I bought this pick up new in 1988, and drove it regularly until my "first retirement" in 2002. At that point, I had more vehicles on the road than I wanted to afford, and it was in need of some work. I no longer plated it, and used it as a wood hauler on my own land for a couple of years, until the battery went dead. I parked it indoors, and there it has stayed ever since, only to roll it out to photograph it for this ad.
Be not deceived! This truck is far from mint, but is being sold without reserve, with an opening bid below salvage value. It would probably, with some work, make a decent hauler, or would be good for parts for your Jeep. It would not be worth restoring.
Body wise, there are, as you can see in the photos, a fair amount of body panel rust and minor dents and dings. Rust is not structural, and the frame is solid. The tailgate has a crimp I caused years ago carrying lumber too long for it, and the release handle on the tailgate is missing. I have opened it for years with a screw driver. The pick up bed is solid and without rust, and the cab floor has only one small rust hole behind the front seat. Glass is good, and windows roll up and down. Passenger window regulator must has the last couple of teeth broken. If you roll it down all the way, you need to pull the glass up by hand until it catches. As long as you leave it up an inch or so, no problem.
The interior is actually nice. Seats, door panels, and rubber mats are in good shape. The headliner is intact, but has come loose from the foam backing and is sagging.
The only options on the vehicle are a rear bumper, cloth seats, and AM radio. Last used, the radio brought in signal, but was full of static. I bought the vehicle for service, not comfort.
The vehicle rolls easily, but I would bring a wench and trailer to load and carry it. I have not tried to start the vehicle in years. Since it has been stored inside, I would expect that it could be brought back to life, but no guarantee as to what work it would take.
The following describes the mechanics when it was parked, about eight years ago. The engine ran smooth, but fowled plugs more often than would be expected. Probably a valve issue. The radiator was in good shape, but there was a "drip drip" fluid leak where the lower hose met the water pump. It needed front brake hoses, but still had brakes, since this has the old AMC twin brake cylinder, and the rear brakes were fine. The brake pedal is still up, and the rear brakes still work. The front end was solid, but the steering box will need to be rebuilt. Steering was and is sloppy. All exhaust components were good except the pipe from the manifold to the converter. That was and is rusted out and will require replacement. Tires were nearly new, some still show blue on the whitewalls, and, although now old, are full tread and show no signs of weather cracking. Shocks were changed about a year before retiring the truck. There is a quarter of a tank of decade old gas in the gas tank, so that will need attention before trying to start the truck. In general, there are issues, but I think the truck is still too good to go to the crusher.
There is a decent aluminum cap on the vehicle, as pictured, and it goes with the truck. There have been no significant accidents, but the grill and radiator were both replaced years back, when a deer tried to run between the headlights. I found him tasty.
I hold clear title to the vehicle. I have tried to accurately describe this truck, but if I have left something out, or if you have other questions, I check my email at least daily, and try to respond to questions promptly.
Lately, I have had some problems with non paying bidders. This is frustrating. This truck will sell on the cheap, so please do not bid if you do not have cash to complete the transaction or if you a just having a bit of fun on eBay. Thanks for your help in that matter!

Jeep and Ram could be spun off from FCA, says Marchionne
Thu, Apr 27 2017Jeep is surely the biggest single feather left in the cap of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles portfolio. Under Sergio Marchionne's leadership, Jeep went from fewer than 500,000 annual sales in 2008 to 1.4 million in 2016, and is on track for 2 million by 2018. Add in the brand's legacy, status as one of the most recognizable nameplates in the world, and rabid fan base, and Jeep has extraordinary monetary value to its parent company. Investors and analysts have certainly noticed Jeep's inherent value. According to The Detroit Free Press, Morgan Stanley's Adam Jonas asked FCA chief Sergio Marchionne if he would ever consider spinning Jeep and Ram, FCA's dedicated truck brand, into a separate corporate entity, and he responded with a simple "Yes." Jonas estimated Jeep's worth in January of this year at $22 billion. Ram was valued at $11.2 billion. Marchionne has a history of spinning off brands while keeping them part of FCA's corporate umbrella. The most noteworthy example of this value maximization was with Ferrari, which now trades on the New York Stock Exchange and rakes in $3.4 billion in annual revenue and close to $435 million in net income, reports the Free Press. Marchionne still serves as chairman and CEO of Ferrari, and Fiat heir John Elkann owns 22 percent of the Italian marque's shares. Even if the offloading of Jeep and Ram into a separate entity would amount to little more than a profit-driven ownership change on paper, it would be huge news to the brands' loyal fanbases. In any case, such a move would likely take years to actually happen and probably wouldn't mean much at all to the products that Jeep and Ram produce. In other words, Jeep fans can keep the pitchforks in the shed ... for now. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
Anton Yelchin's family suing FCA over the actor's death
Wed, Aug 3 2016UPDATE: Anton Yelchin received a recall notification for his Grand Cherokee a week after his death, family attorney Gary Dordick told Variety at a press conference. Dordick called FCA's recall "way too little and way too late." The family of actor Anton Yelchin is suing FCA for negligence and product liability, according to Automotive News. Yelchin was killed in June when his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled away, pinning him against a brick pillar and a gate. The Jeep Grand Cherokee, along with 1.1 million other FCA products, is currently under recall for a poorly designed shifter that may lead drivers to believe the car is in park when it isn't. Vehicles affected by the recall are at risk of rolling away. The recall was issued two months before Yelchin's death on June 19. It's believed that this is the first wrongful death lawsuit related to the recall. Although the shifter recall is linked to hundreds of injuries, Yelchin's death is currently the only fatality. There is a class-action lawsuit currently being filed against the automaker. FCA, in a statement to Automotive News, declined to comment and said it had not been served with a lawsuit. The automaker continues to urge drivers to follow the instructions in their owner's manual and become familiar with the instructions that were included with the recall notice. Related Video:
Jay Leno rides high in Fab Fours Legend
Mon, Mar 23 2015Jeep showcased some pretty awesome concepts at its Easter Safari in Moab a few days ago, but few if any of them were quite as extreme as what's rolled in to Jay Leno's Garage for this latest video installment. It's called the Legend, and it was made by aftermarket bumper manufacturer Fab Fours to demonstrate its capabilities. It's obviously based on the Jeep Wrangler, but it's riding high on 50-inch tires with a jacked-up monster truck suspension, giant fenders, a chopped-down red-tinted greenhouse and something its creators call a "grumper" that integrates the bumper into the grille. Or vice versa. Though most of the oily bits have carried over from the production model, it's hardly what you'd call "practical," but it's sure to turn a lot of heads... even one as massive as Jay's.
