1996 Jeep Cherokee Xj 4 Wheel Drive California Barn Find Only 7800 Mi Per Year on 2040-cars
Canyon, California, United States
****1996 JEEP CHEROKEE XJ**** *********4 WHEEL DRIVE******** ******CALIFORNIA CAR****** **ONLY 7800 MILES PER YEAR** ****4.0 L "HIGH OUTPUT"**** Up for bid is a 1996 4 wheel drive Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0 L High Output inline 6 cylinder and Automatic transmission 1996 MOST DESIRABLE YEAR FOR THE XJ This is a very clean California car that has average just 7800 miles per year with just 142880 miles. The Jeep is a basic model with all of the good stuff. It has air condition that blows ice cold, the heater also works great. It has crank windows which work great, a lot of these Jeeps that have power windows are not working when they get to this age. The interior is cloth and is in decent shape how ever is a little dirty in spots, the rear seat has a small tear on the drivers side but is in good shape for 18 years old. It will fold out like a bed if needed. The head liner is original and has some imperfections but all in all intact. This Jeep was originally built as a black vehicle. This Jeep was owned by a San Francisco Executive in Orinda, California, and has never been abused and that was used by each of his 3 daughters who were 3 years apart each. This Jeep was in the high school parking lot for over 9 years. When it came time for the third daughter to get a new vehicle she was told she was getting a new car and all she had to do was pick a color. She picked White. Dad paid to have this black Cherokee color changed to white. It is a high quality base coat clear coat that looks very clean with no damage or or evidence of damage repair. The car is very clean however the door jambs and under the hood are still original black .
the interior is in decent shape for the age of the vehicle, it does have some stains and a small tear on the left side of the rear bench, the headliner is torn in a few spots , the dash is super clean as are the door panels, the Jeep has the optional deep tented glass.
This Jeep runs great, the 4.0 "HIGH OUTPUT” fires right up and has surprising low end power. IT pulls strong
in every gear, the transfer case works like new and has seen hardly any use. It
has been tested and shifts like new. It has always been overly serviced by Orinda
motors and mechanically in great shape. LET'S SEE HOW SHE RUNS
SOLID CALIFORNIA CAR The Jeep Cherokee (XJ) is a unibody (monocoque) compact SUV that
was developed and produced by the Jeep division
of American Motors, and continued to be built and
marketed by Chrysler after 1987. It shared the name of the
original full-size SJ model, but without a body-on-frame chassis,
and set the stage for the modern sport utility vehicle (SUV). The XJ's innovative appearance
and sales popularity spawned important imitators as other automakers began to
notice that this model began replacing regular cars. It was built in Toledo, Ohio The XJ Jeep has been
described as one of the 20 greatest cars of all time, and "possibly the
best SUV shape of all time, it is the paradigmatic model to which other
designers have since aspired".
Due to its toughness
and reliability, the XJ was also selected in 2011 as one of "10 cars that
refuse to die" In 1991, a Chrysler fuel injection system replaced the
RENIX system, and the intake ports were raised approximately .125 in
(3.2 mm) for a better entry radius. Chrysler also enlarged the throttle
body and
redesigned the intake and exhaust manifolds for more efficiency, and the fuel
injectors were replaced with higher flow units. Camshaft timing was also
changed. The net result was an engine that made 190 hp (142 kW;
193 PS) and 225 lb·ft (305 N·m). Badging on most Jeeps equipped
with this engine read "4.0 Litre HIGH OUTPUT." The new cam profile
combined with altered computer programming eliminated the need for an EGR valve
and knock sensor . 1996,
the engine block was redesigned for greater strength. The new block had more
webbing and a stud girdle for added rigidity of the crankshaft main bearings. For
1996, partially to comply with new U.S. OBD-II exhaust and evaporative
emissions regulations, the engine management system was upgraded to Chrysler's
then-new "JTEC" PCM. This added the side benefits of improving
reliability and easing diagnostics. Don’t
miss out on this opportunity to have a solid original California Jeep with a
powerful 4.0 High Output that has never been abused This car is a rare find that cannot be duplicated. She runs and drives great Thank you for looking at our auction. 10 Facts about the 2018 Jeep Wrangler
Wed, Nov 29 2017The 2018 Jeep Wrangler is here. It debuts this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show and it's going on sale in January. After years of anticipation, it's finally reality. Here's our complete First Look, but to break it down further, here's things you'll find curious, cool, absolutely necessary, or just plain interesting. – The 2018 Jeep Wrangler (JL) will be sold concurrently during 2018 as inventory is moved out. This means you might be able to get a decent deal on the outgoing model, the JK. It gets a little confusing since the JK and the JL will both be 2018 models, which suggests the JK sell-down might take awhile. Mike Manley, Jeep boss, defended the strategy during a briefing in Auburn Hills, and noted it's somewhat common across the industry. – The doors: They lift out and have handles so you don't drop them. There's also half-doors that will be offered in 2019. Doors weren't standard on Wranglers until the early 1980s. – There are multiple trims. The two-door comes in Sport, Sport S or Rubicon. The Unlimited is Sport, Sport S, Sahara or Rubicon. Expect more to come. – The EcoDiesel arrives in 2019. This could be interesting. Jeep says it's in response to consumer demand, and it could be a differentiator from the Ford Bronco or other utes looming on the horizon. The V6 is the same engine from the Ram and Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel models. In the Wrangler, it pumps out 260 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. – The Sky One-Touch power top is cool. With a touch of a button, the canopy of the roof scrolls back. Perfect for the urban or actual jungle. It's offered on Rubicon and Sahara four-door variants. – What they didn't do: The speculation surrounding the Wrangler's future hit a fever pitch in 2015, and most of rumors didn't pan out. It's still built in Toledo, Ohio and it's still body on frame. – Some of the rumors were (kinda) on point. Aluminum was used, fairly extensively. The doors, door hinges and front fenders are aluminum. The rear swing gate is magnesium. No one was speculating on that one. – The badges are cool, and Wrangler enthusiasts will love them. There's one on the swing gate that harks back to the Willys predecessors and offers cool stats, like the fording depth of 30 inches. There's also a silhouette on the shifter and the steering wheel is meant to conjure the image of the Y-shaped ones on military vehicles. You kind of need to squint for that one, but there's plenty of other Easter Eggs.
Is a Jeep Renegade Hybrid coming soon?
Wed, Mar 14 2018We've known that Jeep is working on an updated Renegade. We've seen prototypes with updated front and rear fascias and with updated interiors. But it seems that the next Renegade will have more than just cosmetic updates. One of our spy photographers caught Jeep testing a Renegade Trailhawk that looks like a normal current one, but it has an electric shock warning sign in the window. Can we therefore assume it'll be a Jeep Renegade Hybrid? This sign seems to indicate that the Renegade will offer some sort of electrified powertrain. And its use on a lifted, off-road oriented Renegade Trailhawk seems to indicate that it'll be available throughout the trim level lineup. The question is, will it really be a hybrid or something like the Wrangler four-cylinder that features a 48-volt electrical system and a starter/generator for mild electrical assistance? This system is becoming more and more common as a way for car companies to eke out a few more mpg as well as adding some performance gains. Then again, we never saw this sign in any prototype Wranglers, so it could be possible this Renegade is using a more traditional hybrid system like you would find in a Prius or Ioniq. FCA certainly has experience with full hybrids, as evidenced by the Pacifica PHEV. The Wrangler will be getting a PHEV iteration, too. We probably don't have long to find out what sort of electrification the Renegade will receive. The visually updated prototypes we've seen aren't radically changed, so it likely won't take long to finish testing and release them. We're expecting to see the little SUV revealed by the end of the year, and probably on lots early in 2019. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Jeep hiring 1,000 part-time workers in Toledo on Wrangler, Cherokee demand
Wed, 12 Mar 2014The new Jeep Cherokee has been quite a success for Chrysler, but its factory workers are getting tired. The automaker has agreed to hire up to 1,000 part-time, temporary employees at its Toledo Assembly Complex where the CUV and Wrangler are built. It will allow the company to keep Jeep production moving, while giving laborers a break.
According to plant manager Chuck Padden in the Toledo Blade, full-time workers are regularly taking on 60 hours a week, and it's beginning to wear on them. "To get them more time off is important to us, to make sure they're refreshed, and can work safely," said Padden.
Chrysler has already hired 380 temporary, part-time workers for the plant, and 50 have been converted to full-time employees. The company is in the process of interviewing the rest of the new hires now and plans to have all 1,000 in place by the summer. They will work between 10 and 30 hours a week mostly on weekends for $15.78 per hour with limited benefits. The temporary positions will last "as long as demand continues for the Jeep Wrangler and the Jeep Cherokee," said Jodi Tinson, Chrysler spokesperson for manufacturing and labor communications, to Autoblog in an email.
