Attention Jaguar Collectors and Enthusiasts. Documented with Special Packages never before offered in a convertible. This Edition is extraordinary and a must own by collectors or enthusiasts.

This is 1 of 3 Midnight Black XKR Convertibles built early in 2012 model year as part of a trial, with a unique set of options that have never before been used on a convertible and will not enter full production - in other words this 1 of 3 Midnight Black XKR Convertibles that is utterly unique and will remain so. The trial was successful, proving the factory was capable of building the combination, but it was ultimately decided not to offer the option combination for the 2012 model year. Which means these options cannot be ordered, even as Special Order, on any other 2012 XK or XKR convertible.

The option pack these XKR Convertibles were built with is called the
"Speed Pack". Jaguar does not offer the Speed Pack as a stand-alone option on any car in the US (for 2012MY it is only available as part of the Dynamic Pack on XKR Coupes), and it had never before been built on a convertible. Essentially the Speed Pack gives these cars the aerodynamic body kit seen on the 2011 model year XKR175 limited edition Coupes - the side sills, rear diffuser, and larger rear wing, all of which are shared with these 3 Midnight Black convertibles. The XKR convertible has a supercharged, direct-injected 5.0-liter V-8 churning out 510 HP with a six-speed paddle/automatic transmission and is the only transmission offered with an electronically controlled rear differential. The XKR convertible can rocket from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, with 100 mph arriving in just 8.7.

Another aspect which makes this car unique is the Midnight Black paint - this paint was only used for a few months of 2012 model year production following the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The factory that produces much of the paint for Jaguar was inside the nuclear exclusion zone, so until the crisis was brought under control in Japan Jaguar temporarily reintroduced past colors into the paint palette, including the Midnight Black.

The elegant face of the XKR convertible becomes purposeful and aero-optimized, with slits and holes all over the hood; a low, carbon-fiber chin spoiler; and large gashes on each side of the fascia designed to control airflow around the vehicle sides. Rocker-panel extensions and lightweight, 20-inch wheels beef up the XKR’s profile, while the rear end gets a stand-up rear spoiler with a carbon-fiber inlay and a bumper contoured with a de rigueur diffuser. Four fat exhaust tips handle the engine’s exhalations. Jaguar claims that the alterations reduce overall lift, which a driver is certain to appreciate when traveling anywhere. The XKR convertible also rides lower, and chassis revisions include a new steering knuckle that increases camber stiffness. Spring rates front and rear have been increased, and the programming for the electronic active dampers is unique to this car.

Jaguar reveals upcoming XE's InControl infotainment system [w/video]

Tue, 19 Aug 2014

Jaguar has been keeping busy lately, rolling out both the new Lightweight E-Type and F-Type Project 7 at Pebble Beach this past weekend. But the more important project for the British automaker is the upcoming new XE.
Coventry has been releasing a steady stream of information and teasers on its new 3 Series challenger, and has now revealed details of the new infotainment system that will debut in the XE. Called InControl, the system centers around an eight-inch touchscreen and integrates with smartphones (running both iOS and Android) through the InControl Remote and InControl Apps. The system will allow drivers to pre-set the climate control for each day of the week, lock and unlock the doors and start the engine remotely.
It'll also include an on-board wifi hotspot to connect multiple devices and a laser-based head-up display that you can scope out in the graphic above as well as the video and press release below in advance of the XE's upcoming debut in London on September 8.

2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR First Drive

Fri, Sep 2 2016

Jaguar's F-Type SVR has a special new exhaust. I drove the car in Monterey, California, where there's this tunnel right in the middle of town. You see where I'm going with this. The pipes attached to the "normal" F-Type R's supercharged 5.0-liter V8 is a flatulent riot, one of the most flamboyant wind sections in modern exhaust-dom. And then Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations, the group of madmen responsible for the Project 7, comes along and rips it all out for the SVR. The room is needed for a rear diffuser, see. So a new system is fabbed using two fancy lightweight alloys, Inconel and titanium. A pair of mufflers sprout where one used to be. More. Better. Louder. Yes, all of that. Geez it's loud. And there's this tunnel, remember. Enter it and lift from the throttle, and it sounds as though there are some kids stowed away in the trunk tossing handfuls of M-80s out the back. "Big report" is what it'd say on the box if the F-Type SVR were a firework. It's dramatic, perhaps excessive. Scratch that – it's definitely excessive. This F-Type is only the second full-production effort from Jaguar Land Rover's SVO, the first being the Range Rover Sport SVR, and so it's also the first Jaguar SVR ever. Whereas that Range Rover combines quickness with surprising cross-country abilities, the F-Type SVR has a singular mission: Go faster. And so, with a tweak of the electronic limiter and some other fiddling, voila!, suddenly the coupe can reach a top speed of 200 mph. The convertible is not far behind at 195. Although there aren't many places in the world where you'll actually want to probe those max velocities, the engine's 575 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque are plenty to risk your license. The SVR adopts many of the engine improvements that hoisted the Project 7 to the same power level but bests that very special car's torque figure thanks mostly to new intercoolers. Remember, the regular F-Type R is only good for 550 hp. Only. What a world we live in. Aside from the added power, this is much more of a range-topping special trim than it is a significantly different model. Like the R, the SVR comes only with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Operating it in manual mode is more pleasant, in part because the paddle shifters behind the wheel are made out of aluminum instead of plastic like on other automatic F-Types.

Aston and Jag from James Bond Spectre have at it

Sun, May 3 2015

Daniel Craig hasn't made a bad James Bond film yet. Spectre is his next step into the iconic role that's due to hit theaters on November 6, and it doesn't look likely to ruin his streak. Still, that's a long wait for such an exciting movie. If you're willing to possibly spoil just a little for yourself, a new featurette shows part of one of the big car chases right now. From what we've seen so far, the chase through Rome in Spectre has earned a good amount of screen time. While the reason for it in the plot is a mystery, that doesn't really matter anyway. What's important is that the scene stars Bond in the Aston Martin DB10 and a villain played by Dave Bautista in the now supercharged V8-powered version of the Jaguar C-X75 racing around the Italian capital's tight streets at night. This clip gives a glimpse at some of the work necessary to get the difficult filming completed. We've seen some of that effort before, though, when footage of the preparation for one shot leaked out. Craig reportedly sustained a pretty bad bump on the head during the shooting, and an earlier rumor also suggested that Bond might get behind the wheel of a Fiat 500 at some point in the scene.
