1987 Jaguar V-12 Xjs-c Cabriolet - Extremely Rare Limited Edition on 2040-cars
Mission Viejo, California, United States
One Very Special Cat! Created as successor to the legendary E-Type and the last model designed with input from the firm’s founder, the legendary Sir William Lyons, the XJS is actually more than just a replacement. It is a Grand Tourer par excellence, the finest mode of transportation for two people wishing to travel fast and in style. Produced for over two decades, from 1977-1998, a few special iterations of the XJS have already attained classic car status, among them the rare XJSC, or “Cabriolet.” Just 3,864 of these Landaulet-like, V12-powered Cabs were manufactured between 1983 and 1988, with a only a few hundred sold in the United States, in ’86 and ’87 only. It’s truly a dream come true for the serious XJS-C connoisseur! The ultimate in versatility, the XJSC can be configured as a Landaulet convertible, a Targa, or a Coupe. Additionally, the rear folding soft top can be replaced by a fixed roof panel with heated glass window. Seats, door panels, and console are covered with the finest, delightfully patinated hides from Scottish Highland bovines. These hides were most carefully selected, then vat-dyed in an antique wooden drum at the now-defunct, Edwardian CONNOLLY factory. Truly superior to the Detroit leather found in a pedestrian Lexus or Cadillac, the luxurious ambiance of a British high-end marque, such as Jaguar, Aston Martin, or Bentley is unmatched in the world. This car is well appointed with amenities such as power windows, mirror, door locks, telescoping steering column, and cruise control. All lights, switches, and controls work as Sir William Lyons intended. With a solid rust free body body and very good paint, this car is very deserving of a new home. Starts right up, the v-12 engine runs well, shifts smoothly and recently passed CA Smog Inspection. While not in pristine condition, its a very good base and with a little TLC this car could be easily brought back to pristine condition. Car is priced very appropriately for the current condition. The Good: Car is in very good running condition, body is straight and rust free, paint is in very good condition for its age and believed to be original. All lights and switches appear to be operational. No rips, cracks or tears in dash or leather - all wood is intact and rated at good to very good condition condition. Original wool carpeting is intact and in very good condition. The Bad: A/C blows cool, but not cold - needs re-charging, cruise control is non-functional as are the seat heaters. Headliner in rear roof needs replacing. Some plastic roof trim pieces are cracked and need repair or replacement. The rear soft top is not currently attached to the car, but we do have the frame which is undamaged, the canvas needs to be replaced but as you can see the old material is available and more than adequate to use as a template to have a new top made at a good upholstery shop. Stolen Jaguar E-Type reunited with owner after 46 years
Mon, 22 Sep 2014Barely six months into owning it, Ivan Schneider had his Jaguar E-Type stolen from outside of his Manhattan apartment in 1968. Now, 46 years later, the somewhat beat-up convertible has been recovered just before it was about to be shipped to a new owner in The Netherlands.
US Customs agents at the Port of Los Angeles found the car during a routine check, and they contacted Schneider to arrange returning it to him. When the feds found it, the E-Type was already in a shipping container ready to go to its new owner. The condition is hardly perfect today, including rough paint and a replacement door, but Schneider is ecstatic to get his classic back.
Understandably, the now 82-year-old never thought he would see his droptop Jaguar again. Schneider told the LA Times that he bought the E-Type for $5,000 after winning a case as a lawyer, and it was originally painted gray. Now, he plans to have to have the vintage convertible restored to its former glory in New York.
1965 Jaguar Series 1 E-Type Roadster shows what Classic Works can do
Tue, Jun 7 2022You might have heard that England's Queen Elizabeth recently celebrated 70 years with a four-day Jubilee throughout London. You might also have heard about the Platinum Jubilee Pageant that stretched nearly two miles long, featuring thousands of performers and a whole lot of cars. More than a dozen of the vehicular contingent came from Jaguar alone; the brand has a long history with the royal family, Jaguar Land Rover being one of four automakers possessing a Royal Warrant to provide motorcars to the queen. And Jaguar wanted to highlight this participant among its phalanx, a 1965 Series 1 E-Type Roadster restored by Jaguar Classic Works. It doesn't have any connection to the queen, but billed as a showcase of "the full capabilities of Jaguar Classic and ability to comprehensively update E-types," it could be taken as a small indicator of how much more the automaker could do for monarchs. A private customer went to Jaguar Classic Works with a request for an E-Type built the year he was born, the final product to be "relied upon for daily driving and be comfortable on Grand Tours while remaining authentic to the original." First, fixers fanned out, locating an example built two days after the new owner was born. Its pathetic condition posed no problem for the restorers in Coventry, who didn't leave anything alone during the 12-month build. Going by the before picture, technicians started by swapping the original left-hand drive for right-hand drive. They bored the original 4.2-liter engine to 4.7 liters and undisclosed power, "optimised for road driving." The mill's output is sent through a sport manifold and exhaust and a custom five-speed manual transmission. The gearbox is an in-house Classic Works production originally created for the E-Type 60 Edition that delivers "a smoother, quieter and more refined driving experience." Wider wheels and tires, and more powerful brakes, are bolted to an upgraded suspension. The cabin and sheetmetal received attention worthy of the mechanicals. The exterior is drenched in a custom blue based on the Union Jack that took months to perfect; in-the-metal pictures at Coventry Live show just how lustrous the paintwork is. The red interior recalls the red of British pillar boxes, their term for mailboxes.
Jaguar woos Tesla owners with $3,000 I-Pace EV discount
Wed, Aug 14 2019In a bid to kick start sales of its I-Pace luxury electric vehicle, Jaguar has set its sights at an unlikely target: current Tesla owners. The automaker confirmed to Engadget that it's offering a select group of Tesla owners $3,000 off the price of its I-Pace EV. The offer is also available to anyone who lives in a Tesla-owning household. Those consumers can combine the company's "Tesla Conquest" incentive with a $5,000 dealer discount and $7,000 allowance credit to get $15,000 off the I-Pace. With all three discounts, the base model costs $54,500, instead of $69,500. To top it all off, you don't have to trade in your Tesla to take advantage of the promotion. Instead, all Jaguar is asking for is proof of ownership and or registration. The offer is available until September 30th, 2019. Additionally, you can't combine the zero percent financing option Jaguar has offered since the start of the year with the current Tesla credit. It's no surprise to see Jaguar offer a major discount on the I-Pace, though whether it makes sense for the company to target Tesla owners is a different question altogether. Despite excellent reviews, including one from Engadget's own Roberto Baldwin, the company has struggled to sell its first EV. According to InsideEVs, this past July the automaker sold approximately 217 I-Pace vehicles in the U.S. In other words, it's hard to sell a $70,000 EV in a world where a $36,600 Model 3 exists. And yet Jaguar shows no signs of giving up. In July, the automaker confirmed that its I-Pace team is building an electric version of its flagship XJ sedan. This story originally appeared on Engadget.
