I am selling my gorgeous 2010 Jaguar XK coupe because I unfortunately need to get something with four doors.  The XK is very fun to drive and a day doesn't go by that I don't see people turning and watching it drive by.  To say it gets people's attention is an understatement.

The car has a beautiful porcelain exterior and caramel interior.  It has a 385 hp 5.0L V8 DOHC 32V engine, which is a significant improvement over previous models.  It has a six speed automatic transmission, leather heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel, navigation system, Bluetooth, Bowers & Wilkins audio system, laser etched windows, and just about everything else you can think of.  I have copied a list of the standard equipment for this model below.

I purchased this car from Jaguar Hartford (Hartford, CT) in April 2013.  (Please don't read anything into the short ownership, I'm just not at a point in my life where a coupe makes sense. And yes, I should have realized that a year ago).  The car was part of the Jaguar Select Edition Certified Pre-Owned program.  You can read the details on Jaguar's website, but in short to be considered for this program a car must pass "a rigorous inspection process with stringent standards for both mechanical and cosmetic condition."  As part of the certification process, Jaguar Hartford ensured the car had a clean history and was up-to-date on its maintenance requirements.  They also replaced anything that needed it, including all four tires (photo of one back and one front included), brake pads, and windshield wipers.  Since I purchased the car, I have kept it in my garage and driven less than 7,500 miles.  I had the battery replaced approximately one month ago.

Because the car is a Jaguar Select CPO, it comes with a transferable Jaguar Select Certified Limited Warranty, which offers "up to 6-year/100,000-mile coverage without deductibles.  Select Certified warranty coverage and roadside assistance start at the conclusion of the Jaguar New-Vehicle Limited Warranty, so you have continuous coverage.  In addition, the Jaguar Select Certified Limited Warranty stays with the vehicle even if it is sold, so the second owner can enjoy the same benefits."  Complete details are available on Jaguar's website.

The car has a few minor issues.  As you can see in the photos, the bottom right of the front bumper has a paint chip.  The underlying paint is also white so it is not very noticeable, but the shades of white are different so you can see it.  Also, three of the wheels have curb scratches.  I included pictures of each of the wheels so that you can see the extent of the scratches.

I have all of the manuals, navigation DVDs, and key fobs.  $500 deposit required within 48 hours.  Full payment via cash or cashier's check within 7 days.  The car is currently financed.  The buyer is responsible for vehicle pickup or shipping.

Jaguar deletes decade's worth of Instagram posts, fuels speculation

Tue, May 31 2022

Jaguar has made the enigmatic decision of deleting about a decade's worth of posts from its official Instagram account. The company then fueled speculation by posting three close-up images that show the XJR-9 (pictured), a prototype that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1988. The three posts are captioned "flash back," "genesis" and "prologue," respectively. The first shows part of the cover fitted over the XJR-9's passenger-side rear wheel arch, the second shows the top part of the rear end, and the third shows a center-locking wheel. What's odd is that there is no big anniversary linked to the car: the XJR-9 won its last race during the 1989 season and it stopped racing shortly after. This content is hosted by a third party. We know that Jaguar hopes to become an electric-only brand by 2030, so it's not unreasonable to assume that it might want a fresh start, but that's three years away. And, why mark the beginning of what's marketed as new era with photos of a car that was powered by a mid-mounted 7.0-liter V12? While this is pure speculation, we have two possible answers. First, a limited-edition version of an existing car inspired by the XJR-9 could be around the corner. The 2022 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans starts on June 11, so we could see it there. Alternatively, the Goodwood Festival of Speed will open its doors on June 23 and run until June 26; that's another plausible venue for the hypothetical unveiling. Second, the brand could be preparing to announce a return to endurance racing after a long hiatus. Porsche, BMW, Lamborghini and Cadillac are among the companies that will race in the upcoming LMDh category, which includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Jaguar ended Porsche's winning streak in 1988; is posting photos of the XJR-9 on Instagram a way to announce it's digging up the hatchet? Keep in mind that none of this is official. All we know for sure at this point is that the brand's SV division will reveal a new car on June 1, 2022. It posted a preview image on its Instagram account, which is separate from the main Jaguar account and whose posts are still up. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. Junkyard Gem: 2000 Jaguar S-Type

Fri, Jan 7 2022

My junkyard studies of Jaguars have focused mostly on the four-wheeled felines of the 1960s through 1980s, but plenty of more recent Jags may be found in U-Pull-type yards around the continent. Today's Junkyard Gem appeared in a Northern California boneyard last summer, and it had stories to tell. Once Ford took over Jaguar in 1990, the idea of a midsize Jaguar saloon to steal sales from the BMW E39 5 Series and Lexus GS seemed like an increasingly good idea, and so a name used on a mid-1960s version of the Jaguar Mark 2 was revived for use on a car built on the same platform as the Lincoln LS. Both the new S-Type and LS appeared during the 1999 model year, and both are fairly easy to find in your local Ewe Pullet today. American S-Type buyers could choose between a 3.0-liter V6 and various flavors of V8 (including a hairy supercharged V8 good for 400 horses in the S-Type R). This car has the V6, which was based on the Duratec out of the Taurus and made 281 horsepower. In theory, American S-Type (and Lincoln LS) buyers could get a five-speed manual transmission on V6-equipped 1999-2003 cars … but I've never seen a three-pedal S-Type/LS, and I've been looking hard. As you'd expect, European S-Type buyers could get both manual transmissions and diesel engines for the duration of the car's 1999-2007 production run. This car has a ZF six-speed slushbox. The interior looks to have been in good condition when the car showed up here, and the original manuals were still in the car. Some of the wood trim got a bit cracked in the California sun during the car's two decades on the road. That sure looks a lot like a Kia Amanti nose, doesn't it? The Amanti appeared a few years later and showed strong S-Type (and E-Class) styling influence. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Junkyard Gem: 1990 Jaguar XJ-S Convertible

Sun, Aug 12 2018

The Jaguar XJ-S sold for big money, cost big money to keep running, and depreciated hard once its edges got a bit rough. You'll still find examples of the XJ-S in the big American self-service yards nowadays, but this '90 is the first convertible I have found in many years. 4,715 1990 XJ-Ss were sold in the United States; I haven't been able to find a reliable figure for the number of convertibles, but it must have been small. That makes today's Junkyard Gem a real rarity— not as hard to find as a Ford Tempo All-Wheel-Drive, of course, but still a prize. Jaguar kept the 5.3-liter V12 in production from 1971 through 1992, and when it was running properly — which wasn't as often as XJ-S owners wished— it couldn't be beaten for smoothness. By 1990, Jaguar had switched from fuel injection by The Prince of Darkness to a system made by Magneti Marelli. This one is quite rough, and it shows signs of having been parked outdoors with the top down for a few years. Since you can buy nice examples for well under ten grand, restoring this one would have been a money-losing proposition. This content is hosted by a third party. In it, Bunny Lebowski reveals that none of her toes have been cut off by kidnappers; some suspension of disbelief is required here, because Americans couldn't buy the '90 XJ-S with a manual transmission. Maybe it's a gray-market six-cylinder car. The price tag on a new 1990 XJ-S convertible was a stunning $57,000, which comes to about $113,000 in inflation-adjusted 2018 dollars. Still, BMW shoppers had to pay $70,000 for a new 750iL that year, and that V12-powered machine didn't even have a convertible top. This content is hosted by a third party.
