Do you employ your car, or ENJOY your car?

Here for your consideration is a 1997 XK8, Anthracite (black) exterior, black convertible top, "mocha" interior - kind of a light brown. 108,000 miles. I have owned it for three years.

You can do your research on this car, when new, it cost $68,000.00. If you have never driven one, then how to explain... I also have a Dodge Magnum. The Jag, not just little bits of wood trim, but the whole dash is this burled walnut plank that runs door to door. The wood is also on the steering wheel, shift knob, power window controls... and what is not covered in wood is covered in leather - door panels, dash, center console. The feeling is so rich, calming even, not the expanse of cheap smelly plastic on the Dodge. Sitting in the Jaguar, yes, it still feels like a car that I could never afford new.

Likewise, if you have never owned a convertible, then you probably cannot appreciate the feeling of motoring around town with the sun and sky and wind surrounding you, almost motorcycle-like, and in this car, peering over the humps of the front wheels, with the door line lower than a Mini Cooper, well, it is so slick, like a luxury go-cart. The top is full power with no latches to work; just one button or key turn, even when driving (under 15 mph).

For a car of its age, this Jaguar is in good condition. I think of it like a sexy older lady, a bit worn around the edges, but a thrill to be with, and still turns heads. Here is the rundown on what is an honest evaluation.

Most everything works, it is a daily driver, and it still gets complements at gas stations and traffic lights. The top is in excellent shape and retracts with no problems. The engine uses some oil but not excessive, it just passed emissions test (June 6th 2013) with incredibly low numbers for a car of this age. I get about 26 MPG on the highway, and though it is not the fastest car on the road, it is quicker than most.

There are some paint flaws, and it looks like the right front was repaired at some point and the hood poorly re-painted. The front bumper is peeling. The wheels are the revolver style that were chromed at some point and show some corrosion. The headliner needs replaced as it is dirty, though I have not tried to clean it (I have this sourced for $115). The front seats need recovered (also sourced with original leather for $650 plus another $300 to install). I have a set of color coordinated neoprene covers on the way that I was going to put on until I could afford to do the leather.

It has some annoying things - rear brake light warning light, I fiddle with the bulb and it goes away. Not sure if it is a wiring problem or socket. Sometimes under hard manual shift I get a transmission error, which always clears after restart, so I pretty much leave it in "drive." I think it is a shifter gate problem and not in the transmission itself.
When I run it daily or several times a week, there is no oil leakage, but when it sits - and the seals dry out I assume - there is a leak. Someone said that British cars are meant to leak.

There is only one key and no manual or records. When I bought it, CarFax showed some 8 or 9 previous owners, all southern California.

All said, this is a most excellent daily driver that still out looks and out performs nine out of ten cars on the road today. You can get into this at less than the cost of a used KIA, and have so much more FUN in it!

Engine and Transmission: 4.0 V-8
top speed 155.00 mph
60-0 braking 136.00 ft.
0-60 6.10 seconds
skidpad 0.86 g

Electric Jaguar I-Pace wins Car of the Year in Europe

Mon, Mar 4 2019

GENEVA — The electric Jaguar I-Pace has won the Car of the Year award in Europe, the first time the storied brand has been bestowed the prize. The four-wheel drive vehicle edged out the Alpine A110, which is not a mass production car, after they tied for top honors in the first round of voting by dozens of automotive journalists. It is the first such award for Jaguar, a British brand now owned by India's Tata Motors, which touted the new platform used for the I-Pace. Monday's presentation of the award, which was established in 1964, marks the unofficial start of the 89th edition of the Geneva auto show. The five other finalists were the Citroen C5 Aircross, Ford Focus, Kia Ceed, Mercedes-Benz A-class and Peugeot 508 . The finalists were winnowed down from an initial list of 60 models, and road tests began in October. Final tests were two weeks ago at a test center outside Paris. A potential sales generator, the award is organized by seven European magazines and awarded by 60 journalists from nearly two dozen countries. Last year's winner was the Volvo XC40 compact SUV.Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.

2024 Jaguar F-Pace Review: Fun, pretty and luxe, the big Jag's better with age

Tue, Mar 26 2024

Pros: Engaging to drive; good looks; high-class cabin; crazy-good sport seats; big cargo area and generally more spacious than compact rivals Cons: Pricier than compact rivals, smaller than midsize ones; base engine acceleration a touch off the pace; convoluted climate controls The Jaguar F-Pace has now been around for quite some time – eight years have passed since we first got behind the wheel in far-flung Montenegro. While most vehicles would be well past their best years and already replaced by now, the 2024 Jaguar F-Pace is an example of something that has actually gotten better with age. Its infotainment technology is up to date and far easier to use than anything Jaguar Land Rover has offered before. Its cabin quality and design are better, the engines have been upgraded, and we even think the design tweaks made a few years ago improved upon an already knockout design. In many ways, the F-Pace is reminiscent of another small SUV thatÂ’s thrived past the usual best-by date: the Porsche Macan. It too is fun to drive, with exceptional steering, sharp handling and compelling performance, especially from the six- and eight-cylinder models. They are both for SUV shoppers looking to enjoy their time behind the wheel (and look good doing it), and are OK paying more money than other compact luxury SUVs. There is one major difference, though: The F-Pace is not only much bigger than the Macan, itÂ’s bigger than most of those other compact luxury SUVs. ItÂ’s closer to a midsize, with the closest size comparable being the Lexus RX. That grants it a spacious back seat and a surprising amount of cargo space. We were honestly not expecting to like the F-Pace as much as we did during a recent test drive of the P400 R-Dynamic S. It seemed likely that all those years in between times behind the wheel wouldnÂ’t have been kind. Far from it. We like it even better, and think those in the market for an SUV in its price range should give it a shot. Interior & Technology   |   Passenger & Cargo Space   |   Performance & Fuel Economy What it's like to drive   |   Pricing & Trim Levels   |   Crash Ratings & Safety Features What's new for 2024? Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can now be connected wirelessly. Jaguar also trimmed the F-Pace lineup down to three versions, all tied to a different engine. This results in the base price ballooning by $8,000 since the new base trim level is the R-Dynamic S.

V12-powered Jaguar E-Type Series 3 the restomod treatment from UK firm

Thu, Jul 1 2021

As Jaguar tries to figure out its future, a growing number of aftermarket companies are reinventing its past. British restoration shop E-Type UK is the latest company to announce a restomod program for the popular sports car released in 1961. It's working with later Series 3 models, which is a little unusual, and it leaves no part untouched. E-Type UK starts every Unleashed project with a donor car; it doesn't build an E-Type from scratch. After strengthening the basic platform, it bores out the V12's cylinders to increase its displacement to 6.1 liters, 800 cubic centimeters more than stock. Additional modifications, like an electronic fuel-injection system and a free-flowing exhaust system, boost the engine's output to 400 horsepower, and a five-speed manual transmission sends the cavalry to the rear wheels. Four-piston front brake calipers ensure the Unleashed stops as well as it goes. With the engine finished and tuned, E-Type UK turns its attention to the chassis. It fits the E-Type with technology the original model could only dream of, like fully adjustable shock absorbers. Wire wheels are standard equipment, they fit the car's sleek profile well, but their diameter increases slightly to 16 inches to clear the bigger brakes. Designers restyled the bumpers, the grille, and the exterior emblems, though the changes are relatively subtle, and they added LED headlights to give the E-Type the visibility of a modern car. Inside, the only limit is the thickness of the buyer's wallet. Anything is possible; the options include different types of leather upholstery and various trim options. Heated seats, LED lighting, a push-button ignition, Bluetooth connectivity, and a surround-sound system are among the equipment added by E-Type UK to encourage future owners to drive their Unleashed often. All told, each build requires at least 4,000 hours of labor, which partially explains why pricing starts at GBP325,000 (around $447,600 at the current conversion rate) before the cost of a donor car enters the equation. For context, that money could buy you two examples of the Lamborghini Huracan Evo and a garage to keep them in, a small plane, or 447 examples of your favorite $1,000 econobox. And yet, we doubt E-Type UK will have a difficult time finding clients. Restomods are a big trend in the industry, some are even Volvo-based, and they're never cheap.
