I’m often asked where we find these clean, unique vehicles.  One of my best friends cruises parking lots of retirement homes, Elks clubs, the V.F.W. Halls and the back streets of a well-known Scandinavian neighborhood here in north Seattle.  He can spot a seatbelt slammed in a door a mile away…  He’ll notice when a nice old car or truck is driving with a turn signal on just a little too long and he positively twitches with glee when a vehicle with metal bumpers passes by!  If you’re in the market for a great driving, accident-free vintage SUV please give this bone-stock Grand Wagoneer your kind attention.  Feel free to contact me with questions or to discuss a sale before the end of the Ebay auction listing.  My name is Mark Thompson and I can be reached directly at 206/914-1173.

CONDITION:

The photos really tell the Grand Wagoneer’s story.  It has spent most, if not all it’s life here in the Great Pacific Northwest driving our salt-free western Washington roads.  From the photos you’ll see the rig has obviously been well cared for over the years.  We’ve found absolutely NO evidence of any accidents, body or storm damage, insurance salvage, theft recovery, repossession or any other nasty negatives to cause you concern as the lucky new driver!

I take great pride in our vehicles and feel that you should know as much about them as possible.  Accordingly, here’s a list of the good and also any small things possibly needing attention: The four wheel drive system works just as it should.  With a flip of a switch the drive train goes to full 4x4 mode, so most of the time you’ll be in 2WD and not wearing out the strong Dana front axel components during summertime highway use.  The overall exterior is in very good condition.  This rig wears the original factory gray paint color and has had one very good quality respray.  It holds a shine well with no breakdown of the clearcoat (a very common issue on these rigs).  Rust?  Well, this classic Jeep HATES rust and you’d be hard pressed to find ANY to worry about here!  Because we rarely get snow in the Puget Sound Basin, our winter roads are never salted.  The engine compartment is clean.  Climb over, under and throughout - I know you’ll come up smiling!

When this generation of Wagoneer first came on the market back in the early eighties not everyone wanted the woodgrain trim so iconically associated with them today.  A special “factory delete” order could be placed with a local dealer and we believe that’s how this Jeep was built.   We’ve sold many dozens of these SUV’s and this is only the third time one has come in to us without factory inserts or trim.

One turn of the key and the strong 360 CID V8 fires right up with just a few pumps of the gas pedal.  The three-speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly, just like it should, with NO slippage.  There’s a tilt steering column, power windows (all but one work, including the tailgate glass, but can be a bit slow), air conditioning and power steering.  I believe every Grand Wagoneer came with power front disk brakes in 1989 and these stop just fine with no pulling or binding.  All four factory alloy wheels are wrapped with top line 235/75R15 quality radials with plenty of remaining tread.  It really is a blast to drive anywhere you’d wish to go!

Please take another look at the interior shots.  The upholstery is original, unfaded and sound on the both the front leather and fabric panels.  Same goes for the rear bench seat.  There are NO cracks in the dash cover.  The headliner is good, with just a little board warpage near the center, and has NO fabric separation from the backing. The matching original burgundy carpets are in very decent, clean condition including the rear cargo area and on the fold-down rear door.  All of the door panels have stood the test of time and are in excellent condition.  You’ll be quite impressed with the dash gauges.  They’re still as clear and bright as the day this rig left the dealership 24 years ago!  All the window glass is great with no cracks or “bullseye” chips.
If you’re thinking of bidding on a comparable Chevy Suburban or Ford Bronco of similar vintage, you really owe it to yourself to drive and look this unique piece over first!  About the only negatives I can think to point out are: a missing drivers wind-wing button & clamp arm; the A/C doesn’t blow cold (likely just a recharge – the heater is great though) and the Pioneer CD/Supertuner is a bit finiky.

PLEASE BID WITH CONFIDENCE and know that you are purchasing a very nice vehicle from a respected Ebay seller.  I want you to be happy with your purchase (and with me) and that’s the main goal!   Please don’t be upset by a missed flaw or some unforeseen problem!  No vintage used car or truck is ever perfect.

Because of the amount of money involved in buying a vehicle, we require that Ebay members with a feedback history of five or fewer transactions call or email before placing a bid.  If I don’t have this initial contact, your bid may be cancelled.   As I’ve outlined above, the phone number to talk directly to me is 206/914-1173.  Please feel free to call any time during the auction.  My name is MARK THOMPSON.  You’re welcome and encouraged to come by my Auburn, WA warehouse to inspect & drive the Wagoneer.  You might also make an offer as many of my vehicles sell to smart “early birds” that call and work out a deal prior to the auction’s end.  I always reserve the right to sell during this period.

A Few Additional Terms and Conditions:

A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s conclusion.  The balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven business days unless prior arrangements have been made with me.  I can accept PAYPAL, but if you plan to pay any more than the deposit through them I’ll first need to invoice you and ask that you cover the 3.5% fee PayPal charges.  Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract!  You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends.

If you decide to have the Jeep transported home, there are scores of companies to choose from.  I ship vehicles regularly and suggest that you get a transport bid from Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS).  They're EBay’s preferred transporter and will give you a fair quote.  Call my designated rep, Janice, directly at (469)587-5096.  Give her my affiliate number (2362642) and she can pull up all our information for station-to-station or even door-to-door quotes.

As an alternative, you might also get bids from the U-Ship.com website.  You’ll be able to choose a transport broker from multiple offers.  The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn, Washington).  The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER

The Jeep can be stored free of charge at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received.  After that period storage is $20 per day.  The vehicle is being sold as-is, where-is, with no warranty expressed or implied.  All information described above is based on the observed condition when the listing was placed.  I've done my very best to describe the Grand Wagoneer as honestly as possible and encourage bidders to contact me with questions.

Weekly Recap: Jaguar takes a leap with price cut, new strategy

Sat, Sep 5 2015

Jaguar was one of the famous automotive props and plotlines in the now-iconic drama Mad Men. There's a scene where the show's protagonist, Don Draper, deftly undercuts an influential Jaguar dealer by indicating that get-me-in-the-door local radio spots would be an effective way to sell cars like the slinky E-Type. The British executives think this is folly – Draper knows they will – and his advertising strategy wins out over the dealer's approach to move the metal. Jaguar's not doing that, but half a century later in the real world the company is launching plans to make its cars more attainable to new and younger customers like Millenials. These aren't coupons, but this is a leap for Jaguar, which has long banked on sexy styling and its rich motorsports history to overshadow its past mechanical flaws. Put simply, Jaguar is addressing the reasons why people, especially the younger set, don't buy its cars. The 2017 XE will start at $35,895 when it launches next spring – which makes it an attractive buy for a successful, relatively young person. When it's time to move up, the redesigned XF will be more attainable, coming in at $52,895, which is $5,275 less than the 2015 model. The flagship XJ sedan and the enthusiast-oriented F-Type sports car will also get thousands of dollars worth of added standard features, and Jag is actively pitching them as a better value than their competitors. "The Jaguar brand is on the eve of a major transformation that will see it dramatically increase its presence in the United States luxury marketplace with an expanded lineup, pricing focused on the core of the luxury market, and an all-new ownership package with best-in-class coverage," Joe Eberhardt, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover North America, said in a statement. The brand's quality and reliability dings have also lurked in the back of buyers' minds for decades, though that's an outdated notion. Jaguar placed third in J.D. Power's Initial Quality Study in June and was the top-ranked luxury brand in J.D. Power's Customer Service Index in March. Not content, the company is rolling out an enhanced program called Jaguar EliteCare that launches on 2016 models. It offers a five-year, 60,000-mile limited warranty, the longest among its competitors, with free scheduled maintenance during that period. The plan also covers roadside assistance and connectivity features.

Chrysler resolves recall issue with NHTSA, will inspect, upgrade affected Jeeps

Tue, 18 Jun 2013

Chrysler made big news earlier in the month by refusing a recall request from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty. Last week, NHTSA boss David Strickland countered by defending his agency's request for the recall of 2.7 million Jeep SUVs. Today marked the deadline for Chrysler to formally respond to NHTSA, and it seems that both parties have met in the middle with Chrysler inspecting and upgrading some of the affected vehicles without using the word "recall," which would constitute the admission of a defect; instead, Chrysler said that it is conducting a "voluntary campaign."
At issue on these vehicles is the positioning of the fuel tank behind the rear axle that could get damaged during a rear-end collision. NHTSA has stated that at least 51 people have been killed in rear-end collisions involving these Jeeps after the vehicles caught fire, to which Chrysler countered by pointing out that both models "met and exceeded" the requirements for fuel-system integrity.
As a compromise on the situation, Chrysler says that it will inspect all pre-2004 Grand Cherokees and pre-2007 Liberty models and, "if necessary, provide an upgrade to the rear structure of the vehicle." According to Automotive News, this upgrade will consist of adding a trailer hitch that will presumably better protect the rear-mounted gas tank. Vehicles already equipped with a factory or Mopar hitch will not be modified. Chrysler's official statement on the matter is posted below, but no additional information has been released, such as when the campaign will begin and how many vehicles could be affected.
