Infiniti spruces up the Q50 for 2018

Though overshadowed by the literally larger QX80 Monograph SUV concept, Infiniti's revised 2018 Q50 still made an appearance at the stand in New York. It joins a long list of cars including the Acura TLX, Hyundai Sonata, Mitsubishi Outlander Sport, VW Golf, and Toyota Sienna and Yaris that all went under the knife for the show. The Infiniti Q50's update may be one of the most mild, though, as it only consisted of cosmetic changes. Up front, the grille has been enlarged and given more prominent swoops at each corner. On the S version, sharp creases appear on either side of the primary grille and descend down to the lower, center grille. The outboard grilles of the front bumper have changed shape, too, and they now feature contrasting black plastic trim. The standard Q50 has a new bumper, as well, and though less aggressive than the S version, it still looks sporty with a more pronounced chin spoiler. Both iterations of the 2018 Q50 share the same tail end. The main change is in the rear bumper. A center diffuser has now appeared at the base. The contour of the diffuser is echoed by two creases in the bumper at progressively higher points. On the S model, the panel between the diffuser and the first crease is painted black, and the diffuser is painted in the body color. The standard model's entire bumper is painted in body color, and the diffuser looks to be a more muted black or gray. Inside, even fewer changes have been made. A new steering wheel with reshaped thumb grips is now included. Infiniti also added new stitching to the instrument panel cover and leather shift knob. Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge revealed ahead of Detroit

As fast as Infiniti is on the track with its sponsored Formula One racecar, the automaker sure is taking its time releasing details for the Q50 Eau Rouge Concept. This performance- and aero-tuned version of the Q50 sedan is heading for a big debut at the Detroit Auto Show, and Infiniti just released a new image and some more info on what we can only hope is a glimpse at future Infiniti Performance Line (IPL) products.
Influenced by the Red Bull Racing program, Infiniti's design team gave the Q50 a substantial once over with the concept getting an entirely new body compared to the production version of the luxury sedan making it both lower and wider. Previewed by an earlier teaser, the face of the Q50 Eau Rouge Concept has a mean look with massive intakes and a carbon fiber splitter. This new image also shows off additional cues like the lightweight, 21-inch wheels as well as the carbon fiber roof, side sills and door mirrors. While we only get this single image of the Q50 Eau Rouge Concept, Infiniti promises a carbon fiber rear splitter, dual exhaust and a "large integrated rear spoiler."
There is still no word on what handling or engine upgrades are in store, but hopefully those GT-R-inspired hood vents are only a hint at something monstrous lurking beneath the hood. Production Infiniti QX80 will be revealed at Dubai Motor Show

Back at the New York auto show, Infiniti showed the QX80 Monograph concept, which indicated what direction the updated production QX80 would go. At this year's Dubai auto show, we'll get to see how close the QX80 gets to the concept, since that's where the production car will debut. And thanks to some teaser images from Infiniti, we get a solid sneak peak at the SUV. Immediately apparent is that many key styling cues have made it to production, but the overall car has been notably toned down from the already relatively conservative concept. We're glad to see that the headlights have completed their trip up the front fascia, matching up better with the corporate trapezoidal grille and providing a wider, more aggressive look. The jutting, Leno-esque lower valence of the concept has been reduced to more modest proportions, but the basic shape of the lower grilles remains the same. It also appears that the fenders haven't been pumped up as much as the concept's. The mild redesign matches what will probably be very mild mechanical changes. Previous reports have said that the new QX80 will retain the same platform and powertrain as the current model. We wouldn't be surprised, though, if there have been some suspension tweaks and maybe a few extra horsepower squeezed from the current 400-horsepower 5.6-liter V8. Also, though Infiniti hasn't revealed when the SUV will go on sale, we would expect it to arrive at dealers early next year.
