the bed-less versions. Of course, it will also be able to carry more than those Wranglers. We expect it go on sale in late 2019 based on previous reports. Related Video:
