Here's a great 2000 Isuzu Amigo. Ironman Triathlon Limited Edition with very low mileage that has served me very well for 9 years! Since I have 2 vehicles and also work from home, the mileage stays pretty low. I am the second owner and have all paperwork for everything that has been mechanically performed for this vehicle since I've owned it.  The oil has been changed every 3000 miles, it has almost new Goodyear Wrangler tires, and is extremely clean inside and out!  I have running boards for it, but just never put them on and will include them as well.  I also have an extra sun roof and storage bag for same, and a soft top for it.  The soft top needs a little TLC since I haven't put the soft top on it in a while, so it's been sitting in my garage. I also have printed instructions on how to put the soft top on and take it back off.  I gotta say I love this vehicle and if they still made them in the US, I'd be getting another, they run forever, and are a blast to drive!!! It's a V6 and 4WD with all the bells and whistles for the time it was made, like a 6 disc CD with a really decent sound system. Of course, all this can be upgraded, but honestly, the sound system's sounds pretty good and my other vehicle is a 1994 RX7 twin turbo with a Bose system in it, so I've definitely heard some good systems. Also has keyless entry, power windows and mirrors. The a/c and heat work great as well.

Since this is the Limited Ed Ironman Triathlon, it has a beefed up suspension and stabilization system.  The engine runs like a top and as far as I know everything works perfectly on this vehicle. It just passed NJ inspection (I live near Mt. Laurel, NJ in case you want to take it for a drive) in June and here are the only issues with the vehicle, which are not really issues, but worth mentioning:  When the tank gets below one quarter full, the "check engine" light comes on, when you put gas in the vehicle, it readjusts itself and goes off.  I've had this checked out and have found that the fuel tank sensor needs to be replaced, but never saw the need to spend the money on it since I know what it is and the light always goes out after I put gas in her.  If you want to put a new sensor in, that would take care of the problem....I just never did. I just considered it one of her little "quirks". The other issue is that one of the anti-lock sensors broke on the front driver's side and after a $619 repair (I have all copies of repairs done on this vehicle and well as the large mechanical workbook for it) because the routers and calipers had to be redone because when the sensor broke it chewed into the wheel and since it had to be repaired on one side, had to be fixed on the other as well. So that being said, it now has regular brakes which work perfectly fine, just doesn't have anti-lock brakes.  This is also an easy solution, if you want to spend the money to do it....they sell the parts for it on ebay actually and the shop where I've always had all my repairs done told me they'd be happy to put the sensor assembly on, if I provide the parts.  I have all the info if you would want to do that, or if you are mechanically inclined yourself, it is something you could do yourself after you get the parts.  But the vehicle drives just fine, stops just fine so after spending $619, I didn't really feel like spending more. Also, as shown in one of the photos, the black detailing has started to come off on the driver's side of the Amigo. I'm sure it can be repaired as well.  Other than these issues, the truck runs great and has lots of life left in her!

The interior is in great condition, no tears on the seats or anything. Guess the front mats could use a shampoo, but otherwise the interior is in great shape.  I take good cars of my vehicles!  The exterior is also in great condition, but I didn't wax it this spring, so a waxing would just make it look better.  No real rust issues, just a tiny bit under the bottom rim near the back of the side panel.  You cannot really see it unless you bend down and look underneath.  Otherwise, no rust problems, no dents and no scratches to speak of.  All in all, this Amigo is in amazing shape with super low mileage.

PLEASE BE AWARE I HAVE THIS VEHICLE LISTING LOCALLY AND ON OTHER SITES, so if you'd like to come over and take her for a ride, please let me know.  I reserve the right to end this auction at any time because it is listed other places, so if you are interested PLEASE GET IN TOUCH. I have a feeling she will sell quickly. If I forgot to mention anything, please ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE, as I may have forgotten something. Of course, this Amigo is SOLD AS IS, but honestly, to my knowledge, there are no other issues other than what I've mentioned, and it has always been very well maintained. You get many years of fun with her, just like I did!

Junkyard Gem: 1994 Isuzu Rodeo 4WD

Tue, Feb 28 2023

After a decade in which Isuzu-built Chevrolet LUV pickups, Isuzu-engined Chevrolet Chevettes and Isuzu Geminis with confusing "Opel by Isuzu" or "Buick/Opel Isuzu" badges, Isuzu finally began selling Americans its vehicles with Isuzu badging in the early 1980s. There were Isuzu cars, sure, but the P'up pickup and (starting in 1984) the Trooper SUV showed that Isuzu was likely to rake in the most yen by selling trucks on this side of the Pacific. The three-door convertible Amigo appeared here in 1989, but it was a little too small and silly to sell much among the suburban-commuter set. For the 1991 model year, a five-door Amigo sibling showed up: the Rodeo. The early Rodeo is getting quite rare today, but I was able to find this fairly clean '94 in a Denver-area self-service yard a few months back. These trucks, which were based on the same chassis as the P'up (known as the Isuzu Pickup after 1987) sold well in Colorado. You could get the first-generation Rodeo with rear-wheel-drive, but the four-wheel-drive version made more sense if you wanted to slog through snow and mud in the Rockies (or just feel safe when crossing a parking lot dusted with the white stuff). This truck has true four-wheel-drive, not what eventually became known as all-wheel-drive, but at least the higher trim levels had automatic locking hubs instead of the manual sort that forced you to stop and kneel in the mud to switch. Americans loved automatic transmissions nearly as much in 1994 as we do today, but they cost a lot more relative to manuals back then. This truck has a five-speed manual. The MSRP on this truck was $19,249, or about $39,075 in 2022 dollars. If you wanted it with an automatic transmission, the price went up to $20,349 ($41,310 today). The air conditioning in this one cost an additional 850 bucks (1,725 bucks now). The engine is an Isuzu 3.2-liter V6, rated at 175 horsepower. This truck was built at Subaru-Isuzu Automotive in Indiana; Subaru eventually bought out Isuzu's share of the joint venture and now only Subaru models are built there. Just to add another manufacturer to the mix, Honda sold rebadged Rodeos with Passport badges (and rebadged Troopers as Acura SLXs). This one was well-cared-for, looking clean for a machine with close to 200,000 miles on the clock. We can assume that some costly mechanical ailment finally sent it to this, its final parking place.

Cars with the most reckless drivers are full of surprises

Wed, Oct 13 2021

Insurify is a site for comparing auto insurance quotes. Because insurance shoppers need to submit information like the vehicles they're driving and the infractions they've compiled while driving those vehicles, Insurify has quite the database of correlations tying certain models to a habit of breaking certain laws. When the site's data analysts decided to compile a list of the top ten models for reckless driving citations in the decade from 2010 to 2019, the ranking contained a few wild entries. The Dodge Challenger making the countdown will surprise precisely zero people. But the Saturn L200? First, a definition: USLegal.com defines reckless driving as "driving with a willful or wanton disregard for safety. It is the operation of an automobile under such circumstances and in such a manner as to show a willful or reckless disregard of consequences." So this list is a caution about particular drivers more than the cars. For a baseline, according to Insurify data, for any random model, 15 out of 10,000 people who drive that model have picked up one citation for reckless driving. Back to that Challenger, then. No shocker for being here, but it's actually number 10, with 44 out of 10,000 Challenger drivers nabbed for a willful disregard of consequences on the road. That's better than the first surprise entry, the Saturn L200, a sedan only on sale for six years, with the least horsepower on the list, and out of production since 2005. The data set put drivers of GM's extraterrestrial sedan at 45 reckless pilots per 10,000 drivers. There are two pickups on the list, the only modern one being the Ram 1500 at eighth, with a rate of 46 in 10,000. Somehow, drivers of the third-best-selling pickup in the U.S. outrun the overwhelming numerical superiority of the best-selling vehicle in the States, the Ford F-150. The other pickup is the Chevrolet K1500 at number five, with a rate of 56 in 10,000. This is not only the oldest vehicle on the list, it went out of production in 2002, before any other vehicle on the list. Between the trucks, the Volkswagen CC slotted in at seven with 47 in 10,000 reckless driving chits, the Cadillac ATS slipped into sixth with 48 in 10,000.  The top four is a bag of unexpected. The Nissan 370Z is the first hardcore sports car on the list at number four, with 61 in 10,000 Z drivers flaunting their Fairladys in the face of Johnny Law.

Junkyard Gem: 1997 Acura SLX

Tue, Nov 27 2018

When I'm prowling wrecking yards, I'm always on the lookout for obscure examples of badge engineering, and the weirder they are, the better I like them. While I haven't managed to spot a junked Suzuki Equator yet, I have photographed such rarities as the Saab 9-2x and Isuzu Ascender. A few weeks ago, I encountered one of the real oddities of the Honda-Isuzu dealmaking of the 1990s: a 1997 Acura SLX, a luxed-up Isuzu Trooper that sold very poorly and is now mostly forgotten today. Plenty of Acura SUVs designed and built entirely by Honda roll out of American showrooms today, but the 1990s SUV boom caught Honda by surprise. The first MDX wasn't ready until the 2001 model year, so Honda made a deal to take Isuzu Troopers, apply wood and leather inside and Acura badges outside, and cash in on North Americans' increasing disdain for minivans, sedans, and station wagons. Americans were very familiar with the Trooper, which was sold here from the middle 1980s until the 2002 model year, when the Chevrolet Trailblazer-based Ascender went on sale. The Isuzu name stuck around on these shores until 2008. The SLX was a decent enough truck, but there was no disguising its proletariat Trooper roots from status-conscious SUV shoppers who wanted to look more oligarchic while conquering a half-inch of snow in the mall parking lot. It didn't help that the 1997 Trooper L listed at $27,800 and the SLX Premium cost $38,300 (that's about $44,200 and $60,900 in inflation-adjusted 2018 bucks). SLX sales started off weak and plummeted after that. After 1999, the SLX was done. I spent years trying to find one in California and Colorado wrecking yards, but the few that were sold seemed to be sturdy enough to stay alive for a couple of decades. Finally, this high-mile '97 appeared in a Denver yard. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
