1968 V6 Cj5 on 2040-cars
Oregon City, Oregon, United States
1968 Kaiser Jeep CJ5. Dauntless 3.7l 225 V6, T-14 3 speed manual transmission, Dana 18 transfer case, Dana 27 front axle, Dana 44 rear axle. Open differential, 4.88 gears, 10" self adjusting drum brakes on all four corners. Looks to have had an 80's repaint, factory color was gold. Meyers hard top, with roll up windows. Wonderful driver, the little V6 (no smoke) makes enough power to break the rear tires loose on dry pavement, and the brakes will lock up the front wheels in a panic stop. Transmission shifts cleanly, and does NOT pop out of 2nd or 3rd gear (common in a worn out trans). With the exception of a couple of extra gauges, a chain clutch linkage, some reinforcements around the spring hangers on the frame horns, and what look to be Kelsey Hayes Renegade 1 wheels, its sits just as it rolled off the line in Toledo. Pictures document some of the small issues the body has. Both fenders have small cracks where they meet the grill, passenger side door is a little wavy on the bottom, factory spare tire location (pass. rear fender) shows some bubbling, hat channels are cracked in a couple of places, and 1 area looks to have been cut out by a previous owner (3-3.5"). Rear body mounts are still intact (uncommon).
Recent service/upgrades Engine rewired to firewall New rear wheel bearings Front wheel bearings repacked Locking hubs disassembled, cleaned and lubed Rebuilt parking brake Window tracks cleaned and lubed New upholstery, front and rear seats (Marine grade vinyl) New gear lube both axles Shipping CONUS, is included in the Buy It Now price. |

Chrysler recalls 88,888 Darts, Durangos, and Grand Cherokees for two separate issues
Fri, Nov 18 2016Chrysler announced a pair of recalls for the Dodge Dart, Durango, and Jeep Grand Cherokee. They're unrelated, as the Dart recall concerns windshield washer pumps, and the Durango and Grand Cherokee recall is for fuel rails. But, as Automotive News discovered, the number of cars involved in both totals up to 88,888 cars, which is rather bizarre. Breaking down the coincidental number, we first have 34,633 2016 Dodge Durangos and Jeep Grand Cherokees recalled because fasteners on the intake manifold can come into contact with the fuel rail on some vehicles. This could lead to a fuel leak, and a subsequent fire hazard. Chrysler believes only 30 vehicles will have this defect, but it's inspecting any that could have had the issue. The other part of the 88,888 cars recalled in total consists of 54,255 2016 Dodge Darts. The windshield washer pumps on affected cars could short-circuit the wiper system, disabling the wipers. Chrysler will notify owners of all vehicles, and will replace any faulty parts at no cost to the owner. Owners can also contact Chrysler's customer care center at 1-800-853-1403. Next-gen Jeep Wrangler to pack 300-hp Hurricane turbo four
Mon, May 9 2016Fiat Chrysler has been working for some time now on a new turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Dubbed "Hurricane," the engine is now said to produce nearly 300 horsepower. And its first application could be in the next-generation Jeep Wrangler. With that much power coming from such a small engine, the Hurricane would offer an even higher level of specific output than the 1.75-liter engine in the Alfa Romeo 4C – one of FCA's highest-stressed engines – far eclipsing the 4C's 120 horsepower per liter with 150 hp/l. By way of comparison, the latest 2.0-liter, four-cylinder version of Ford's EcoBoost engine produces "only" 245 hp (122.5 hp/l). The 2.0-liter turbo four in the latest Mercedes-AMG CLA45 and GLA45, however, produces 375 hp. To get so much out of so little an engine, FCA will utilize a twin-scroll turbocharger and variable valve timing. That could make it ideally suited towards a compact performance model, but according to Automotive News, its first application could be in the new the Wrangler. The larger 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 produces 285 hp, nearly as much as the Hurricane will. But with a smaller engine, an eight-speed transmission, and aluminum construction, the new Jeep will likely benefit from dramatically-improved fuel consumption. Related Video:
Jeep Wrangler likely to get aluminum body, will stay in Toledo
Mon, 27 Oct 2014Perhaps more than any other vehicle currently for sale in the United States, the Jeep Wrangler is viewed by purist fans as a vehicle that simply must maintain the status quo. In this case, that means a body-on-frame design, solid axles, a relatively large engine sitting up front and a removable top. It's always been that way, and it always will be.
Maybe.
According to the most recent reports, the next-generation Jeep will continue to soldier forth with a full steel chassis underneath its stamped bodywork. The biggest change, reports Automotive News, will be that said panels will be hewn from aluminum instead of steel, a seismic shift of a transition not unlike what's happened with the new Ford F-150. Because it won't be a unibody, the SUV will likely continue to be assembled in Toledo, OH as it (almost) always has been - the latter has been a source of heartburn in recent weeks for the Northwestern city in the Buckeye State.
