THIS 1980 JEEP CJ-7 RENEGADE WAS PURCHASED NEW ON MAY 28TH, 1980 FROM McCULLOCH BROTHERS JEEP IN DECATUR, ALABAMA BY A GENTLEMAN FROM NEARBY HUNTSVILLE, AL. HE OWNED IT MANY YEARS AND THEN SOLD IT TO ANOTHER HUNTSVILLE RESIDENT WHO OWNED IT FOR SEVERAL YEARS. IN 1999 IT WAS PURCHASED BY ITS 3RD OWNER WHO LIVED JUST SOUTH OF HUNTSVILLE. THE JEEP HAD ALMOST 90K MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE IN 1999. THE THRD OWNER OWNED THE JEEP FOR 13+ YEARS AND ONLY PUT 28K MILES ON IT. THIS JEEP HAS NEVER BEEN OUT OF ALABAMA! IT HAS NEVER BEEN EXPOSED TO ROAD SALT, HARSH WINTERS, ETC. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGED AND HAS NEVER BEEN DAMAGED. IT STILL WEARS ITS ORIGINAL CHESTNUT BROWN PAINT AND ITS ORIGINAL RENEGADE STRIPES AND DECALS! THE BODY IS NEAR PERFECT AND STILL MAINTAINS ALL OF ITS ORIGINAL STEEL BODY PANELS/TUB. YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE HOW SOLID THE TUB IS! IT HAS NEVER BEEN RE-PAINTED OR UNDERCOATED. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A TRUE SURVIVOR CJ THEN LOOK NO FURTHER. HERE ARE SOME DETAILS ABOUT THIS RARE FIND,

  • ORIG. 258 STRAIGHT 6 CYLINDER ENGINE
  • 4 SPEED TRANSMISSION
  • 4 WHEEL DRIVE
  • POWER STEERING
  • FRONT DISC BRAKES
  • TILT STEERING COLUMN
  • FACTORY TACHOMETER

THE PAINT AND BODY ON THIS JEEP ARE IN EXCELLENT ORIGINAL CONDITION. YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE HOW WELL THE PAINT STILL SHINES! IT REALLY IS BEAUTIFUL AND ITS HARD TO BELIEVE THAT IT IS 33 YEARS OLD! THE ORIGINAL RENEGADE DECALS ARE STILL NICE TOO. THE BODY IS NEAR PERFECT. THERE ARE VERY FEW DINGS AND VERY LITTLE RUST TO BE FOUND ANYWHERE. THE FRAME, BODY MOUNTS, FLOORBOARDS, ROCKERS, ETC. ARE ALL ROCK SOLID WITH NO RUST. WHEN YOU CRAWL UNDERNEATH THIS JEEP IT IS VERY OBVIOUS THAT IT HAS NEVER BEEN EXPOSED TO ROAD SALT, ETC. IT IS ALSO QUITE OBVIOUS THAT IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN THE MUD. IT IS SUPER, SUPER SOLID AND SUPER CLEAN UNDERNEATH. THE ONLY RUST TO BE FOUND ON THE JEEP IS UNDER THE FRONT WINDSHIELD ON THE WINDSHIELD FRAME. IT IS MINOR AND COULD EASILY BE REPAIRED IF DESIRED. IT DOES NOT REALLY AFFECT THE OVERALL SHARP APPEARANCE OF THIS CJ AND IS QUITE NORMAL FOR THESE 30 YEAR OLD JEEPS SO I HAVE DECIDED TO LEAVE IT ALONE. IT REALLY IS AN AMAZINGLY ORIGINAL AND CLEAN CJ. IT EVEN STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL SELLING DEALERS STICKER ON THE LEFT REAR OF THE JEEP! INSIDE YOU WILL FIND THE INTERIOR TO BE 90% ORIGINAL. THE DASH IS BEAUTIFUL AND THE ORIGINAL SPORT STEERING WHEEL IS STILL PRESENT AND LOOKS NICE. THE ORIGINAL PAINT IS STILL ON THE FLOORBOARDS FRONT AND REAR (NO RHINO LINING HERE) AND THEY LOOK CLEAN. THE ORIGINAL TAN DENIM SEATS ARE ALL THERE BUT THEY ARE SHOWING THEIR AGE. THE BESTOP SOFT TOP IS IN VERY NICE CONDITION AND THE PADDED ROLL BAR COVER WAS ADDED SEVERAL YEARS AGO BUT LOOKS NEW. OVERALL, IT REALLY IS CLEAN INSIDE. THE SPEEDOMETER STILL WORKS AS DOES THE TACHOMETER, WIPERS, TURN SIGNALS, LIGHTS, ETC. THE FUEL GAUGE DOES NOT WORK NOR DOES THE HORN.

THIS JEEP RUNS AND DRIVES WELL. THE 258 STRAIGHT 6 STARTS EASILY AND RUNS LIKE A TOP. IT DOES NOT SMOKE, RUN HOT, KNOCK, ETC. I REALLY HAVEN'T EVEN NOTICED ANY SIGNIFICANT OIL LEAKS EITHER. THE 4 SPEED TRANSMISSION SHIFTS WELL TOO WITH NO GRINDING. THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE WORKS JUST AS IT SHOULD TOO IN HIGH AND LOW RANGE. THE TIRES ARE LIKE NEW WITH LOTS OF TREAD REMAINING AND THE BRAKES FEEL  FINE. I HAVE SOME MAINTENANCE RECORDS FOR THE JEEP AND ALL OF THE ORIGINAL OWNER'S BOOKS AND DOCUMENTS. AGAIN, THIS IS A VERY NICE UNRESTORED (ALMOST UNTOUCHED) CJ. THESE ARE GETTING HARDER AND HARDER TO FIND AND ARE ONLY APPRECIATING IN VALUE.

FCA will pay you to hack its systems

Wed, Jul 13 2016

FCA is willing to pay you to hack its cars, as long as you tell the company how you did it. In an effort to enhance cybersecurity and prevent future incidents like the Jeep Cherokee hack last year, FCA announced it's working with Bugcrowd to find vulnerabilities in its vehicle software. Bugcrowd labels itself as a crowdsourced application security testing company. Users, or independent security researchers as Bugcrowd calls them, can find exploits or vulnerabilities in FCA systems. They then submit the information to Bugcrowd, who in turn supplies the info to FCA. The goal is to update systems and close any possible security breaches. FCA is offering bounties from $150 to $1,500 to any Mr. Robot types, with payment based on the size and severity of the flaw. FCA wants hackers to focus specifically on the UConnect website and the company's iOS and Android apps. No bounties will be given for anything outside the scope of those three things. Bugcrowd says it will not take any legal action against anyone who submits an exploit. While we think it's good that the company is taking steps to address these problems, it's not a groundbreaking maneuver. Other companies employ similar systems. Earlier this year, both Tesla and Uber announced that they're willing to offer up to $10,000 to hackers who find vulnerabilities in their system. For years, Microsoft has been paying hackers to find exploits. It also seems that FCA took its time to announce this plan, considering the Jeep hack happened nearly a year ago. If the partnership works, we can expect other automakers to make similar deals. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Jeep Grand One and Quicksand Concepts lead the charge to Moab

Thu, Mar 30 2017

Jeep's past, present, and future all share equal billing at the 51st annual Easter Jeep Safari in Moab. We're suckers for vintage Jeeps, so the all-new Grand One Concept really stands out among the seven vehicles that make up Jeep's conceptual take on the off-road event. It's based on a 1993 Grand Cherokee in a slightly early celebration of the model's 25th anniversary. Exterior mods include custom fender flares for clearance over 18-inch wheels and 33-inch BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain KM2 tires, trimmed front and rear fascias and what FCA is calling a "subtle wood grain" splashed on the vehicle's bodysides. An extended wheelbase ought to offer a bit more room inside, and a two-inch suspension lift will help when the going gets tough. No alterations are mentioned to the vehicle's 5.2-liter V8 or 4-speed automatic transmission. The second most interesting concept for Moab is the Jeep Quicksand. It's clearly Wrangler-based, but instead of a traditional rock-climbing focus, this one's built for the sand dunes. Power comes from a worked-over Mopar 392 Crate HEMI engine topped with an eight-stack fuel injection system that peeks through the hood. A six-speed manual sends the ponies to all four wheels, but with a unique twist: 32-inch BFGs in the front and 37s in the rear in what Jeep says is its first application of staggered tire sizes on a concept vehicle. A Warn winch concealed in a vintage-style Moon tank at the front is the finishing touch. The Jeep Safari Concept is all about letting the outdoors in while keeping the elements out. A translucent hardtop and four aluminum and clear vinyl doors are the most obvious changes from stock, and two rear seats have been angled outward so that their occupants get a better view outside. Dana 44 axles and a two-inch suspension lift come from the Mopar parts catalog, but the roof-rack-mounted drone and dash-mounted iPad are custom one-off touches. Power comes from a stock 3.6-liter V6 and five-speed automatic transmission. Perhaps more intriguing than all the custom bits and baubles, though, are what appears to be next-gen Wrangler bodywork. Take a look at the kinked grille, the outer slats of which are pinched by the headlights, and the shape of the rocker panel between the front and rear door. No, this isn't exactly a 2018 Wrangler hiding in plain sight, but it's certainly a nod toward the future. Jeep's Switchback Concept looks to be a rolling Mopar parts catalog.

FCA joining virtual CES with in-depth tours and Jeep Wrangler 4xe in AR

Fri, Jan 8 2021

CES is sort of, technically happening, but it won’t be the CES weÂ’ve all become accustomed to over the years. Automakers will be doing their best to participate virtually, assuming they decide to join in the festivities at all. FCA is one that will have a little nugget of tech to share with us. A few main experiences will be made available to anybody with a computer. FCAÂ’s main draw is meant to be “highly detailed interactive product tours” where you can get to know a number of vehicles in a virtual world and hear from a “virtual brand ambassador” throughout the tour. You wonÂ’t be able to sit in and crawl through the cars like a normal auto show for the public, but FCA is promising a rather immersive experience online. The guided tour through the cars and technologies will be available in 12 FCA vehicles, two of those being the new Jeep Grand Wagoneer Concept and Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio. FCA plans to offer in-depth talks about how it tests vehicles, too. There are demonstrations planned for wind tunnels, the four-post shaker, an advanced drive simulator and general performance testing. Additionally, FCA plans on providing more insight into Uconnect 5 and vehicle electrification systems. WeÂ’re guessing the latter will offer up details on the Wrangler 4xe. The plug-in hybrid Wrangler will also be the star of FCAÂ’s AR play at CES. Everybody will be able to scan a QR code on FCAÂ’s site, then have access to a Wrangler 4xe on their phone. YouÂ’ll be able to “put it” in your driveway virtually, change the colors and get up close and personal with the interior.  All of this will launch on fcaces2021.com at 9 a.m. ET on January 11 (official first day of the virtual CES show), so surf on over there next week if you want to check it out.
