Jeep Cherokee Xj Race Rig Rock Crawler Off Road Vehicle on 2040-cars
Charlotte, North Carolina, United States
This is a one of kind Jeep Cherokee. This Jeep was custom built Marsfab Off road (marsfab.com) in Harrisburg Nc. The jeep was built to compete in the E.C.O.R.S. (ecors.com) race series. No expense was spared building this rig. Its a top competitor.
Drivetrain: engine is a jeep 4.0 with several mods done. The intake manifold and throttle body were custom ported by Newcomer Racing (newcomerracing.com). Its got 4 hole ford fuel injectors. The air intake was ran through the firewall to the interior. Its got a remote mounted oil filter that runs through a large oil cooler. Engine has custom mount plates and motor mounts by Brown Dog Industries (browndogindustries.com). Engine has a stainless steel header that exits through custom built exhaust. Transmission is an AW4 that is pretty much stock except having the line pressures raised slightly. The transmission is cooled by a remote mounted cooler with its own electric fan. All transmission lines have been rerouted to keep from being smashed by suspension components (common on cherokees used for off road racing). Axles: Front axle is a dana 30. The houseing has been heavily trussed with 3/8ths plate to keep from bending and breaking. The inner c's have been gusseted also. The steering is made up of 7/8ths heim joints and 1.5 inch .25 wall dom tubing. All of the steering mounting points are mounted double sheer. The rear axle is a ford 8.8 with disc brakes. Suspension: The front suspension is a custom marsfab offroad long arm set up with Barnes4wd Enduro joints. The front also has Fox 2.0 remote reservoir shocks and fox 2.0 4" travel air bump stops. To round out the front suspension there is also custom torsional sway bar. In the rear the jeeps got leaf springs mounted with Liquid Iron Industries slider boxes in place of the factory shackles. The rear also has Fox 2.0 remote reservoir shocks. All the shocks have been custom valved and tuned by Carolina Truggies. Chassis: This jeep has a one off custom roll cage. The cage ties into the unibody front to rear to really stiffen the body of the jeep. The cage also passes through the firewall and attaches to shock and bump mount area to stiffen the front end up. There are custom built chassis stiffeners on the bottom side of the jeep also. The interior has been completely stripped from the jeep. Now the inside contains Hunsaker Racing suspension seats mounted into the cage. Its got Racequip 5 point harnesses. There is a custom built aluminum gauge pod. Its also got a Whelen siren inplace of the horn. Really helps when your trying to pass other competitors. Its got a quick release steering too. Misc: Jeeps got bladder style 32 gallon fuel cell. To meet the rules for most race series all fluids have been run to custom built catch cans. The jeeps got a 8000# winch mounted to custom prerunner style bumper. Its got hid off road lights up front. Tow points front and rear. Custom mounted spare tire and high lift jack. First aid kit and fire extinguishers. 33x12.50x15 general grabber red label tires. The list goes on and on. Im sure I am forgetting some things. All in all this is a great race rig or weekend warrior. You could not buy all the parts on it for the buy it now price let alone all the materials and labor in fab time. My loss is your gain. |

Marchionne wants to nearly double Jeep sales by 2018
Thu, Jan 15 2015Jeep just keeps breaking its own sales records. A couple of weeks ago, the off-road brand announced its worldwide sales exceeded one million units for the first time, marking its third consecutive global record and the fifth straight year of sales increases here in the US. But FCA isn't about to stop there. TheDetroitBureau.com reports that chief executive Sergio Marchionne, speaking to the media at the Detroit Auto Show, has announced a new sales target for the Jeep division: By 2018, he wants to see Jeep sell 1.9 million units in a single year, nearly doubling its all-time record. The expansion will surely encompass new products, with the all-new Renegade just warming up, a next-generation Wrangler on the way and a reborn Grand Wagoneer in the pipeline, as well. But the focus of FCA's preparations to reach the new target is on production capacity. While it's not clear whether the Toledo, OH plant where half of all the Jeeps sold around the world are currently built will continue to host the next Wrangler, FCA is expanding production overseas. The Renegade is already being built alongside the Fiat 500X in Italy, where another 1,000 workers are being re-hired and where another factory is set to start producing Jeeps, as well. A Renegade-based variant for the South American market will soon be built in Brazil, and by the end of this year, Jeep aims to start local production in China.
Six 'shut up and take my money' cars
Tue, 11 Nov 2014Any time you see this iconic moment in pop culture - Shut up and take my money! - posted in response to a new car reveal, rumor for an upcoming model or even lip-service to a vehicle that should exist, you can bet there's some intrinsic good in the idea. Though depending on the person offering up the cash, that good could take the form of extraordinary form, functionality, weight savings, power, handling, etc. You get the idea.
In fact, when I first proposed this list, I reached out to the Autoblog staff to help me brainstorm. Here are some of the ideas they offered up that I ultimately didn't use: Jaguar XE Coupe, Pagani Huayra Roadster, Mercedes-Benz S-Class "parade car" (cabriolet), Morgan 3-Wheeler with Ducati V-twin, Ford Transit Connectamino (pickup), Mercedes CLA63 AMG, Ford Fusion 5.0, BMW i8 Spyder, Lexus RC-F Shooting Brake, Volvo XC90 Polestar. Oh, and things we collectively wanted to stick Dodge's Hellcat in were almost as numerous as models that Fiat Chrysler Automotive currently makes (though none quite so compelling as the Grand Cherokee you see above.)
Ultimately though, while I used a couple of ideas from my colleagues, the list of cars I'd shell out for unquestionably is very personal. Though it isn't complete, what follows is a selection of cars whose very existence would prompt me - or the trust-fund-baby versions of me - to utter without hesitation: "Shut up and take my money."
2015 Jeep Cherokee finds a bit more fuel mileage thanks to stop/start and aero tweaks
Mon, 06 Oct 2014Just a year after it burst onto the scene, Jeep has already made a pretty substantial addition to its V6-powered Cherokee, which has proven to be an extremely popular seller so far for the brand, adding a new stop-start system for the midsize, off-road-ready CUV.
The addition of stop-start included a few aerodynamic tweaks to the Cherokee's polarizing body, resulting in a wallet-pleasing increase in fuel economy. According to the EPA, the front-drive, V6-powered Jeep will now return 21 miles per gallon in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, up from 19 city and 28 highway. Four-wheel-drive, V6-powered Cherokees, meanwhile, will now return 20 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, up from 19 mpg in the city and 27 mpg.
With 271 horsepower, 239 pound-feet of torque and these newly enhanced figures, it's refreshing to see a larger, naturally aspirated engine that is still able to take the fight to today's crop of small-displacement, turbocharged four-cylinders.
