Chrysler readying 20 Moparized vehicles for SEMA
Tue, 08 Oct 2013The Las Vegas Convention Center has plenty of space for aftermarket companies and automakers to show off their wares, and it looks like Chrysler is taking advantage of the spacious floor plan. At next month's SEMA Show, Chrysler will have a full 20 cars from its six brands decked out with Mopar gear.
As a hint of what is to come, Chrysler released a handful of teaser sketches showing glimpses of modified Jeep Cherokee, Ram 1500, Fiat 500L and Chrysler 300 concept vehicles. The automaker will also use the venue to show off a new line of Jeep Performance Parts offered by the all-new Mopar Off-Road Division. In addition to the images, Chrysler also issued a brief press release - posted below - breaking down some of the "industry-first features" that Mopar has offered in recent years.
UPS employees band together to buy car for teen coworker
Fri, Mar 3 2017A young Alabama man got the surprise of a lifetime this week when his co-workers presented him with his very own car for his daily commute. According to the Daily Mail, 19-year-old Derrick Taylor started working at the Oxford, Alabama, UPS freight center a year and a half ago to support his ailing mother. With precious little money left over after bills and healthcare, Taylor had no money to afford a vehicle so he walked the five miles to and from work every day. Despite numerous offers of rides and loans, the young man was too proud to accept even the slightest help from his co-workers. Desperate to do something for him, Taylor's co-workers raised money in secret and bought him a used Jeep Cherokee off a local lot. 'This is a hard working young man. He makes me emotional. This young man wants to work so bad, he walks to work from way out of town," said James Williams, Taylor's safety instructor. "The group here, we've got some good news for you. Everybody came together and you don't have to walk no more. You've got your own ride. We want you to know we appreciate your hard work." Deeply moved, Taylor stood for a moment and wiped tears away before he walked over to check out the Jeep. "I was overwhelmed with joy. No one had ever done anything like that for me so it made me cry and I'm not really the type to show my emotions," he told the Daily Mail. Chrysler recalling 31k SUVs and vans
Fri, 06 Jun 2014Chrysler is issuing recalls covering roughly 31,700 vehicles worldwide due to two separate problems. In both cases the company believes that most of the affected vehicles are either still on, or in transit to, dealer lots.
One recall covers roughly 10,700 Dodge Durango, Jeep Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee SRT models from the 2014 model year built between January 16 and April 17, 2014. The SUVs need a software update for the cruise control. It's possible that when the cruise is on and the driver presses on the throttle, the acceleration could last a second after the pedal is released or two seconds for the SRT. Afterward, they return to the speed originally set by the driver.
Chrysler says it isn't aware of any accidents, injuries or even reported incidents of this happening in the real world. Also, in all cases, if the driver presses on the brake, the cruise shuts off. The automaker believes that there are about 6,100 affected SUVs in the US, 950 in Canada, 425 in Mexico and 3,200 outside of North America. The software upgrade will be ready shortly, the company says.
