Infiniti Q30 will debut at Frankfurt Motor Show

The Infiniti Q30 made its debut as a svelte concept at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. Now, two years later, the luxury hatchback will make a big return to the German show in September to launch in production guise. Before the end of the year, the first Q30s will start showing up for sale in European showrooms to take on rivals like the Audi A3. To tease the launch, Infiniti has released this single image of the Q30 going through final validation testing on the road. Unfortunately, it's still wearing a very effective camouflage pattern – just like some previously spied examples. Still, we can tell that there are definite similarities to the hatchback's stylish QX30 compact crossover sibling, which is also on the way. Both of them have sharply pointed, narrow headlights and steeply raked hatches. We can also just make out the deeply creased swage line that cuts through the front door handles and then dips down in this photo. Infiniti promises more details to come about the Q30 before the Frankfurt launch. At least for European examples, assembly is reportedly earmarked for the Sunderland factory in the UK. The Q30 will go on sale in Europe towards the end of 2015 with other markets to follow subsequently. More news on the Infiniti Q30 active compact will be released closer to the Frankfurt show in September. Infiniti confirms new "premium compact" to be built in UK

Aside from certain naming-related news, Infiniti has actually had some decent product news to announce this week. The company's president, Johan de Nysschen, alluded to a new 550-horsepower performance sedan, and now the automaker has confirmed that a new "premium compact" will go into production in 2015. Based on the fact that this new model will be built alongside the Nissan Leaf at the automaker's Sunderland, UK assembly plant, we could only hope that it's a production version of the LE Concept (shown above).
Sunderland already produces Nissan products like the Qashqai, Juke and Note, and as a part of an investment of 250 million British pounds (around $406 million USD) for the new model, the plant would add an extra 280 jobs with the capacity to build 60,000 of the new Infinitis annually. Adding the premium compact at Sunderland means that Infiniti will have to change its plans for another new model, a bigger "C-segment hatchback," which could very well be a production version of the Etherea Concept.

Driver Lets Infiniti Do The Driving For Him

Self-driving cars seem like the way of the future, but some can't stand the wait. Like this guy, driving down Germany's famous Autobahn in an Infiniti Q50 with Active Lane Control. To test how active the Active Lane Control feature really is, he moves from the driver's seat to the back seat and lets the car's suite of safety systems take control. Active Lane Control debuted in 2013 as part of the Lane Departure Prevention system. It helps Q50's driver use fewer steering inputs by compensating for road conditions. It works with the LDP to keep the vehicle in its intended lane. Used with cruise control, the car maintains its position fairly well on the road. Active Lane Control is only there to help however, not drive for you. While the technology is impressive, it certainly isn't up to the task of navigating the road full time. This driver/passenger is putting his life and the lives of everyone around him in serious danger. We suggest other Infiniti owners wait for the real deal. The future is closer than you think.
