KURT TANNER RESTORATIONS offers for sale, here on Ebay, an exceptional Jaguar E-type Series Two Coupe. This car was originally sold new in Encinitas, California to it's first owner. It was sold again in 1974 to it's second owner with 47,000 miles on the speedometer. It was then in the possession of this second owner for the next 40 years, still retaining it's original pair of CA blue and yellow license plates and pink slip from 1974. It was a very well loved and well maintained car. The current mileage of 99,000 is the believed original mileage, according to his heirs. It appears that the car has never been mechanically rebuilt, testament to the fact of the car receiving the utmost care and servicing on a quality Jaguar. It runs, drives, stops, steers, and holds the road wonderfully well for a car of this period. It was comprehensively cosmetically restored in 1997 by Jaguar marque specialist "More Than Just Cars" in Upland, CA and is still presenting extremely well today, as evidenced by the photos. The restoration in 1997 involved a complete removal of glass, chrome, rubber, and interior. It was then sent out for specialist paintwork and the car's exterior body panels were stripped to bare metal. The car was then etch primed, and show quality body and paint was then carried out with great results in the original Regency Red correct Jaguar color. All of the chromework was replated to a high standard and fitted back onto the car. The glass was re-installed with a new rubber kit. The car's interior was treated to a new and correct Black trim kit with leather seats, a new seat foam kit, panel kit, carpet kit, dash top pad, etc. A new headliner was installed. Some E-types can be difficult to get in and out of. This car is fitted with a very useful smaller steering wheel. 4 brand-new Dayton stainless wire wheels were purchased and fitted with expensive Michelin 185xHR15 XVS radial tires. The car still retains it's original 5th chrome wire wheel and factory Dunlop spare tire in mint condition. The car includes photographic evidence of the complete restoration. The car's engine compartment is highly original and received only a light detailing. It was refreshed to be in keeping with the rest of the car. The car has a small history file of maintenance and work carried out on it mechanically. The engine is clean and has very good oil pressure, registering 55 psi along the road at 2000 RPM. It settles at about 22-25 psi at hot idle. There is no smoke on start up or unfamiliar Jaguar noises. The clutch feels very nice and bites well. The gearbox shifts nice and positively through it's 4 gears with excellent syncromesh. The rear axle behaves properly and has had it's shocks replaced at some point. The brakes pull up very well. The front suspension has been rebushed with upgraded polyurethane bushings. The car has no mechanical needs at all. This is an excellent driving car with original mileage and good maintenance history. Overall, one would be hard pushed to find a better Series Two Coupe on today's market ready to drive, use, and enjoy. This Jaguar E-type has an enviable two-owner California history from new, the last owner from the past 4 decades. It is offered here in it's original color scheme and has enjoyed an excellent cosmetic restoration that is still presenting beautifully. It is sold with it's original owner's operating manual and all associated warranty booklets from new, in the original Jaguar pouch. Also included is a factory workshop manual and the Robert Bentley version. This car represents very good value, as the costs of restoration to restore E-types continues to escalate. Such a nice car will prove to be a sound investment going forward. This car is located in Southern California and can be viewed by appointment. It is sold with a clear CA title. Jaguar XKSS tipped to be next continuation model
Mon, Feb 9 2015After the Jaguar F-Type Project Seven, Range Rover Sport SVR, and run of six continuation Lightweight E-Types, the Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations (SVO) division is plotting its next historic resurrection, and there's a chance it could be the Jaguar XKSS. That's the word from SVO head John Edwards to Dutch outlet Autovisie, but we need to emphasize the word "could," because the XKSS is one of about four finalists - a "major contender" - among a long list of 65 ideas for the Special Operations to devote itself to. Edwards said that SVO projects need to have some kind of story behind them, a qualification the XKSS doesn't lack. In the 1950s Jaguar raced the D-Type to three Le Mans wins among its list of victories, but retired as a factory team at the end of 1955. When Jaguar decided to turn 25 unused D-Type chassis' into road-going cars, the XKSS was created. The company built the 25, but a fire at the Browns Lane factory destroyed nine of them. It is those nine that will be in the continuation run, should the XKSS get the nod. Jaguar has already sold the six E-Type Lightweight models, each one for more a million pounds ($1.52M US). The XKSS could undoubtedly command even more, with its legendary roots; the 1956 model that Steve McQueen bought for $5,000 (and Jay Leno recently drove) is said to be worth thirty million. We have to think that even if the XKSS isn't chosen right now, it will certainly get the green light at some point. Chip Foose cooks up a custom 1974 Jaguar E-Type for SEMA
Thu, Nov 7 2019Avert your eyes, purists. California-based designer Chip Foose traveled to the 2019 SEMA show to unveil a resto-modded 1974 Jaguar E-Type built at the request of a customer. With a custom design and an American heart, the roadster took over 2 1/2 years to make. Finished in Green Sand, the E-Type was in seemingly good condition when it took up residence in Foose's shop in April 2017; it looks strikingly similar to a 48,000-mile example sold by RM Sothebys in January 2017. Many would drive it as-is, but its anonymous owner had something completely different in mind. Foose and his team modified nearly every part of the convertible's body. Builders punched out a scoop in the hood, extended the rocker panels, made the trunk lid about five inches longer, and gave the rear end a more tapered look accented by flush lights and quad exhaust tips. Even seemingly minor details were hugely important for the enthusiast who commissioned this build. While E-Type headlight bezels are readily available online, the ones on the SEMA car are hand-shaped from brass. Custom-built wheels put a modern spin on the E's original wire knock-offs. The interior looks period-correct thanks to leather upholstery, analog gauges, and a wood-rimmed steering wheel, but the list of changes is longer than the E-Type's hood. Jaguar's emblematic drop-top had a rather busy-looking dashboard topped with a padded cap and peppered with a galaxy of buttons, knobs, and switches. Foose's build adopts a cleaner, simpler design with gauges arranged in a cluster behind the steering wheel, and a chrome strip that runs across the entire dashboard. His team installed new carpet and bucket seats after concealing a modern sound system. To us, the new-look interior has more of a 1950s vibe than the original E-Type's. The changes are more than skin-deep. Tilting the hood forward reveals a Chevrolet-sourced, 6.2-liter V8 engine tuned to 525 horsepower replaces the 272-horsepower, 5.3-liter V12 this Jag came with when it was new. It shifts through a four-speed automatic transmission. Upgraded brakes and a redesigned suspension help keep the additional power in check, though performance numbers aren't available. It hopefully still has its original toolkit, as a factory-made reproduction costs nearly $1,000. There's no word on who commissioned this E-Type, but keep an eye out for it the next time you go to cars and coffee. The V8 exhales through a custom exhaust, so you might hear it before seeing it.
Jaguar XE axed from U.S. market: And then there was one sedan
Tue, Oct 6 2020The Jaguar XE sedan will no longer be offered in the U.S. market starting with the 2021 model year, the company announced Tuesday, shifting the balance of its lineup in favor of ever-more-popular crossover models. With the discontinuation of Jaguar's compact sedan, the E Pace crossover becomes the brand's entry-level model. "The 2021 model year lineup, with three SUVs, a sports car and a competitively priced luxury sedan, continues the evolution of Jaguar to specifically meet the U.S. market requirements, which today is made up of 66 percent SUV buyers in the luxury segment,” Jaguar North America boss Joe Eberhardt said in the announcement. “But the biggest impact on the product portfolio are the technology and interior design changes made across the lineup. These updates, and the repositioning of the Jaguar XF, will help our retailers grow our business in all segments.” And reposition it they did. For 2021, the midsize XF sedan will start at $45,145 (including $1,150 for destination) — $7,100 less than the 2020 model, corresponding to its rather significant overhaul. While the 2021 XF's interior got some much-needed upgrades, Jaguar made some fundamental changes to the XF formula. The midsizer is now only available with four-cylinder engines, as the supercharged V6 has been axed. The base engine is the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder making 246 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. It's available with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. A version of this engine making 296 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque is optional, and it comes only with all-wheel drive. And not only is the XF now Jaguar's entry-level sedan, it's also the company's halo sedan. Yes, that's the long way 'round to saying that the XF sits alone in Jaguar's four-door lineup for the 2021 model year — and perhaps for longer — while we await the unveiling of the next-generation XJ, which is expected to debut as an EV. Related Video:
