History: This Jeep is the last of the true legacy of the “Real” Jeep (the original CJ series) built in the world. These vehicles are becoming more and more harder to find thus making it appreciate and more valuable by each passing year. This vehicle is better in every which way than any new Jeep that is sold on the market today. The solid true steel (not plastic) construction and engineering that underwent into these Jeeps consists of durability, toughness and easy maintenance that truly outdid itself. This holds true on all CJ model years produced.

Overall: Beige on Cream paint job with full hard top and hard doors and optional bikini top. All the upholstery and trim and carpet are factory original. No Rust on body or frame (California vehicle). This Jeep is a definite head turner with its impressive classic and fun looks. You will receive many compliments on the Jeep for its originality and impressive quality upgrades. A tough 4x4 and a nice cruiser!

Up for sale is this family owned super original 1986 Jeep CJ-7 Laredo Package 4X4 – Hard Top / Hard Doors / Bikini Top with just under 102,665 documented miles. This Jeep comes with the original Window Sticker with all the factory ordered options that was placed in the window by the dealer when it was bought. This Jeep has not been restored and still wears its original factory Beige / Tan Laredo and Jeep Paint. The power plant consists of the popular 4.2 258L 6cylinder engine backed with the more popular 5 speed transmission.

 photo IMG_0845_zps3a91d39c.jpg

(Decals were added at the dealership) and has all of its original factory Laredo package spice tan interior (seats, carpet, seat belts, dash pad, etc) that still looks brand new like a true newer Jeep should. The Jeep has been garaged and always kept in dry condition

This Jeep does have the most desired rare Dana 44 rear axle that was available late in the 1986 production year. The factory ordered original Radio still works and looks new as it did from the factory.

This vehicle had the Zbart rust preventative applied at the dealership before it was delivered which we do have the receipts.

All of the gauges are vibrant bright colors as they should be with a garage kept Jeep.

In 1982 they started using a 6th digit on the speedometer so you could tell the true mileage instead of it just keep rolling over. If you know Jeeps you will be able to tell that this is an original Jeep and nothing is being Bs'd about it.

If you've been looking for a high quality original collector Jeep CJ-7 then look no further! Most Jeep CJ's have been totally customized, cut up or just totally ragged and rusted out.

Here are the reasons why you will not see a nicer one:

Motor: The engine runs extremely strong and has been serviced at the Jeep dealership since new. Please pay close attention to the CA emission labels and Chrysler Jeep fuel injection upgrade that was added as an option when new at the dealership.

Purpose for selling:Do not have the space and need to sell it. I truly love this Jeep and it breaks my heart after all the time, effort and money invested in it to let it go. This is a fantastic deal if not a fantastic opportunity for those who understand and appreciate what this Jeep means to a collector.

ALL IN ALL: Perfect shape, great amenities, and a GREAT deal. I have invested countless thousands of dollars in this Jeep. There still remains many other details that I am probably forgetting to mention that has gone into this Jeep. I will gladly entertain and go over anything further with any buyer who is serious and would like to purchase the Jeep with me in person. I will stand behind this vehicle during ANY inspection and will personally guarantee this Jeep to hold true to the above facts by any ASE certified mechanic or vehicle appraiser of your choice as I have nothing to hide and everything to show!

Last Note:As a consideration, please let’s not waste each other’s precious time, therefore I ask that only serious e-bayers bid only. This means people with any negative history cannot participate in this auction. Please familiarize yourself with the terms and conditions of this sale before committing yourself. I believe that I have exhausted myself to try and educate you on as much as possible regarding this Jeep and ask request you respect the terms. Once you buy it, sale is simply AS-IS. This means that you cannot ask for a bid retraction or your money back once you have committed yourself by clicking on the “Place Bid” button since you are taking the opportunity away from another genuine buyer and will upset my auction. If you know Jeeps then you know what it worth and what they are selling for so save your time and mine with "Serious Inquiries Only"!

I feel I have exhausted myself in being as transparent and thorough as possible and will be most happy to anticipate any questions you may have.

An immediate $1000 commitment deposit will be due at the end of the auction by the winning party. Remainder I will accept cash or cashiers check.

Enjoy Your Bidding Experience and Good Luck !

Jeep Wrangler diesel likely after 2015 model refresh

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

We automotive journalists aren't always the right people to ask about whether a US-spec vehicle should or should not be offered with a diesel powertrain (hint: the answer is usually "YES"). But when it comes to the iconic, off-road-ready Jeep Wrangler, we aren't the only ones who have been clamoring for an oil-burning engine behind that famous seven-slat grille. To that end, it appears there's good news on the horizon, as Jeep CEO Mike Manley recently told Ward's Auto that the "Wrangler is on the radar to get (a) diesel."
"I'm confident that the Grand Cherokee will show just how large a demand there is for diesel, and I think what that will do is reinforce the need for us to target Wrangler as a vehicle that can take a diesel," Manley told Ward's. The most rugged of Jeeps is scheduled to get an overhaul around 2015-16, and the diesel powertrain will likely be introduced around that time.
This year alone, Chrysler will be adding a diesel engine to the Grand Cherokee SUV, as well as the Ram 1500 pickup and Promaster utility van.

Junkyard Gem: 1983 Jeep DJ-5L Mail Dispatcher

Wed, Jul 26 2017

When it comes to putting mail in boxes, a simple and reliable vehicle works best. Say, a zero-frills steel box on wheels, with right-hand-drive, a fuel-efficient four-cylinder engine, no-hassle automatic transmission, sliding doors, and a big mail-sorting table instead of a passenger seat. That's what the AM General Mail Dispatcher DJ-5 was all about, and these bouncy little trucks were everywhere for decades. Here's a late-production example, still in USPS colors, spotted in a Denver-area self-service wrecking yard. Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stayed this courier from the swift completion of its appointed rounds. Note the "Sonic Eagle" USPS logos on the doors; this became the official USPS logo in 1993, nearly a decade after the final Jeep DJ-5s were built. Plenty of these trucks stayed in service into our current century, and a few are still being used by private mail-delivery contractors in rural areas. During the American Motors era of Jeep DJ production (1970 through 1984), a bewildering assortment of engines went into postal Jeeps. This is a 2.5-liter GM Iron Duke four-cylinder; before that, DJ-5s came with Audi power (more or less the same engine used in the Porsche 924, in fact), AMC straight-sixes, and Chevy Nova four-cylinders. The 1984 DJ-5Ms ran the AMC 2.5-liter four-cylinder. The earliest DJs were equipped with three-speed manual transmissions, but the American Motors-built postal-delivery versions all had automatic transmissions. This one has a three-speed Chrysler Torqueflite A904, a weird engine/transmission combination that should help you stump your friends during car-trivia debates. Check out the ultra-bare-bones heater/ventilation controls! These trucks were badged as AM Generals, not Jeeps (I couldn't find a single Jeep label anywhere on this one), just like the original HMMWV. However, you'd have to be a real hair-splitter to refer to this as an AM General DJ-5 instead of just Mail Jeep or Jeep DJ-5. Next time you complain about your subcompact rental car lacking driver-comfort features, consider this vehicle. I had a few high-school friends who owned DJ-5s, back in the early 1980s when they were available for a couple hundred bucks at government-surplus auctions. The first thing civilian DJ-5 owners always did was tear out the mail-sorting table and replace it with a random junkyard bucket seat (or an aluminum lawn chair). These trucks were very noisy, very bouncy, and very slow, but they always ran.
