I have my rugged CJ7 up for sale. This jeep has been in my family for the better part of 15 years, but i have just had a baby, so i need a more infant-carrier friendly vehicle. I am extremely meticulous in my vehicle maintenance; i often replace entire sets of parts instead of just the broken piece. Since i have been the owner of this jeep, i have performed a tremendous amount of work to keep it running strong. This jeep will probably not win any beauty pageants, but it will take you to all of them.
By vehicle sub-system i have replaced, maintenanced or updated:
Fuel
New fuel tank
Fuel pickup
Filler hoses
Filler neck
Gas cap
Soft lines
Fuel pump
Fuel filter
Carburetor -- Aftermarket Holley with manual choke and an ring air cleaner element available in any parts store.
Cooling
New brass-core radiator and cap
Water pump
Thermostat
Stainless bolts for the thermostat housing (old bolts rusted in place)
All rubber hoses
Heater core
Heater blower motor
Engine
Replaced the rear main seal (engine does not leak oil any more)
Timing chain (probably not necessary, but i already had the water pump out)
Ignition coil, plugs, wires, distributor cap and button
Replaced PCV valves and grommets
Electrical
Battery is less than 6 months old
Headlamps are Hella round enclosures with H1 bulbs -- which you can buy in any parts store, unlike the old sealed beam units.
All parking and exterior indicator lights
Interior
All new seats (front and rear)
NOS seat risers were used up front
Replaced seat belts and buckles
Floormats and steering wheel cover
Rear seat is a fold-and-tumble for additional space in the back
All new grade 8 fasteners were used when installing the equipment
All door and top seals were replaced
Drivetrain
Remanufactured Borg Warner/Tremec T5 5-speed manual transmission from JeepTransmissions. This is the same basic transmission that was installed in the old fox body mustangs, this is not the Peugeot unit that some jeeps came with.
Added a twin stick transfer case shifter -- this makes shifting from 2WD to 4WD and low to high range a breeze
Flywheel was resurfaced
Replaced pilot bearing
Replaced clutch disc
Replaced pressure plate
Replaced clutch engagement mechanism
Dana 300 was torn down and had new bearings and seals installed
Replaced aging U-joints with spicer U-joints to rebuild the drive shafts
Light weight forged aluminum wheels and General Grabber tires. I think this upgrade added 1 or 2 mpg by itself.
Braking
Replaced master cylinder
Replaced front hard lines
Replaced calipers and pads
Replaced all soft hoses
Replaced rear drums, springs and shoes
As you can see, i have invested some time and energy to maintaining this jeep through the time i have owned it. I have not modified it in any irreversible manner nor have i added any crazy lift kits. This is just a jeep at this point. It would be a great daily driver or a base for any serious off-road project. This jeep starts, runs and drives pretty well. The carb is tuned and it even works surprisingly well in the cold. The body has a few rust holes, but the frame and other equipment are all solid.
This jeep includes full-height steel doors and the original fiberglass hardtop.
Also available:
For an additional $100, i will include the original steel rims that came with the jeep. You could use these for mud or snow tires.
For an additional $300, i will include a set of new and never installed leaf springs suitable for a 4-inch lift. I bought these with the intention of replacing the entire suspension with an updated system, but in the end i never decided on a replacement.

Sunday Drive: Spying an automotive future of performance
Sun, May 13 2018I spy, with my little eye ... the future of the automotive world here in the United States. That pretty much sums up this week's Sunday Drive, in which we pull out the most popular stories on Autoblog of the previous week and try to draw some sort of conclusion as to what binds them all together. This week, it's spy shots, starting with one of the biggest and baddest muscle cars the world has ever seen: the Dodge Challenger Hellcat. The Hellish coupe gets a new hood for 2019 with dual scoops, but that's about the only meaningful change for the new model year. No matter. As long as it's packing 700-plus horsepower under those two hood scoops, all will be right with the world. Moving on, we take keep the performance angle but move it from the street to the dirt with a new version of the Chevy Colorado ZR2 that we think is probably called the Bison. We think it'll keep the high-tech suspension bits of the regular ZR2, but add expedition gear that may include a snorkel and a winch. Which, if true, is pretty dang cool. Keeping the truck theme is the 2019 GMC Sierra. There's nothing particularly noteworthy about the trim level in which the truck was spied, and that's what makes this specific example interesting. Base-model trucks almost never get much attention, but they sell in droves to workers who need an honest-to-goodness truck for work or play and don't care about bells, whistles, or massive chrome badges. And finally we have the 2018 Jeep Wrangler, which is on fire on the sales floor right now. But those are all V6-powered Wranglers flying off the showroom floor. Soon, a turbocharged four-cylinder engine option will become available, and now we know that it will return up to 23 miles per gallon in the city and 25 on the highway. That makes it the most fuel efficient Wrangler that Jeep has ever sold. As always, stay tuned to Autoblog this week for all the automotive news that's fit to publish. 2019 Dodge Challenger Hellcat with twin-scoop hood spied with no camouflage Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison caught testing 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 spied in base trim level 2018 Jeep Wrangler four-cylinder fuel economy revealed Spy Photos Chevrolet Dodge GMC Jeep Truck Coupe SUV Off-Road Vehicles Performance dodge challenger srt hellcat sunday drive
2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee recalled for wiring harness
Sat, May 14 2016The Basics: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling an estimated 32,267 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee models in the US over a wiring harness terminal that can lose its electrical connection. The Problem: An improperly crimped wiring harness may cause the vehicle's shifter to become locked in Park or Neutral once the vehicle is brought to a stop. Injuries/Deaths: None that FCA is aware of. If you own one: FCA suggests owners use their parking brakes when exiting the vehicle. Affected customers will be notified when they may schedule service. More information: An additional 2,095 vehicles in Canada, 538 in Mexico, and 2,472 outside the NAFTA region are also affected by this recall. Questions? Hendrick wants to put Jeep Wranglers back on the battlefield
Mon, Jan 25 2016The Jeep Wrangler could be headed back to the battlefield. According to reports, negotiations are currently under way with the US Army to adapt the iconical American off-roader for military use. The Wranglers would serve as inexpensive, lightweight, unarmored vehicles that could be more easily airlifted into remote locations than costlier, heavier, and bulkier options. The proposal is not being fielded by the Jeep brand itself or its parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, but by Hendrick Dynamics. The Charlotte-based offshoot of NASCAR racing team Hendrick Motorsports calls its modified Wrangler the Hendrick Commando. Instead of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 found in most US-market Wranglers, the Commando version employs the 2.8-liter diesel four built by VM Motori, modified to run on any type of diesel fuel or on JP-8 jet fuel to maximize its deployment versatility and comply with the Army's Single Fuel mandate of 2012. It would also support a variety of modular attachments for specific jobs, ranging from machine gun mounts and counter-mine rakes to radar arrays and advanced communications equipment. Hendrick says the Commando could also be deployed by helicopter or in cargo planes. And because it's based on a civilian platform, the Commando would also benefit from the latest advancements introduced by its manufacturer, the parts and service network already in place, and the thorough testing that's already gone into developing the Wrangler for civilian use. Hendrick has reportedly built 14 prototypes to date, including the two-door Commando 2 (based on the standard Wrangler), the four-door Commando 4 (based on the Wrangler Unlimited), and even a pickup conversion called the Commando S. It is not, however, the only company adapting Jeep Wranglers for military application. Israel-based Automotive Industries Ltd has been producing successive versions of the Wrangler-based Storm for use by the Israel Defense Forces and other militaries overseas since 1990. If the US Army awards the contract for the Commercial Off-the-Shelf (COTS) vehicle to Hendrick Dynamics, it would bring the iconic Jeep back to the battlefield where it got its start. The brand and its most prolific model trace their roots back to the Willys MB, launched in 1941 on contract from the US Army for deployment in World War II.
