No Reserve Auction 1979 Jeep CJ7 Golden Eagle - 1 Owner! This rare morocco buff colored original owner classic CJ7 Golden Eagle spent the majority of its life in Las Vegas, Nevada and Western Colorado which are both dry climates. The Jeep was recently given up by the original owner due to a foot injury making it difficult to drive a manual. I had the fuel drained and had it serviced last week adjusting the timing, carburetor, fresh oil change and spark plugs. It is running great now and drives very nice. I drove it to the mountains today to take photos with the hardtop on and it drove comfortably. This would make the perfect summer cruiser, weekend warrior or addition to your collection. Engine: 258 4.2L 6cylinder motor was rebuilt @ 100k miles. It runs great, starts right up (has a manual choke and needs a cable for it) and I do not notice any leaks on the pavement after driving it. The Jeep is has power upgrades including a 4 barrel Edlebrock carburetor, Clifford manifold, headers and dual exhaust. The cherry bomb mufflers give it a v8 sound. There is not a catalytic converter or smog equipment on the motor. Transmission/Transfer Case: 3spd T150 Manual Transmission that shifts great, whines a little and the clutch is very tight, responsive and does not slip. The Dana 20 transfer case shifts easily in and out of 4x4. 4x4 works great both in low and high ranges. Drivetrain/suspension: The Jeep drives smooth and has an upgraded suspension with Rancho shocks and leaf springs. The front leaf springs appear to be sagging a bit and could use replacement to match up the rear ride height. The Jeep is a non power steering unit and if I were to keep it I'd recommend adding power steering for easier driving. Interior Controls/Switches: Everything in the interior works except the factory tachometer and the windshield wipers are intermittent. The radio works but needs a center dash speaker to have sound. Paint/Body: The paint is a rare golden eagle color Morocco Buff with Golden Eagle Striping decals. It is original paint that looks great and super reflective, shows a lot of luster and is shiny. The rear drivers quarter was repaired at one point, the owner said the jeep was bumped in a parking lot and was professionally repaired. There is a small section on the drivers rear quarter where the paint is starting to flake off near the front of the flare (view photo). The front clip and fenders have sand chips. The hood on the inside has been painted black texture and on the exterior there are a few small ding dents. There are misc nicks, marks and blemishes to be expected for a 35 yr old Jeep. One of the rear tire carrier mounts broke off at one point and a support bar was added on back to strengthen the tire carrier. I just had a new front glass windshield replaced. Interior: The interior really nice, the front black aftermarket seats are new and very comfy. The interior floor has a smooth texture liner on and it appears to be in good shape with some minor flaking in couple spots. There is a little surface rust on the passenger floor but not thru. The Jeep is pretty close to rust free except the spot on the passenger door cut out and under the dash pad by the grab handle bar (view photos). Hardtop and Full Doors: The original hardtop is in excellent shape. A polish can be used to bring out the color of the hardtop and it appears the hardtop was repainted at one point. The rear tailgate on the hardtop has some dents, blemishes (view photos). The full hard doors are in great shape without any rust. The windows roll up and down easily (passenger side doesn't quite reach the top, stops about 1/3" from top. The passenger door has a dent where the vinyl is and both vinyl material on each door have scratches. The passenger side doesn't quite match the repainted hardtop. Tires/Wheels: Original 15x8 Gold Golden Eagle wheels with a black stripe. The wheels are in good shape with some chips and blemishes but still look sharp and original. The tires were purchased new in 1994 and need to be replaced. Although I have driven a couple hundred miles on these tires and the tread is 75%, I would highly suggest replacing them as they are dry rotting. The tire size is 31x10.50x15". Rust/Undercarriage: The only significant rust is on the passenger side by the door cut out (view photos), passenger front fender and passenger front floor have minor surface rust. The Jeep is very clean and the undercarriage appears discolored and has surface rust but no significant rust issues. Overall: This Golden Eagle will make a great daily driver, weekend warrior, summer adventurer or an addition to your collection. The CJ7 is used and 35 years old, so it may have blemishes I didn't capture on my camera or may have missed in my description. I did my best to illustrate the condition, I may have missed something so be sure to ask all questions you have prior to bidding or winning the Jeep. The Jeep is being sold as is, where is, without warranty or guarantees. I am not required for your state emission or safety inspections including Colorado. Included are a clean Colorado Title and bill of sale. Shipping: If you are out of state and need to have this Jeep shipped, call M&E Auto Transport #606-354-3643. The final payment must be received within 7 days of auction end time. Payment options include cash upon pickup, Electronic Bank Transfer or Wire Transfer. Ford Explorer, Jeep Grand Cherokee flunk IIHS passenger-side crash test
Tue, Jun 12 2018The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has uncovered major safety-related problems while crash testing a number of popular midsize SUVs. Among those that scored an overall rating of "poor," the lowest possible score, are the Ford Explorer and Jeep Grand Cherokee. Both SUVs showed a high risk of injury to a front passenger during the IIHS' passenger-side small overlap front crash test. This test simulates what might happen if a car or SUV strikes an immovable object, like a telephone pole, at 40 mph and with roughly 25-percent of its front width. "Although some vehicles in this group offer very good protection, in other models, the airbags, safety belts and structure showed serious deficiencies," says IIHS chief research officer, David Zuby. "In those SUVs, a front-seat passenger would be at risk of injuries to the head, hip or leg in a right-side small overlap front crash." In the 2018 Ford Explorer, the front of the SUV showed the structure was "seriously compromised" during both driver- and passenger-side small overlap crash testing, according to the IIHS. The lower and upper door hinge pillar showed intrusion levels of 15 and 13 inches, while the door sill itself was pushed inward 6 inches toward the crash test dummy. The IIHS states these results indicate a high probability that a front occupant would suffer injuries to their right hip and lower left leg. The 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee didn't fare much better. Not only did the Jeep exhibit 10 inches of intrusion at the lower door hinge pillar, the front passenger crash test dummy's head hit the dashboard through the front airbag. Worse still, the side curtain airbag didn't deploy and the front passenger door opened. The IIHS says there is a strong chance this would result in right leg injuries, along with the possibility of a serious head injury. Even vehicles that earned an "acceptable" in the small overlap front crash test showed definite room for improvement. The 2018 Honda Pilot, for example, showed good structural performance during the crash itself. But the front passenger crash test dummy's head slid off the deployed airbag and hit the dashboard hard, indicating a head injury might result in a similar real-world crash scenario. Two other SUVs that scored "acceptable" ratings included the 2018 Nissan Pathfinder and 2018 Toyota Highlander. Scoring top marks of "good," the highest rating, in these IIHS crash tests were the 2018 Volkswagen Atlas, 2018 GMC Acadia, and 2019 Kia Sorento.
Top horsepower-per-dollar cars in 2017
Tue, Feb 17 2015Bang for the buck. That quasi-scientific statistic is bandied about by motor heads everywhere from classrooms to barrooms, though the truth of the matter is that it's exceedingly complex to measure. A fair performance-per-dollar index would include something like cross-referencing MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) with point-to-point times on a track or driving route, which is obviously hard to do comprehensively. But, for the sheer joy of talking about cars and playing with a big spreadsheet, there's always the horsepower-per-dollar index, which is more straightforward, albeit hilariously flawed. There are vagaries even with this simple formula, of course: MSRP for vehicles can change at a moment's notice, to say nothing of the bottom-line shifting that happens with local deals or showroom negotiation. For this list we're running with the straight MSRP wherever possible, and as recently reported as we can get it. All the vehicles on this list are 2017 models, and all trims are reported where the lowest price and differing power levels intersect. Some choices were made for personal preference and some for sanity, avoiding things like all 48 trim levels of the Ford Transit, all with the same horsepower). If this list were a simple top ten, or even a top fifty, you'd be bored to tears with all the red, white and blue that is represented. Following perfectly with conventional wisdom, American cars really do lead the world where hp/$ is concerned. So, for the sake of variety (and the sheer joy of seeing a minivan 'win' one round of this thing) I've sorted out some top five and bottom five lists for broad power categories. Let's dive in. Less Than 100 Horsepower Okay, okay, this is hardly a category we'll grant you. But we've often tried to click off all the sub-100-hp cars on sale in the US, and making this list gave us an excuse. It also illustrates that none of these smallish vehicles bring cheap horsepower to the table - for that you'll need a motorcycle. The segment-leading Chevy Spark (above) asks just over $139 for each hp, and that Smart Fortwo Electric Drive has hp on sale for about the same price as its very distant family cousin, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (insert your favorite Smart joke here... we know you want to).
NHTSA investigates FCA for SUVs that roll out of Park
Tue, Aug 25 2015The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening a preliminary evaluation into the 2014 Dodge Durango and 2014-205 Jeep Grand Cherokee after 14 complaints of the SUVs rolling out of Park. An estimated 408,000 of them could be affected, if a recall is necessary. All of the current complaints submitted to NHTSA about the issue concern the Grand Cherokee, and the claims allege that the SUV can roll out of Park whether or not the engine is running. Some folks report that they check the indicator each time because the gear sometimes fails to engage. Among the 14 cases, there are five accounts of crashes and three injuries, including a situation with someone allegedly being rolled over. NHTSA's preliminary evaluations are meant to investigate "the scope, frequency, and safety-related consequence" of a reported problem. They don't necessarily lead to a recall. The unintended motion has occurred with both the engine off and the engine running. ODI has also identified EWR field report data related to the alleged defect. The model year 2014 and 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles are equipped with an electronic gear selector (shift-by-wire system). The gear selection is made by pressing the shifter-paddle forward or backwards; the shifter does not move along a gate path as with conventional gear selectors. A Preliminary Evaluation has been opened to asses the scope, frequency, and safety-related consequence of the alleged defect. The VOQs associated with the opening of this investigation are: 10733158, 10730952, 10683556, 10679497, 10583366, 10725429, 10715401, 10711893, 10676998, 10668651, 10662619, 10662308, 10605865, and 10567538.
