I have a very unique Jaguar here up for auction. It is restored to a very high standard. On the body, the chrome bumper blades are new in the rear, the windscreen is new and the areas at the corners of the front and rear windscreens have been repaired properly and are rust-free. These places are trouble spots for the Series 3 sedan. If looking at other cars, always check there for paint bubbles! The entire car has been resprayed and looks great. The wheels are the "Pepperpot" alloys which are not common for cars sent to the US.

On the interior, the leather seats have been redone with Connelly hides as original. All of the walnut trim had been redone as well, along with the headliner. It is perfect. I've even upgraded the steering wheel with the sport wheel from an XJ-S.

Mechanically, the car is spot-on and well sorted. The engine actually came out of another Jaguar sedan that I had which had been imported from Europe. That car got wrecked and the engine went into this car. The head gaskets have been replaced about 5-6k miles ago as well as the crank bearings. This euro-version engine has a bit higher compression than the US version at 9:1. Makes it a bit peppier. The gearbox is an original Jaguar 5 speed Rover LT 77 'box. Very few cars sent to the US were so equipped. The 5 speed really makes the XJ sedan a different animal, especially when you can cruise down the highway at 70 mph, only turning 2300 rpm. This gearbox was rebuilt by a shop in CT which specializes in these transmissions.
On the underside, the suspension bushings, steering rack bushings, shocks and springs have all been replaced. Brakes are great as well. No surprises with my cars. Everything works as it should, except the cruise control. When I did the 5 speed conversion, I never got the cruise working again because I didn't use it anyway.
The climate control works perfectly with cold air and warm heat. And yes, I replaced the heater core when the interior was removed!
Bottom line is I've got WAY more in the car than it will ever be worth, but I'm a Jaguar enthusiast, JCNA member who does things right because I love the marque. Get a nice Series 3 Saloon for much less than you would spend on a lesser car getting it to anywhere close this condition. I have tons on other pictures showing the resto in progress. Any questions, please ask. The car is open for inspection anytime.

Driving JLR Classic's factory-restored Jaguar Reborn E-Type

Tue, Jan 12 2021

COVENTRY, England – Moviegoers of a certain age will likely draw an association between the flag-emblazoned E-type “Shaguar” driven by Austin Powers and the carÂ’s image as an icon of Swinging-Sixties cool. For sure, the Brits cling to this era, recalling a time when everyone from The Beatles to the nationÂ’s car manufacturers were successfully exporting English swagger to the world. As the 60th anniversary of the E-typeÂ’s first appearance in 1961 approaches, attention is again focused on this golden age for British automotive engineering and JaguarÂ’s increasingly industrialized approach to leveraging its heritage. That takes the form of an impressive modern facility on the outskirts of the brandÂ’s hometown, where classic Land Rover, Range Rover and Jaguar vehicles are “Reborn” in nut-and-bolt factory restorations. This isnÂ’t a few old hands turning spanners in a dusty corner of the main factory — instead customers can go direct to Jaguar Land Rover Classic Works, order the Reborn vehicle of their dreams and sit patiently for the spectacular return on their considerable investment. In the case of the Reborn E-type driven here, that starts at around $400,000, though that figure can rise considerably if youÂ’re fussy about the vintage of the original car and want one based on a more sought-after early model. For the real fanboys Jaguar is even offering Drivsix matched pairs of restored E-type 60 Editions to celebrate the coupe and roadster that were famously driven direct from the factory to the Geneva unveiling just in time for Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons to reveal it to the world. That even Enzo Ferrari was moved to acknowledge its beauty adds to the romance of that moment, and explains why Jaguar is so keen to celebrate it. But can the Reborn E-type do justice to such myth and legend? And is factory original really preferable to the restomods built by independents like Eagle? Wheel time in a gorgeous Reborn 1965 4.2 Fixed-Head Coupe on an authentically grey and overcast English day is my chance to find out. The E-type may have earned EnzoÂ’s respect for its looks but, ever the wily engineer, he will likely have been paying closer scrutiny to what was under those slinky panels. Jaguar had demonstrated it could beat the worldÂ’s best in sports car racing with multiple Le Mans wins in the 1950s. As the new decade dawned, it looked to have ambitions to do the same in showrooms with a product that made MaranelloÂ’s finest seem like old tech.

Seven-figure cars highlight day one of RM's Monterey auction

Sat, 17 Aug 2013

RM Auctions is one of several houses holding auctions during the Monterey weekend, and Friday night's festivities got quite pricey. Seven-figure vehicles were not at all uncommon during the first day of the two-day event, with the 1953 Ferrari 375 MM Spider, seen above, crossing the block for $9,075,000.
Other big earners included a pair of rare Ferraris, a 1950 166 MM Barchetta and a 1955 750 Monza Spider, which took $3,080,000 and $4,070,000, respectively. Outside of the red Italians, a 1939 Mercedes-Benz 540K Special captured $7,480,000 while a stunning, color-appropriate 1955 Jaguar D-Type took $3,850,000. We've got images of these vehicles, and a few other stunning examples of last night's auction, in the gallery above.
Thought it seems impossible, tonight's auction is expected to see even more high-dollar action. The winner of the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours, a 1928 Mercedes-Benz 680S Torpedo Roadster is expected to command over $10 million. Also crossing the block will be a car we reported on a few weeks back - a supremely rare 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spyder. One of only 10 in the world, it's expected to take anywhere from $14 to $17 million when it hits the stage tonight.

Jaguar Land Rover releases a vintage-looking infotainment system for classics

Fri, Sep 7 2018

Jaguar and Land Rover have a new option for owners of its older vehicles: a touchscreen infotainment system. Much like the Porsche classic infotainment head unit released a few years ago, this one tries to blend in with its interior surroundings. Five distinct designs of these "Classic Infotainment Systems" are offered in an effort to have an option that fits well with the interior of any particular car offered by Jag or Land Rover over the past few decades. Chrome and black options are available for Jaguars, while brushed aluminum and black are the choices for Land Rovers. The infotainment system has navigation with 2D or 3D maps and Bluetooth audio. Sure, you don't need to stream Spotify in a 1970s Land Rover, but now you can. Jaguar says it'll offer much higher quality sound with a 4 x 45 watt output from the single DIN head unit, but you might need to upgrade those ancient speakers to actually take advantage of it. There's no mention of satellite radio like Porsche's unit offers, unfortunately. It is a radio though, so we get both AM and FM functionality. Jaguar says it's "compatible with negative earth vehicles" (newer vehicles use negative grounding systems) and retails for $1,796 before taxes in the U.S. You can buy and have it professionally fitted at an "authorized" Jaguar or Land Rover dealer if you'd like as well. It's easy to shake your fist at such a device for classic cars, but this head unit tried hard to be an elegant piece — we're still not sure about slotting it into an old E-Type though... Here are U.S. specific model fitments: Jaguar XJ40; XJS; XJ Series 3 Sedan Land Rover Defender 90, 110; Range Rover Classic (93-96); Discovery 1 (94-98); Freelander (97-04) Related Video: Featured Gallery Jaguar Land Rover Classic Infotainment System News Source: Jaguar Jaguar Land Rover Technology Infotainment
