2003 Jaguar S- type R

Specially Designed and Crafted... One of One!

We have had the pleasure of handling a number of unique, certainly "one of a kind" vehicles, for Bob. He is in his mid-70's and as a life long designer, engineer and "hot rod" car guy from the Detroit area, his mind is always busy thinking of cool and distinct projects.

This Jaguar R type was born from the idea that he always loved the 1967 Jaguar Mark II, however, wanted a car he could enjoy without the concerns of the older "mechanics" of the 1960's Jaguars. His first thought was to convert an original Mark II to a modern drive train and electronics... What you see here is the result of a very different project! We think it's stunning and, we promise, you will have the only one like it!

All enhancements are cosmetic, this Jaguar remains "stock" under the skin. And for those who know a little about performance, did you know that if you ran the 1/4 mile against a factory built 1965 GTO with a tri-power and 4 speed, you would win the race by 4/10th's of a second? (Information from magazine road tests.) This 400 horse power Jaguar is no kitten! Excerpt from a Car and Driver road test (quoted below) refers to the 408 ft. lbs. of torque and the ZF six speed automatic transmission with the 4 piston Brembo calipers for added stopping power.

The 19" Continental Extreme Contact tires (255 40 ZR rear and 245 ZR front) are mounted on chromed alloy rims.

The 1967 Jaguar Mark II grill and tail lights were special ordered from England. The rear deck and tail areas were reworked and crafted to give it a vintage Bentley -Jag look. The doors are power remote operated (note the custom "shaved" handles) as is the deck lid. The paint is PPG Urethane case coat with six coats of clear.

A multiple year project, the finishing touches were completed last fall and it has been in storage all winter.  There are no chips, scratches, or dings from driving or storage.

From "Car and Driver":

2003 Jaguar S-type R

Under the hood is a thoroughly revamped edition of Jaguar's AJ V-8, stroked to 4.2 liters and enhanced with a new intake manifold, revised heads, and continuously variable (instead of two-position) intake-valve timing. These and numerous other refinements combine to improve emissions and boost power output by about seven percent, to 300 horsepower in the S-type 4.2 (many of the same improvements were also extended to the 3.0-liter V-6). For the R, an Eaton blower is bolted on, spinning five percent faster than the one in the XJR and XKR and exhaling 13.1 pounds of boost per inch through twin air-to-water intercoolers.

The only transmission offered on the R is ZF's stunning new six-speed automatic, fitted with exactly the same gearing as it gets in the BMW 745i. This is the state-of-the-slushbox art in terms of shift quality and gear spacing...

The S-type R's controls require little or no acclimation. Steering effort builds in direct proportion to available grip, and the chassis's response to the helm is completely predictable. Broad-shouldered Continental tires provide astonishing grip in stoic silence (after all, if smoky burnouts are taboo, squealing turns are surely unthinkable). A quiet scrubbing sound is heard as the tires relinquish their grip, at which point the stability-control system intervenes just enough to prevent a disaster.

Four-piston Brembo calipers at each corner inspire plenty of confidence, too.

Jaguar releases Desire short film starring F-Type and Damian Lewis

Wed, 24 Apr 2013

After stoking the hype with a theatrical-style trailer, Jaguar has finally released the full-length version of its mini-movie, Desire, to help kick off the new 2014 Jaguar F-Type. Starring Homeland actor Damian Lewis across from the lovely Shannyn Sossamon, the film has been turned loose on YouTube after an initial debut at the Sundance London film and music festival.
Shot in Chile's rather breathtaking Atacama Desert, Desire is described by the producers as being "A story of betrayal, retribution, passion and greed." Lewis plays the lead role of Clark, a high-end car delivery guy (great work if you can get it), who runs into an unexpected, sexy mystery when shuttling the lovely F-Type to the middle of nowhere. Who could have guessed?
We won't spoil any of the not-exactly-serious 13-minute plot for you; scroll down below to see for yourself if the theatrical pomp and circumstance is worthy of Jag's newest roadster.

Jaguar practiced the E-Pace barrel roll - wait, how do you practice a barrel roll?

Tue, Jul 25 2017

Jaguar launched the E-Pace compact crossover by literally launching it into a barrel roll. But to get to the point where the company could do the stunt in front of the press naturally took plenty of preparation and planning, and the company documented much of it in the video above. It turns out that the early stages of preparing the stunt are about as entertaining as the stunt itself. The video spends a little time showing some of the computer modeling and designing of the stunt, but most of the video covers the practice runs done with a test car. Jaguar set up its prototype offset ramp for initiating the roll, and had a massive airbag set up for the test car to land in. And early on, to make sure the stunt driver wasn't hurt, they rigged up a Land Rover Evoque with autonomous driving equipment to do the first runs. Later the stunt driver took a few turns. The testing resulted in flips and tumbles you've only seen with Hot Wheels cars. It's so strange and fun to see a full-size car launched this way. Once the team finally had the jump pretty well dialed in, the stunt driver was able to test it launching from ramp to ramp, and then eventually do it in the production E-Pace at the crossover's reveal. Jaguar fully reveals the $71,445 XF S Sportbrake

Wed, Jun 14 2017

Jaguar has finally revealed the 2018 XF Sportbrake without any sort of camouflage or subterfuge. It does look pretty much the way we expected, though; an XF with a longer, but still low and sleek roof. That's a good thing in our book. That nice, long roof also allows for an impressive 31.7 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, which we should point out is just a bit more than the far less attractive BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo revealed yesterday. The Jaguar XF Sportbrake also comes with plenty of performance since it's only available with all-wheel drive and the supercharged 3.0-liter V6 that produces 380 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. Jaguar claims this powertrain will get the wagon to 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. Jaguar also includes self-leveling rear suspension on the Sportbrake. Inside, you'll find the same interior as the XF sedan, with one key difference: a vast, fixed sunroof. Though it's a bit disappointing that it doesn't open, the unbroken view of the outside is beautiful. But if you don't like the view, you can close a sun blind over it, and you don't have to touch a button. You simply wave your hand past a sensor and it will open or close. Though novel, we can see many incidents of accidentally opening or closing it while reaching for, say, the overhead map lights. The Jaguar activity key wristband is also available, along with large screens for instruments and infotainment. The sun blind gesture controls, activity key, and additional screens seem to be options though, as they aren't included on the base S model that starts at $71,445. That's nearly a $3,600 upcharge over the sedan. However, you do get a gorgeous car with more space. It's also barely more expensive than that aforementioned BMW. If you do want those fancy tech options, you can option them in, or have them added as part of the First Edition Sportbrake, which starts at $73,095. Related Video:
