Offered for sale, here on Ebay, by KURT TANNER RESTORATIONS, is a 1966 Jaguar E-type 2+2 coupe. This car was recently discovered in the San Diego area of California and was purchased from only the second owner. He purchased the car in the early 1970's and held the car in his possession for over the past 40 years! There are a few receipts in his name dated around the mid 70's... It is a very well-preserved, honest, original car that has a full matching numbers drivetrain. The factory air conditioning equipment in the engine compartment was removed early in it's life, but was saved and is included with the sale of the car (picture). It is a very good running and driving car having benefitted from much recent mechanical work. This included a full braking system rebuild (front and rear calipers rebuilt in stainless steel, new master cylinder, servo, flex lines, pads, etc.), ignition system tune up, radiator rodding out, new cooling hoses, a complete fuel system service, new tires fitted and balanced on very nice chrome wheels, and an engine oil/filter/lube. As a result, the car starts quickly on the button with no smoke, has excellent oil pressure, and runs and drives very well with good acceleration and pickup. The gearbox shifts well with no issues. Some tappets could use some fine adjustment. But a very good driving car overall with no known mechanical issues. This Jaguar left the factory in it's original color of Primrose Yellow with black trim. The engine compartment, framerails, and spare tire area still show signs of the original paint. The body on the car is very good to excellent overall, with only a couple scrapes and dings. All of the panels open and close well. The modest repaint is showing it's age in some areas with an area lifting in the middle of the hood and on the hatchlid. The chrome and glass appears to be decent and original. The interior trim on the car is completely original and unrestored. Original leather to the front and rear seats, original carpets, door and quarter panels, Jaguar seat belts, etc. The headliner material has been removed. Some items could be saved and revived, others replaced. The dashboard switches and instruments appear functioning and all original. Overall, a very nice, usable, matching numbers Series One 2+2 for easy improvement. This car offers the desirable and original triple carb setup mated to the 4.2 engine, covered glass headlamps, and other attractive Series One features. It is a very good, honest car with over $3700 recently spent on mechanical improvements to make it roadworthy. This car is located in Southern California and is sold with a clear California title. It can be viewed by appointment. $27,900. KURT TANNER RESTORATIONS. 909-920-9221, shop. 909-241-1051, cell. |

Jaguar celebrates 60 years of the E-Type with six pairs of restomod cars
Fri, Mar 12 2021Jaguar is celebrating 60 years of the E-Type — which was known as the XK-E in the United States — by giving 12 cars a full in-house restoration that includes a handful of 21st-century updates. Sold exclusively in pairs, the six coupes and six convertibles are inspired by the cars shown in Geneva during the model's introduction in 1961. Developed to replace the XK150, the E-Type was presented to the public and the press on March 15, 1961, at the Geneva auto show. Two examples made the trek from England to Switzerland: a gray coupe wearing registration number 9600 HP and driven by publicist Bob Perry, and a green roadster registered 77 RW put in the hands of official Jaguar test driver Norman Dewis. Both cars were driven to the event; the coupe arrived in Switzerland minutes before it was scheduled to make its debut, and the roadster was rushed to Geneva the following day. Jaguar chose not to re-release either car. Instead, it will paint the six coupes in a special shade called Flat-Out Grey, and it will give the six convertibles a coat of Drop Everything Green. It pointed out that both colors were created specifically for the 60 Edition models, and that neither will be used on another car. Edition-specific emblems created by Jaguar's design department appear on the hood and on the fuel cap, among other parts. Jaguar E-Type 60 Edition View 11 Photos Sitting in the cabin is like traveling to the 1960s. The driver faces a wood-rimmed steering wheel with drilled spokes (and a non-original 24-carat gold horn button), analog gauges, and an array of switches on the dashboard. Coupes receive Smooth Black leather upholstery, while convertibles get Suede Green leather. Don't look for power windows or automatic headlights. You'll need to manually roll down the windows and turn on the headlights. There's tech if you look, however. Jaguar concealed a modern infotainment system with satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity, for example. While that's available on any of the resto-modded E-Types the firm builds, the 60 Edition cars stand out from with an engraving of the route from Jaguar's headquarters in Coventry to Geneva, Switzerland, on the center console. It's created by hand in 100 hours by Johnny Dowell, who also goes by the name King Nerd. On the coupe, the engraving reads "I thought you'd never get here," words spoken to Perry by Jaguar founder Sir William Lyons after he arrived in Geneva.
UK electric motor maker YASA expands production 50-fold for EVs
Thu, Feb 1 2018LONDON — British electric motor manufacturer YASA said on Thursday it was increasing its production capacity from 2,000 to 100,000 units with a new factory to tap into growing demand from carmakers for greener technologies. Automakers are racing to build greener vehicles and improve charge times in a bid to meet rising customer demand and air quality targets but Britain lacks sufficient manufacturing capacity, an area the government is building up. Last year, the government picked a site in central England to house a new automotive battery development facility, which will develop the processes required to manufacture the latest battery advancements. On Thursday, YASA, based near the English city of Oxford, said it had raised another 15 million pounds ($21 million) as part of its expansion. "Our customers are looking to adopt innovative new technologies such as YASA's axial-flux electric motors and controllers in order to meet the needs of the rapidly expanding hybrid and pure electric automotive market," said Chief Executive Chris Harris. The firm exports 80 percent of production and has worked with companies including Britain's two biggest carmakers Jaguar Land Rover and Nissan as well as Aston Martin. JLR will decide this year whether to build electric cars in its home market, previously citing factors such as pilot testing and support from science and government as pre-requisites. Jaguar C-X75 James Bond movie car is going up for auction
Wed, Oct 30 2019Back in 2010, Jaguar presented a show-stopper of a concept: the C-X75. Besides its curvaceous body, it boasted a wild hybrid powertrain with a gas turbine engine providing electricity. Sadly, it never reached full production, and it only reappeared as a villain car in the James Bond film Spectre. But between the concept and the film, there were a few production prototypes built as part of a planned 250, and a few stunt cars. Auction company RM Sotheby's is offering one of the latter cars. This Jaguar C-X75 stunt car is actually the first stunt car built, according to the auction house. The stunt cars were built by Williams Advanced Engineering, the same company that has been competing in Formula 1 for decades. The stunt car has little in common mechanically with the concept, or the five prototype cars Jaguar built with four-cylinder hybrid powertrains. Under the skin is a custom tubeframe chassis and long-travel rally car suspension. Powering it is a version of the Jaguar F-Type's V8 engine with a dry-sump oiling system. It's coupled to a sequential manual six-speed transmission and a rear transaxle with a mechanical limited-slip differential. Brakes are AP Racing units and are adjustable from the cabin, and they feature a hydraulic handbrake. One consequence of this stunt car's burly underpinnings is that the cockpit is more like that of a race car, with a small Momo steering wheel and toggle switches and controllers all over. But this unsophisticated cabin has played host to some famous folks. The car was used for getting shots with the actors, with a driver's seat mounted to the top. Since this was a villain car, the actor in the driver's seat was Dave Bautista. The car also was featured at the Mexico Grand Prix to promote the movie, and Felipe Massa took it for a test drive. RM Sotheby's hasn't given an estimated price for the car, but expect it to be expensive. If you have the means, it will be crossing the block at the auction company's Abu Dhabi sale on November 30. The car will come with a bill of sale, a movie call sheet and a specification sheet from Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations. We're not sure that this car would be able to be titled in the U.S., but we bet it would be just as fun, if not more so, on a race track, rather than public roads.
