 Once in a blue moon something truly outstanding comes along ... this is that 'something'. If one word could describe this 1973 Jaguar XKE 2+2 it would be 'stunning'. This is no feral cat. The most luxurious of the XKE range, the 2+2 was built for comfort.
Add to that, superior condition and the best color combination available - 'British Racing Green' with 'Biscuit' leather interior - and you've got an investment quality classic car you can be very proud of for years and years. Price trends for all XKEs have been continually rising for years. The consensus among automotive journalist is that they fully expect them to proceed in that direction - UP and UP. In 'Brit Speak' thie Jaguar has been 'well sorted'. An investment that you can take daily pleasure from.  Wouldn't this Jag look good sitting in your driveway?  Interspersed with actual photos of this exceptional XKE 2+2 are a few period adverts ... for both the information they contain and a little British flavor.  With two daughters in college and a recent back surgery that now makes it difficult getting in and out of the Jag ... it just seems like the right time to fine her a new home.  From any angle this Jaguar has the lines that have been talked about in the automotive industry for years. A sense of true style that many have tried to emulate with precious few succeeding. It's a 'benchmark' that's very high ... it set the notion of a true 'sports car' for years and years. An icon of the era and 'British' in every sense of the word.  Compare this Jag with the Audi and Range Rover in the background.
 Well, a refined animal anyway. Like a Swiss watch on steroids.  The XKE was a radical design for its time ... it sort of put the 'swoop' in sports car design.  The interior is well appointed, in great condition ... and, everything works. All of it.  The odometer is in good working order and now reads just 66,074 actual miles (only 1,612 miles / year average for 41 years) Yep, a 'Country Club' car. Low miles with exquisite care. Just how you'd like to find one.  Well appointed in every way.  'Connally' hides throughout ... all in the quite desirable 'biscuit' color.
 4-speed manual transmission - the best. It there a true sports car with an automatic? The 4-speed shifts flawlessly and is in perfect working order.  'Jaguar' OEM rubber mats with the Jaguar logo have protected the floors since new.  This period advert kind of says it all.  All the leather upholstery is in excellent condition and has acquired a gentle, pleasing 'patina' over the years.  Yes, two adults can 'squeeze' in here, just ... 2 children or teens, no problem.  Seat backs are also in fine condition ... no rips, tears, gouges or broken seams.  Lots of good information here.  Another creature comfort of the 2+2 is the rear hatch with room enough for all the luggage for an extended weekend. You can even have custom fitted luggage handmade by a few of the specialty shops that advertise on the web.  A bag of clubs, a bagged sail or two, your eBay purchases ... lots of room for what have you.  Again, all in excellent condition.  You have to love the Enzo Ferrari quote in the upper right of this advert ...
 It's time for a look under the hood ...  Like I said previously, a Swiss watch on steroids.
 This V12 has been meticulously maintained since day one. It's a beautifully designed engine what has been trouble free.
 This big V12 in a small compartment is, at best, hard to photograph. A simple web search will bring up all the specs. of this fine V12 engine if you'd care to delve further.  This 'E-Type' has always been well cared for - a weekend driver as these many photos well show. Its always started with a simple twist of the key and has gone with nary a hiccup for years on end.  Tuned to perfection, it's ready when you are.  Sorry for the blurry photo - the ID Tag showing a build date of 1973 and the VIN # UD1S74461  A period ad from a previous model with the smaller 4.2 liter inline 6-cylinder engine.  Now a look at the interesting bits ... the chassis, suspension and exhaust system.  Up she goes for a good looking over - or under, whatever the case may be.  Beautiful chrome wire wheels with true knockoff hubs. This XKE sports a near new set of 'Michelin - Harmony' radial tires in the correct size of: P215/65R15. They might have a few hundred miles on them at this point. This is a matched set of five 'Michelin' tires - four on the vehicle and a spare located under the boot.  The suspension if in top notch condition throughout. Disk brakes all around, of course.  Rear suspension with new 'Boge' shocks.  Note the mud splatters on the fenders ... promptly taken care of on arrival at home.  Routine maintenance has been performed throughout its 41 year life.
 Stainless steel (read: expensive) dual exhaust with a 4-port exit - and, a sound that will stir your soul.  Custom fabricated upgrade - a highly efficient, all aluminum alloy radiator.

Jaguar's next-generation XJ will be electric, but it won't bend design rules
Mon, May 4 2020Jaguar's next-generation XJ won't roar like a lion or purr like a kitten. It will ditch gasoline-powered six- and eight-cylinder engines in favor of electric power, the British company confirmed, but that's not an excuse to completely change its proportions. It will still be recognizable as a member of the decades-old XJ family. "We're there to make the best-looking cars we possibly can, so the new XJ, it does have a [hood] on it. It's a very, very elegant shape; it's probably a little bit more traditional than the I-Pace," explained Julian Thomson, the man who replaced Ian Callum as Jaguar's head of design, in an interview with magazine Auto Express. The aforementioned I-Pace is a segment-bending crossover with short overhangs and an unusually spacious cabin; it takes full advantage of the possibilities offered by compact electric technology, and it looks like nothing else on the road. Thomson confirmed his team won't take the XJ in this direction, and spy shots (pictured) taken far north of the Arctic Circle illustrate his point while keeping finer details under a swirly black and white wrap. Although it's built on a massive lithium-ion battery pack, the next-generation XJ seemingly wears the typical long front, short back proportions that have characterized the model for generations. The most dramatic change is the presence of a hatch instead of a trunk lid. It was added to give the sedan a more fastback-like appearance than its predecessor; it has nothing to do with what's under the sheet metal. The XJ has been the segment's underdog for many years so keeping the classic three-box silhouette would have been marketing suicide. "It's going to be a very, very luxurious, very, very calm, tranquil piece of transportation. But, it's not overtly flashy, it's not overtly expensive," summed up Thomson. His comments suggest it will be a better match for the Mercedes-Benz EQS, which is being designed around comfort the firm is known for globally, than for the Porsche Taycan, which stays true to the badge on its nose by putting a greater focus on performance. The electric version of the seventh-generation BMW 7 Series due out in the early 2020s will split the difference. Jaguar is putting the final touches on the next-generation XJ, and it plans to introduce the model before the end of 2020. It's too early to tell if the big, silent cat will make its debut at one of the few auto shows left on the calendar, at a standalone event, or online.
Next-gen electric Jaguar XJ could pack as much as 800 horsepower
Mon, Mar 4 2019A report in Car magazine puts more meat on rumors about the next-generation Jaguar XJ. As has long been expected, the flagship English sedan is still predicted to move to an all-electric platform. The report says the XJ could be the first to move to Jaguar Land Rover's new Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) suitable for ICE, hybrid and battery-electric vehicles. That's the same platform that's supposed to be used for the XJ's twin, a more car-like Land Rover nicknamed the Road Rover by outsiders. The XJ could inherit I-Pace powertrain internals, with a couple of twists. The I-Pace hides a 90-kWh battery sending juice to two electric motors, one on each axle. Total system output comes to 394 horsepower and 512 pound-feet of torque. According to Car, the XJ could upgrade battery capacity to 100 kWh, and use it to power four electric motors placed at the wheels. Each of those motors could be rated up to 200 horsepower. This reads like pie-in-the-sky concept spec, but if Jaguar were to do such a thing, the XJ would immediately claim the power trophy among its luxury electric competition. Arguably the bigger question is when are we going to see it? Various corners have predicted a launch in 2019 for at least three years, and most recently just a year ago. Unless spy photographers have decided to ignore Coventry, we haven't seen a single mule or camo'd prototype, making the sedan seem no closer now than in 2016. What's more, Car's use of conditionals makes it sound like Jaguar hasn't nailed down the final specs. We know — or think we know — the XJ exterior will stick with the five-door liftback style. Jaguar's futuristic 'Sayer' steering wheel might make your morning coffee
Tue, Sep 5 2017In the not-too-distant future, it would be the only part of the car you'd actually own. If it were the subject of a surrealist painting from 1929, it might feature the tagline, "Ceci n'est pas un volant," the French word for steering wheel. Jaguar calls it Sayer and says it's the steering wheel of the future — the first voice-activated, artificial intelligence steering wheel that will be able to carry out hundreds of tasks and follow you from car to car. "Imagine a future of autonomous, connected and electric cars where you don't own a single car, but instead call upon the vehicle of your choice where and when you need it," the company says. "That's a future vision Jaguar Land Rover is exploring with Sayer, the connected steering wheel that could be the only part of the car you own." Automakers focused on developing autonomous vehicles have proposed doing away with pedals and steering wheels, but this is the first we've heard of that envisions the steering wheel, such as it is, as your veritable car keys in a self-driving, car-sharing world. Jaguar says it could order up a ride to get you where you need to go on time, and it could even advise you when you might enjoy driving part of the journey yourself. No word on whether it can sync with a toaster for breakfast, however. The concept device is named after Malcolm Sayer, a Jaguar designer from 1951 to 1970 who's responsible for the E-Type and D-Type racer, which won the Le Mans 24-hour race three times in a row in the 1950s. It will feature on a Jaguar concept called Future-Type in 2040. In the meantime, it will be unveiled at Tech Fest at Central St. Martins, University of the Arts London on Thursday, Sept. 7, as part of the automaker's "Technology with Heart" presentation.
