1971 Kaiser Jeepster Jeep Commando 4wd - Dauntless 225 V6 - Automatic !!! on 2040-cars
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States
|
This auction is for a 1971 Kaiser Jeepster Jeep Commando with a Dauntless 225 V6 and Automatic transmission. Between 1997 and 2011 this Jeepster Commando was stored in a temperature controlled garage and used mostly in parades and vintage/antique auto car cruises and shows - up until a 50+ foot cherry tree weighing several thousand pounds fell on the Jeepster Commando. Thus ended the parades and and car cruises for this Jeepster. As a testimony to Kaiser Jeep - this Jeepster Commando still runs and drives - although nothing like it used to. As the photos document the tree fell upon the Jeepster from the passenger side rear quarter panel to the driver side front quarter panel. Amazingly - the driver and passenger side front seats and the rear seat do not have a scratch or blemish on them - which is more than I can say for the body. It seems to run well up to about 25 mph - but needs a new battery at the moment. I had the original Dauntless 225 V6 engine completely rebuilt with new rings, valves, pistons, cylinders, gaskets, etc two months before it was struck by a tree. As of last year - which was the last time I checked - the radio, all of the electronics, lights, etc worked great. Remarkable the weight of three did not damage, bend, crack, weaken or break any part of the frame structure or integrity. It continued to work well mechanically after it was struck by the tree - despite the body looking .... well ..... like it has hit by a tree. The only items that I removed from the Jeepster were a NOS chrome thumb lighter that I paid $ 100 and a set of four NOS mint condition hub caps that I paid $ 250. The hard top is in very good condition - and the soft top could be repaired by your local shoe store for $ 50 and used again - although the hardware for the soft top was crushed and would need to be purchased at a cost of $ 51 from Best Top. My original cost of the Kaiser Jeepster Commando soft top was $ 634. The tires are OK and with the exception of being partially crushed by a cherry tree - everything is in good condition. I have a Salvage Title for this vehicle and understand it can be insured, registered, etc and used on road or off road again. Bid with Confidence - and please bring this war horse back to life. Thank you.
On Jul-15-14 at 11:54:03 PDT, seller added the following information: The cost to have the original Dauntless 225 V6 engine completely professionally rebuilt from top to bottom in April 2011 was $ 2,122.00. The rebuilt engine has approximately 29 miles on it. |

Autoblog's Mylencia Gillenwaters reports on this edition of Autoblog Minute. Show full video transcript text [00:00:00] Jeep seems to be changing its production strategy. Wrangler to remain in Toledo but Cherokee is slated to leave. I'm Mylencia Gillenwaters and this is your Autoblog Minute. According to a report from the Automotive News production of the Jeep Cherokee will be moved to another state. To fill the void, Jeep might develop a pickup that would be built alongside Wrangler at the Toledo, Ohio plant. A Wrangler pickup is an exciting prospect [00:00:30] for Jeep fans ever since the Jeep Gladiator concept was first introduced in 2005. Jeep officials declined to comment on its production and future vehicle development plans. We will most likely get an official statement from the automaker when they wrap up negotiations with the UAW. Leave us a comment below. Would you buy a Wrangler pickup? For Autoblog, I'm Mylencia Gillenwaters. Autoblog Minute is a short-form video news series reporting on all things automotive. 2014 Jeep Cherokee gets official in a hurry
Fri, 22 Feb 2013Automakers work very, very hard to keep their new vehicles under wraps until they can present them in exactly the way they want it - typically choreographed under the bright lights of an auto show, or perhaps with photos or video in an idyllic location. Spy shooters and leaks, in other words, keep executives and public-relations types up at night.
This is likely to be one of the most polarizing designs to come out in 2014.
Take today, for instance, when the team over at Jalopnik got a big scoop - the first undisguised shots of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, a model whose name wasn't even officially confirmed yet. The clandestine images taken inside of a factory were blurry and didn't exactly show off the crossover's radical new contours in the same sort of flattering light that Jeep probably would've wished for its product reveal. So the Auburn Hills automaker has wisely reacted by spilling at least some of the beans on the new model, giving us these four photos and confirming the Liberty replacement's name, Cherokee.
GM being sued over imploding Bosch fuel pumps in Duramax diesel trucks
Fri, Aug 9 2019Texas-based law firm Hilliard Martinez Gonzalez (HMG) this week filed a class-action lawsuit against General Motors over an alleged issue with Bosch CP4 fuel pumps. The suit claims Bosch designed the CP4 pump to work with European diesel fuel, which is thicker than U.S. diesel. When GM installed that pump in the 6.6-liter Duramax engine used from the 2011 to 2016 model years, the lawsuit claims the thinner U.S. fuel didn't provide enough lubrication, allowing air pockets to form in the fuel pump. That, in turn, allegedly let metal rub against metal inside the pump, causing the pump to eventually disintegrate and "send thousands of metal shards into the fuel injection system and every part of the engine." The Detroit News reported on the most recent lawsuit filed in Michigan's Eastern District Court, but the case is another piece of nationwide legal maneuvering going on since at least last September. Every U.S. truck maker used the Bosch CP4 fuel pump, and HMG originally went after all of them, as well as Bosch. On September 30, 2018, HMG filed a class-action suit in Texas on behalf of eight plaintiffs. The law firm wanted to prosecute the affair under RICO — the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act — and named 10 defendants: FCA US LLC, FCA North America Holdings, LLC, F/K/A Chrysler Group, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, N.V., Ford Motor Company, General Motors LLC, Robert Bosch GmbH, Robert Bosch LLC, VM North America, Inc., and VM Motori S.P.A. The firm filed another suit in Florida on Nov. 2, 2018, against the same 10 defendants, again under the RICO statute, this time on behalf of more than 30 plaintiffs. We don't know how many other suits might have been filed, but the two suits mentioned apparently didn't have legs — the courts dismissed both quickly. So HMG shifted its strategy away from the RICO angle, and focused its efforts on GM, filing suit in California on Nov. 20, 2018. Instead of trying to catch 10 fish with a small net, HMG wants to score one fish with a big net. The results have borne more promise for the plaintiffs. In July this year, a judge in California denied GM's motion to dismiss, noting "the alleged defect is central to the vehicleÂ’s function." This latest suit filed on Aug. 6 in Detroit singles out GM again. The Bosch CP4 is known to be problematic, however.
