2002 Infiniti Q45 - Premium Package
Sunroof; Bose Sound System; Power everything

Pros:
Great ride (smooth, powerful acceleration). 140,000 miles. New tires. Regular maintenance. Clean (non-smoking). 22 MPG avg. (26 MPG Highway). Bose sound system.  Power seats/steering.

Cons:
Mostly cosmetic:  exterior has ~10 minor dents (falling acorns!), front & rear bumper have road rash. Trunk lid has small dent.  Rear sunscreen is disabled (disconnected and clipped in the down position). Tire Pressure Monitor (TPMS) light goes on after 9 min. (tires are fine!). Small (hidden) tear on front seat (driver's side). Driver's floor mat is worn. Rear right quarter panel was repainted although Car Fax did not have any record of the car being in an accident.

I inherited a newer car, so this one has to go. This car is not in mint condition, but it has been a blast to drive - smooth, reliable and quiet for five years.

In its present condition, KBB.com has this car valued at $6,625. I have reduced my asking price to account for the cosmetic issues mentioned above  (you will likely want to repaint/repair bumpers).  The TPMS issue is a minor nuisance (tires are fine).  You can 'fix' it by placing a small square piece of black electrical tape over the warning light. The dealer claims the TPMS fault is due to 'low battery' levels in one of the tire sensors.

Here are some further notes in the form of a message with another bidder from a prior auction....(I just relisted the car):

I'll try to answer your questions but as a general principle, the car is being sold "as is".  If you would like to inspect it prior to the auction end we can make arrangements.

1)  No, I do not have maintenance records beyond recipts for services at my regular garage and the dealer.
2)  No, timing chain was never replaced.
3)  Yes, brakes have been serviced/replaced
4)  No, exhaust is original
5)  Precise mileage information is in CarFax report; I believe I drove it about 70,000 miles
6)  No, I don't know anything more about the rear quarter panel.  If it was an accident, it was not reported to CarFax and was not disclosed to me when I bought it.  The bumper was repainted and it was represented to me as a minor "ding".  The paint job is not great, hence my discounted price for the new owner to get it repainted.
7)  Dent is on top of the trunk lid,  It was represented to me as someone closing the trunk with something stuck between the lid and the deck.
8)  No, I don't believe the acorn dents are that noticeable; the dent on the left rear quarter panel is from a large, falling branch.  It left a noticiable scuff and a dent.  I think it can be buffed out to minimize the appearance.  Rather than speculating, I recommend you inspect the car before you decide.
9)  No, the dealer says it is caused by dead/dying batteries in the tire stems. He wanted $600 to replace all four.  However, that is 8 months ago and the TPMS still shows tire pressure telemetry from the "dead" batteries...at least for nine minutes upon startup.  So, I doubt the dealer's disagnosis.  This is an annoyance, not a critical defect so far as I am concerned.
10)  As I stated earlier, the car is being sold "as is".  It was built in Spetember 2001, so I can not give any assurances about "future" mechanical issues.  However, the car has been fairly reliable and great to drive.  Again, please arrange for an inspection, preferably by a trusted mechanic, before you bid.

Infiniti went out of its way to make the QX30 not a Mercedes

Thu, Mar 16 2017

You can complain all you want about perceived badge engineering when a company (like Mercedes-Benz) sells a platform to another brand (such as Infiniti). The reality is that most buyers won't know the difference, and they won't even realize their Infiniti is really a Mercedes underneath or that their neighbor's GLA has the same basic parts as the QX30 they just bought. What's weird to me isn't that sameness, but the places where the two cute little utes differ. These two vehicles, which are more like tall hatchbacks, use the same Mercedes 2.0-liter turbo four and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Infiniti adds its own throttle and transmission calibrations. The suspension design is the same, although there are tuning differences. Both come standard with front-wheel drive, with all-wheel drive an option. Fuel economy matches for the FWD models, while the AWD Infiniti lags behind the Mercedes for some reason. So they're very similar despite their different looks. And design makes sense as a point of differentiation. Frankly, they go further than a lot of vehicles on shared platforms do – further, in fact, than the upcoming Nissan Navara-based Mercedes X-Class pickup does. The QX30 has its own sheetmetal and glass to separate it from the GLA-class. You probably think one looks better than the other. If you know where to look, the signs of sameness are obvious. Most major systems and pieces are shared, like the steering wheels (with different center covers), most switchgear, and things like interior and exterior door handles. Shared parts are fine as long as the parts are good ones. On that note, how many Tesla buyers realize their steering column and stalks, plus the window switches, come from Mercedes? And does that actually matter? We'd argue no. About those differences. Many are functional, like the fact the Infiniti does not carry over the Benz's Brake Hold feature – when you roll to a stop in the GLA (or any other Benz), pressing the brake pedal firmly applies the electric parking brake until you hit the gas to move again. The QX30 has an electric parking brake, but no Brake Hold feature. Someone used to driving Mercedes models will look a bit silly standing on the brake pedal to no effect. Ask us how we know. The Mercedes gauge package is carried over, but with the Infiniti font. Makes sense, although it's off-putting at first if you've seen the original, prompting a weird deja vu. Circular dash vents are replaced by rhomboid ones.

Infiniti keeps us on our toes for Q50 Eau Rouge

Tue, 24 Dec 2013

If you've been watching the evolving rapprochement between Infiniti and Red Bull Racing, and have wondered what the point was if the Japanese automaker didn't capitalize on its expensive collaboration with the world-champion Formula One team, then Infiniti may finally have the answer come the Detroit Auto Show next month.
That's where Nissan's premium division is set to unveil the Q50 Eau Rouge concept, a show car set to showcase its F1 involvement in the form of a jazzed-up sports sedan. We still don't have much to go on in terms of what the concept car will actually entail beyond a body kit, but Infiniti has launched a dedicated website for the reveal and with it, this teaser video. It still doesn't tell us much, but it's a cool animation just the same, so check it out below.

Infiniti teases November debut of new QX55 crossover-coupe

Wed, Aug 5 2020

Infiniti will officially unveil its new QX55 crossover-coupe via social media on Nov. 11, Nissan's luxury subsidiary announced early Wednesday. Infiniti is calling it a return to the segment which the company helped pioneer when it launched the FX crossover back in 2002.  "With a roofline and visual elements inspired by the iconic Infiniti FX, the QX55’s provocative design will fuse the stance and versatility of a premium midsize crossover with the sleek profile of a sports coupe," Infiniti's announcement said. "Beyond its provocative looks, the QX55 will also feature innovative technologies designed to empower, engage and connect luxury customers to the road ahead." The announcement was accompanied by the above teaser image, which depicts the QX55's tapered liftgate. It's quite a bit more conservative than the previously released design sketch suggested, but certainly looks the part.  The QX55 is one of five new vehicles Infiniti plans to launch in the next three years. It was first teased last August during Monterey Car Week. While Infiniti has been leaning heavily on the heritage of the original FX (which later became the QX70) since releasing that first design sketch, the QX55 will actually have little in common with its spiritual ancestor. While they may share fastback SUV looks, the QX55 will be based on the QX50 — a modern, front-wheel-drive crossover with small, efficient engines. The FX was derived from Infiniti's sport sedans and coupes, and even boasted a V8 option for much of its existence. Production of the new crossover-coupe was slated to begin in June, but was reportedly pushed back due to complications at its production facility in Aguascalientes, Mexico. The facility is a joint-venture project between Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler and Nissan, and produces several other front- and all-wheel-drive vehicles for both companies.  Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party.
