1969 Jaguar Series 2  2+2 Coupe in good condition with very good provenance for sale. The mileage on the car (84,396) is original and has a clear Actual Mileage title.

Matching Numbers Car: Engine # 7R 36424-9  Body # 4R36809 Transmission # KE32178 (as found in the car, also as stamped on the cars Commission Plate and as entered on the original documents with the car)

We obtained this car from its local Colorado owner who purchased the car in 2009 and who was the second owner of the car.

Documentation:

There is much documentation with the car. We tried to capture this in one of the photos but here is the list of the documents with the car:

- The Original Window Sticker from British Leyland Motors Inc. (Importer); the Distributor (Continental Cars Dist. Inc., St. Louis Mo.), the selling Dealer (Continental Cars, Florissant, MO); Port of Entry New Orleans, LA, shipped by rail to the Distributor. Color: Dark Blue, Model: 2+2 Auto., Serial & Engine Nos. (see above). List Price $ 6,145.00; Factory Equipped Options: Whitewall Tires $ 35.00; Chrome Wire Wheels $ 140.00; Heated Rear Window $ 45.00; Air Conditioning $ 495.00; Misc (Marine Ins., Anti-Freeze, Freight, etc.).: $ 175.00; Total Amount $ 7,145.00.

- The Original Purchase Agreement from the Dealer to the Original Owner dated July 8, 1970. Sale Price of $ 5,595.00 including dealer installed radio.

- Finance Agreement, Original State of Missouri Safety Inspection, Tire rotation records, etc. all in the Dealer Envelope with the above listed documents.  There is also a series of annual State Inspection Reports, Registrations, etc. showing that the original owner took the car from Missouri to California and finally to Pennsylvania before selling the car in 2009. It is rare to have this detailed of a history on a car, especially on one that is now 45 years old (young)!

Just as rare are all the original documents specific to the car which include:

- The 12 page full color Jaguar Sales Brochure with all the XKE specs and models for 1969 (inside there is  a great shot of a model wearing a fur vest, mini skirt, high boots and a great 60's hair-do posing next to a 2+2 Coupe in a forest setting! - good stuff!)

- The Operating, Maintenance, and Service Handbook in its vinyl pouch embossed with the Jaguar logo

- A List of Standard Equipment sticker

- The Service Booklet ("Jaguar Passport to Service") with the dealer stamps and service dates for all scheduled service through the first 7,540 miles

- The Sales and Service booklet listing all US and Canadian Jaguar dealers and service centers in 1969 (wonder how many are still in place under their same names??; none of the 4 listed in Colorado are)

- The Jaguar "Delanair" Air Conditioning System Operating Instructions card

- The large, original fold out poster of Routine Maintenance, Recommended Lubricants, Exploded View Lubrication Chart, etc. for the car.

All of these materials and documents are original and in very good to excellent condition.

Condition of Body and Paint:

As you can see from the photos the car itself is in fairly good condition overall (we would rate it a # 3 car). The body is fairly straight, no large dents/dings, and very little rust other than on some surfaces but we did not find anything critical. The underside of the bonnet is very good for the age of the car and the latches inside the car that open and lock down the bonnet both work properly; the chassis appears good as well. The car was repainted to very close to its original dark blue color at some point. The paint and the car present well, especially from a short distance, but the paint quality is sub-standard (like there is dust trapped in it in spots); it would benefit from a good wet sanding and buffing. There appears to have been body repair between the drivers door and left rear wheel well; there is also a patch panel behind the left front wheel well at the leading edge of the rocker below the battery. The color of the body is very attractively contrasted with the grey leather interior; all set off very nicely by its original optional chrome wires (there are 5 including the spare) and original size red line tires (near new Vredestein Sprint Classic 185HR15's). The passenger door, bonnet, and rear hatch all open, close and latch properly with good gaps. To open or close the drivers door you need to lift the door a little as the door hinge is bent; there is however a good used replacement hinge with the car. The passenger door handle does not unlock with the handle button or key but needs to be opened from the inside. The bottoms of the doors, sills, rockers, boot floor all appear to be good/solid.

The glass on the car is all in good condition but the rubber molding around the windshield and doors and windows is pretty deteriorated and dried out. There is new rubber around the rear hatch. All lights appear to be working properly; the plastic lens on the left front parking light is cracked.

The chrome on the car is generally very good (front and rear bumpers were re-chromed in past 5 years, new AMCO bar at rear bumper) except for some pitting on the small chrome trim pieces found aft of the doors at the belt line on both sides and on the chrome surrounding the front parking lights beneath the bumper.

Upgrades, Accessories:

The prior owner made several upgrades to the car including installing a Petronix electronic ignition distributor and coil (original distributor is with car); had the radiator re-cored and installed high capacity fans to eliminate any over heating when driving in stop and go traffic; carbs rebuilt, new water pump and hoses; new fuel pump; new brake and slave cylinders; new exhaust system. There is a full parts catalog for the car from XK's Unlimited which has the details on most of these upgrades.

There are two workshop manuals with the car; one printed Haynes manual and one on CD.

Condition of Interior:

The interior is in good condition. The front seats appear to have been nicely re-done to colour match the original leathers; there are two small tears/scuffs on the drivers seat; there is a wear crack on the top of the center armrest and the corners of the center armrest are torn; the dash top is cracked at both ends by the doors and there is a small spider web crack in the dash above the dash instrument pod. All the gauges (except for the clock) and switches seem to work properly. The door and trim panels are good. There are a few wear spots thru the vinyl covering on the interior door sills. Carpets and headliner are OK; there is one small tear in the headliner above the center arm rest and there is new correct type headliner still in the box to come with the car. The rear seat and luggage compartment floor are in good condition. Some of the adjustable AC plastic vent pieces are loose from the dash but are with the car; the AC is not functioning.

The boot has the original jack, Thor hammer, wrench in its original bag; there is no toolkit with the car.

Mechanical Condition:

The car starts readily and runs and drives well. The only apparent mechanical issue is that the front transmission seal drips some fluid; it still drives and shifts OK but it does drip. According to a recent Jag tech article this seal will harden from lack of use and may stop leaking when driven frequently and the car is run at normal operating temperature for a period of time. This is likely the case as the car has not been driven much the past few years. The article also mentioned perhaps adding some transmission sealer fluid but we have not done this. We did get an estimate of $ 600.00 to replace the seal from a local shop that specializes in older Jaguar repairs; this was for mostly labor and the estimate was limited to replacing just this seal.

Specifications:

The XKE 2+2 was created for the North American market with features such as its automatic transmission, air conditioning, power steering, power boosted four wheel disc brakes, with lavish comfort for two and occasional seating for two more. The wheel base of the 2+2 was increased by 9 inches over the standard coupe to 105 inches. This allows for much better egress, and more interior room as the rear seat can also be folded forward to extend the luggage platform to 52.5 inches. Standard equipment included 3 point front shoulder belts; two speed wipers; map reading light; back up lights; 4 wheel independent suspension, limited slip differential, rack and pinon steering, adjustable steering wheel and headrests; fully adjustable leather bucket seats; etc.. But perhaps the best "standard feature" is its twin overhead camshaft 4.2 litre XK engine; a wonderfully powerful engine producing 246 bhp at 5,500 rpm and 263 ft lbs of torque at 3,000 rpm; 9:1 compression ratio; twin Zenith-Stromberg carburetors. In and of itself this engine is a beautiful piece of machinery and it sounds like no other through this cat's dual exhausts! One may not be able to "buy class" but you can buy a car that exudes it.

Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy: New EV, new series — Jaguar's going racing

Tue, Sep 12 2017

Luxury carmaker Jaguar is teasing the 2018 launch of a five-seat electric sports car based on its I-Pace concept as its first battery-electric vehicle. The Indian-owned automaker released images of the sports car as part of its announcement that it will launch the world's first international production EV race series in 2018. A performance SUV version of the I-Pace, previously reported and presumably based on a concept revealed late last year, is also planned for late 2018. Jaguar has said it plans to electrify all new models after 2020, part of a wave of similar announcements as governments in England, China and elsewhere have announced plans to eventually ban the sale of gasoline or diesel cars. In its announcement, Jaguar said only that the race series would "support the launch" of the I-Pace five-seater. View 7 Photos At the Los Angeles auto show last year, Jaguar said its concept I-Pace crossover SUV would have a 220-mile range from its 90-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, designed and engineered entirely in-house. The Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy series is a support series for the FIA Formula E championship and will exclusively feature up to 20 all-electric Jaguar I-Pace racecars across 10 races in cities including Hong Kong, Paris, Sao Paolo and New York. The racecars will be built at the Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations in Warwickshire, England. "With the launch of the Jaguar I-PACE eTROPHY, we have strengthened our commitment to battery electric vehicles, international motorsport and Formula E," Gerd Mauser, chairman of Jaguar Racing, said in a statement. "As a British team, we are proud to announce today the launch of the world's first production battery electric vehicle championship." He added: "Ultimately this innovative series will enhance the technology in our future electric vehicles and benefit our customers." Jaguar says it will release technical specifications, race calendar and costs for the I-Pace eTrophy in 2018. 2017 Jaguar XE

Thu, Apr 30 2015

You've seen this movie before. Topple the BMW 3 Series has gone more rounds than The Fast and The Furious and The Transporter combined. But like any good cinematic retread, this time it's different. For starters, the latest installment is a zombie flick. Born from the ashes of Ford ownership and the failed X-Type, the 2017 Jaguar XE is coming to save us from the somnambulant, undead Bimmer. Think Army of Darkness with luxury sport sedans, and you'll understand what we're going for. Okay, the plot is only based on a true story. The reality in the automotive world isn't as dramatic as most car journalists would like you to believe. But the XE is hugely important for Jaguar's desire to increase global production. You're looking at the future best-selling model. It's built on an all-new body structure that forms the basis for all the brand's upcoming sedans. The smallest, most affordable Jaguar also launches with a new engine family, built in a new factory in England. The XE arrives stateside in early 2016 with two available engines. A 2.0-liter diesel from the new Ingenium lineup is the entry-level model. Above that is the supercharged 3.0-liter V6 familiar to the Jaguar and Land Rover lineup. A turbo 2.0-liter gas engine will come in below the diesel at a later date, with an optional manual transmission. The XE versions on launch will offer rear- or all-wheel-drive. Pricing information is yet to be revealed. Until then, just assume the XE will mimic its competitors for price and content. We spent most of our time driving the 35t with R-Sport trim, but check back for a driving impression of the diesel in a few days. As we reported in our prototype drive of the XE earlier this year, this car has incredible steering feel. It's the supernatural aid in the XE's monomyth if any film buffs are still paying attention. The electrically assisted system ranks in the hall of fame with the rack on the current Porsche 911 Carrera. Lightly weighted, the loads build up in the steering wheel like it's wired to strain gauges on the sidewall of the front tires. It's not just good programming that makes the XE steer so well, although that's a big part. The rest comes from the chassis. Jaguar engineers claim the double wishbone front suspension uses lessons learned from the F-Type. The rear part of the car's quick responses comes from a multi-link setup Jag calls integrated link. A body 20-percent stiffer than the current XF also contributes to sharp reflexes.

2023 J.D. Power APEAL Study shows new-car customer satisfaction scores slip

Thu, Jul 20 2023

J.D. Power survey results have been slightly up but mostly down for automakers this year, literally. In February, the 2023 Vehicle Dependability Study showed an overall decline compared the 2022 a month before the Customer Service Index Study did the same. The trend reversed in June with a better overall score on the 2023 U.S. Electric Vehicle Consideration Study than in 2022, then declined again the same month on with a lower overall score on the 2023 Initial Quality Study. The declines continue with the 2023 J.D. Power U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, overall satisfaction among the 84,555 respondents down two points overall compared to 2022, to 845 out of 1,000 points. Because last year's score dropped compared to 2021, this year marks the first consecutive decline in the study's 28-year history. The study tries to "[measure] owners' emotional attachment and level of excitement with new vehicle" after 90 days of ownership by asking new owners to rate 37 attributes in 10 areas around the vehicle, such as the feeling they get when they hit the accelerator. Satisfaction with nine of the attributes is down this year versus last, fuel economy the only segment to show better results with 15 points more satisfaction. Styling and infotainment are big drags on satisfaction. Responses to new car exterior looks tallied 888 points, down from 894 last year, the largest drop in this year's study. On the digital side, less than half of those surveyed this year said they prefer using a manufacturer's built-in infotainment. From 70% of respondents in 2020 preferring to use a manufacturer's in-house software to play audio instead of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, that's 56% in 2023. Going all-in on Google appears to have the best effect. J.D. Power said that vehicles with both Google's Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS) and Google Automotive Services (GAS) "score higher in the infotainment category than those with no AAOS whatsoever. AAOS without GAS receives the lowest scores for infotainment of the three categories."  Frank Hanley, senior director of auto benchmarking at J.D. Power, said, "Despite the technology and design innovations that manufacturers put into new vehicles, owners are lukewarm about them. While innovations like charging pads, vehicle apps and advanced audio features should enhance an owner’s experience, this is not the case when problems are experienced.
