I bought this car from Texas. It is rust free and I had it painted 5 or 6 years ago. It pretty much sits in my garage except for an occasional 1/2 drive. Today I was showing it to a potential buyer and the engine started making a loud ticking noise. With a stethoscope it is loudest at the right hand cylinder head. I am sure this is the dropped valve seat. I do have a pair of heads and a tool to remove the heads. I bought these things years ago just in case. Guess it was a good thing I bought these. I have no time for a few months to work on this. So I decided if I can get my reserve I would just let the car go. If not, I will repair it over the winter and sell it in the spring.
Here is what I can remember doing. Ask me about anything else. Water pump Electric fans from V12s Replace A/C compresser and hoses Convert A/C to R134a Belts Hoses Fuel line hoses fuel line hose in trunk(boot) Coat tank while out of car with sealer Replace fuel pump John's cars GM alternator kit 700R4 transmission conversion from John's cars and Bowtie Overdrive Master Cylinder Recovered Headliner Re-dyed leather interior Re-dyed wool carpet installed dyna mat type sound deadener/insulation Ipod capable stereo New injector harness Painted 5-6 yrs ago There may be more. I will add if I think of it. I will not take PayPal because of the fees. Money order or bank check please. I expect payment within 7 days of the end of the auction. If you do pay with a personal check it has to clear before the car leaves my garage. I do not have a trailer or way to transport the vehicle. Transportation is up to you. It does run and drive but because of the noise I would not take a chance on major engine damage if the valve seat breaks. It does drive enough to be loaded onto a truck. My zip code is 06076. |

Lots of Land Rovers, Jaguars and Minis actually survived that near-capsized ship
Thu, Jan 29 2015Despite a severe list to starboard, many of the 1,400 cars and SUVs aboard the 51,000-ton Hoegh Osaka are currently being recovered in salvageable condition, with video showing some of the vehicles from British brands Land Rover, Jaguar and Mini, being driven ashore under their own power. The car-carrying vessel developed a severe list on January 3 and was intentionally run aground on a sandbar between England and the Isle of Wight. It has since limped its way back to port in Southampton, where damage assessments are being conducted on both the ship and its $53-million in cargo. According to the company that owns the car carrier, the ship itself only suffered minor damage in the incident, while Car and Driver is reporting that many of the damaged vehicles will almost certainly be scrapped. Still, the fact that there are vehicles, some of which appear undamaged (look at that Defender at 0:50!), being removed from the Hoegh Osaka needs to count as a net win. Dick Van Dyke escapes his flaming Jaguar on the 101
Wed, 21 Aug 2013Actor Dick Van Dyke was caught in a dangerous situation on a Los Angeles highway (who are we kidding, every situation on an LA highway is dangerous), when his Jaguar XJ spontaneously caught fire. The 87-year-old actor/comedian pulled to the side and attempted to call emergency services when another motorist pulled him from the car. There seems to be some confusion as to whether Van Dyke was passed out or merely calling emergency services.
According to the photos and video from NBC and The Today Show, the car was thoroughly cooked in the blaze and is now a total loss. After the incident, Van Dyke's wife, Arlene, posted that the actor was "fine," sharing a Vine video of the star, the car, and a few CHP troopers that were on hand. Later in the day, Van Dyke tweeted a photo of his toasted sedan, saying, "Used Jag for sale REAL CHEAP!!"
You can view the Today show segment on the incident as well as Arlene Van Dyke's Vine video, below.
Jaguar demanding customer data from reluctant dealers
Tue, 25 Feb 2014
Nearly every major business is collecting consumer data these days, and keeping that data secure has come to the forefront of many customer's minds. Jaguar Land Rover North America's decision to begin requesting more customer info from its dealer network appears unfortunately timed, however. If it had come a few years ago, it might have been ignored, but in today's climate of heightened awareness, a few dealers are pushing back. To put the showrooms in an even tougher position, JLR NA is threatening to deny quarterly incentives if they do not turn over the customer data, according to Automotive News.
JLR NA instated the nationwide plan, which it calls Single View CRM, on February 7, but according to Stuart Schorr, Jaguar Land Rover North America Vice President of Communications, the automaker has been negotiating with its dealers to institute the new program for over a year. Schorr tells Autoblog that no financial information is being shared, noting that such data is limited to customer details, including things like what vehicles they own and whether they have any pending service. The initiative is meant to "improve customers' and owners' engagement with the brand," he said. Also, the company is not accessing dealer data itself; instead showrooms are asked to enter the info into JLR's database.
