1997 Jaguar Xk8 Convertible - Excellent Condition, 12k Invested, Mint on 2040-cars
San Diego, California, United States

I’ll be moving
back to Europe soon and have to sell my beautiful 1997 Jaguar XK8 convertible.
I hate to see her go, but shipping to Europe does not make sense so this is
your chance to own a gorgeous example of this soon-to-be classic in near mint
condition and the best color pattern out there. I am a private seller, not a
dealer, and have been using the car mainly for my daily 25-mile-commute from
San Diego to Del Mar, CA. I rarely used the car for short distances. It’s a 90%
Freeway car. It has always been garaged, never parked in the streets, and is a
California car from day one on. The car has
never been in an accident. Title is clear and registration is valid thru
November 2014. It is equipped with everything you could get at that time; power
seats, top, everything. It has a 6-CD-changer in the trunk. AC is ice cold and
has been recharged. Mechanics: The car is mechanically
sound. Engine and trans are perfect. There is no rattle, no weird sounds. The
engine idles and runs smoothly, has a beautiful and healthy sound, the
transmission shifts like on day one; breaks work perfectly. I have never
noticed any sign of overheating and oil pressure is perfect as well. The
steering is still very precise and the car is very stable; nothing appears worn
out. You would never think that you sit in a car with a mileage of 120k; it
drives more like 60k. Everything on the car works. The top is working flawlessly
and is absolutely watertight. You are welcome to check it in a car wash! The
previous owner (a gentleman in his 60s) and I took great care of the car, it’s
been pampered, never abused, and meticulously maintained. All the expensive
upgrades/maintenance work that need to be done on the first generation XK8’s
have been taken care of. The previous owner and I spent over $12,000 within the last 20,000mls/last
couple of years to keep it in this excellent shape it is in. It needs
nothing at the moment. I have all the receipts for everything to show. Some of
the things that have been done: -
Metal
timing chain tensioner upgrade – this is a must for every pre-2003 model
with the older 4 liter engine and is an expensive upgrade. Google it if you’re
not familiar with it or what will happen if you don’t change/upgrade it. -

Damper
front (both) -
Radiator

Power
steering cooler, supply hose, and high pressure hose -
Cam

battery Condition/cosmetics: The car
looks absolutely beautiful inside and outside. I gave her new paint in 2013
because the clear coat was coming off on the hood. At that point, I thought I
would stay longer in CA and since I wanted the car to be perfect I had the
entire car get painted. It was a professional paint job in the original color that
looks great. You have a 3-year guarantee on the paint. When you see the car, it
literally looks like an almost new car. There are no scratches and the paint
shines like only new paint can shine on a 17-year old car. There is absolutely
no rust on the car. The interior is still very nice, only the driver seat shows
some wear due to age, but nothing that couldn’t be detailed if you want
everything to be perfect; no cracks in the dash board (garaged entire life). See
photos of the car and video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZirnvnWPp-g The car
comes with a boot cover that matches the interior color. It is just not shown
in the pics. If you like
to see it, I’m happy to show you the car. It is located in Mission Beach in San
Diego, CA. Please do not contact me if you intend to offer me $5k. Don’t waste
my time and I won’t waste yours. I know there are XK8s out there you can get
for less than I am asking, but believe me you don’t want these cars since you’ll
have to spend a ton of money to get them where my Jaguar or similar offers
already are. It’s not a Toyota and getting them fixed is expensive. The best
investment you can make in the long run is to buy the better car that is just a
little more expensive when you purchase it. I’ve seen a lot of cars before I
finally picked this one. Please note
that I’ll be leaving the country on May 28 and the car needs to be picked on
the weekend May 24/25. Email me with any questions you may have. |

Jaguar XJ220 owners will finally be able to get new tires
Wed, Sep 7 2016Bridgestone announced today that the underserved Jaguar XJ220 used-car market would finally have access to new tires. Apparently a number of years ago, companies stopped supplying road tires for the XJ220 altogether. Don Law, owner and operator of XJ220 parts and restoration company Don Law Racing, brought the issue to the attention of Bridgestone. Now, Bridgestone and Don Law have assembled a team that includes the vehicle's original chief development engineer and test driver to create a modern tire for the 213-mph supercar. Bridgestone was also able to get access to pre-production car 004 for testing purposes. The company plans to have the new tire ready for the car's twenty-fifth anniversary next year. From the sound of it, the tire will likely outperform the original one, as Bridgestone's vice president of consumer OE tires cited the advancement of tire technology over the years when talking about the project. This whole project also raises an interesting question. Are there any other supercars that don't have original equipment tire options anymore? The XJ220 certainly wasn't the only supercar of the '90s with fat tires on relatively small-diameter wheels. Also, what will happen to the tire market for modern supercars? The Bugatti Veyron famously has special tires designed to handle its extremely high top speed. It certainly is an interesting first-world conundrum, and one we're going to keep tabs on. Watch Jaguar build its XJR Rapid Response Vehicle for Bloodhound SSC
Fri, Jun 19 2015Last month, Jaguar revealed an F-Type specially equipped to serve as a Rapid Response Vehicle for the Bloodhound SSC. Now it's rolled out a pair of XJRs kitted out for the same purpose. Set to debut when test pilot Andy Green drives one up the hill at Goodwood later this month, the Jaguar XJR Rapid Response Vehicle has been equipped by Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations division. As you can see, it's got a special livery of blue and orange to mimic the rocket- and jet-powered streamliner's own color scheme, and has been stripped out and fitted with a roll cage and specially crafted tools for the land speed record attempt. Of course, the 5.0-liter supercharged V8 carries over with its 550 horsepower to propel it to 60 in 4.4 seconds and on to a top speed of 174 miles per hour. Alongside the F-Type – which recently undertook a parachute deployment test – the pair of XJR Rapid Response Vehicles will be on hand in South Africa when the Bloodhound attempts to break the land speed record as well as the sound barrier on dry land. Check out the build process in the video. The two new additions to Bloodhound's fleet are the latest creation of Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division and are wrapped in a bespoke livery created by Jaguar Design incorporating the Bloodhound SSC colours.
Jaguar re-releases the toolkit the E-Type came with when it was new
Wed, Nov 6 2019Finding a complete, original toolkit is a rare treat for vintage car collectors. Jaguar's Classic division has its finger on the hobby's pulse, so it launched a reproduction of the toolkit placed in every new E-Type between 1961 and 1971. It lets owners put the final, factory-correct touch on their restoration. The British firm rummaged through its archives to find the toolkit's engineering records in order to make it to the exact same specifications as the original. The list of tools included in the bundle includes pliers, a three-piece screwdriver, a screwdriver used to adjust the ignition points, a feeler gauge, a grease gun, a valve timing gun, and an assortment of wrenches. They're all Jaguar-branded, and they come in a leatherette pouch that's just like the one buyers got when they purchased a new E-Type. It fits neatly in a corner of the E's trunk; the only thing missing is a rag to wipe your hands with when you're done wrenching. Jaguar doesn't offer one -- yet. Jaguar noted that only Series I and Series II variants of the E-Type came with the toolkit, and it went out of production nearly 50 years ago. This is a classic British car we're talking about, so you can safely bet the cost of a full, in-house restoration that the tools saw plenty of use. They inevitably ended up in mix-and-match toolboxes over the years. Sourcing a complete kit in good condition is consequently difficult, and expensive; some trade hands for nearly $6,500. Available online from Jaguar - Land Rover's classic shop, the reproduction is priced at 732 British pounds (about $950), so it's a bargain in comparison. Still, we wouldn't blame owners who decide to keep the toolkit for decorative purposes, and use much cheaper tools when wrenching gets serious.
