2003 Hyundai Tibuorn GT v-6, with 6-speed manual transmission.  This car is in excellent mechanical condition, with no major repairs necessary (now and likely not in the near future, though there's no guarantees with used vehicles of course.)  The strongest selling point of this vehicle is the excellent mechanical condition, recency and quality of wear-item replacement, and the conversion from the factory clutch (an infamously poor design which was the central part of a class-action lawsuit) to a premium solid-flywheel clutch. Working at a friend's repair shop, the car was maintained ahead of schedule, and thoroughly (i.e. complete breakdown and rebuild of brake system when brakes were needed, replacement of intake & plenum gaskets during tune-up simply because the access was easier with wires off, etc.)

BESIDES COSMETIC (rust, dings, etc.), and the blown passenger airbag, the only repair that really should be taken care of (flasher relay) will cost either about $3 if you DIY, or about $100 if you send the part in for repair. I have all of the information and vendors for the repair, whether DIY walkthru or repair vendors. Everything else, operationally, is in excellent working condition, with no scheduled maintenance in the near future (besides oil changes, etc.)

Recent:
BRAKES:
Ultra-Premium Akebono Brake Pads (front & rear)
Premium "Carquest Blue" Brake rotors (front & rear)
Replaced one Brake Caliper, rebuilt remaining 3

Timing Belt @ 95,000 miles (so next recommended interval would be in another 49,000 miles)

Air Intake & Plenum Gaskets both replaced during full tune-up at about 100,000 miles.

Tune-Up at about 100,000 miles using premium wires & plugs.

Tires have less than 15,000 miles on them - I may be able to find the paperwork in case any warranty is transferable.

Oil Changes were performed every 3 months, at typically less than 2000 miles, using premium filters and high quality standard (not synthetic) oil.

Basically what you have is an excellent vehicle for the price if you want great performance, but don't mind (or are willing to fix) some body rust, etc.

I'm selling this car because we have 2 little ones and this car is made for handling, fun, and reasonably decent fuel economy - NOT for throwing your back out trying to move baby seats in and out of!  This is the 3rd and final vehicle we're clearing out so that our Camry can become our small vehicle while I embrace my inner hillbilly and clear off a driveway spot for an obnoxiously, unnecessarily large pickup truck :)

This is being advertised locally as well, and so auction may be canceled if a solid cash offer comes in before the end of the auction.

A note on my zero-feedback, brand-new account - I had to create this new account due to the mandatory password reset - apparently I had my old work email address and an old cell # in my ebay account which I had been using since the mid-90's. If you have any security/honesty concerns, please contact me thru ebay. I'll reply back to answer questions, and provide cell number at which I will be happy to speak with you to answer any questions you may have (as well as to schedule coming by to see/test drive the vehicle, etc.)

To the winner of the auction! Vehicle IS in perfect running/driving condition to drive home; the only exception being you won't have turn signals (but tail lights, headlights, brake lights, etc., all work.)

Viewing / Test Drive - Contact me to make arrangements to see the vehicle in person if you wish. Test drive on my street only as the license plates have been removed already, and ONLY competent stick shift drivers may test drive the vehicle.

AND FINALLY - if you wish to make a ready cash offer before the close of the auction, contact me and let's talk.

Hyundai CVVD engine brings another dimension to valve timing

Mon, Jul 8 2019

A new technology from Hyundai Motor Group places another marker on the march to more efficient internal combustion engines. Called Continuously Variable Valve Duration, the innovation permits two options for how long the intake valves remain open during the combustion cycle. The feature adds a third take on valve chicanery, atop variable valve timing that changes when valves open, and variable valve lift that changes how far valves open. Hyundai says the feature returns a 4% improvement in performance, a 5% increase in fuel economy, and lowers emissions by 12%. Hyundai applied for two patents on the valvetrain process in South Korea in 2011 and again in 2015. The altered valve duration in this latest iteration is made possible by two movable arms inside the camshaft. Each arm is anchored at its base to a pin at the center of the camshaft, while the end of each arm extends toward the edge of the camshaft. Changing the position of the pin in the center of the camshaft changes the angle of the arms relative to one another, which moves the camshaft along its mounting rod. Voila, a new intake cam profile that either lengthens or shortens valve overlap.   During low-speed spells at low load, CVVD opens the intake valve from the middle to the end of compression stroke. The weaker detonation isn't a factor at low load, and the reduced friction during compression improves fuel economy. During heavy engine loads, the intake valve closes at the beginning of the compression stroke to maximize the amount of air mixed for detonation, boosting torque. Four additional features enhance the benefits of CVVD. A more powerful direct injection system increases fuel spray pressure from 250 bar to 350 bar. Hyundai doesn't go into details on its Integrated Thermal Management System, but says the ITMS "quickly heats or cools the engine to the optimal temperature." Low-friction components lower overall engine friction by 34 percent. And a low-pressure exhaust gas recirculation layout diverts low-pressure exhaust gas from the traditional EGR route to the turbocharger compressor under high load for better fuel efficiency.   The first engine to boast the new tech is the Smartstream G1.6 T-GDi four-cylinder, which produces 180 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque. It will appear in the 2020 Hyundai Sonata Turbo going on sale in South Korea later this year.

Hyundai pickup truck sounding more likely

Tue, May 26 2015

Hyundai looks poised to get into the pickup market, according to the latest report from Automotive News. The Korean automaker revealed the Santa Cruz concept at the Detroit Auto Show this past January, previewing a vehicle that combines the best attributes of a pickup truck with those of a small crossover – sort of like a Honda Ridgeline, but smaller. It's an idea whose time has come, says Hyundai's US chief Dave Zuchowski. "We're assuming that it's going to get done," he told AN. "It's just not officially done yet." He expects it to be approved sometime within the next decade, and when it does enter production, Zuchowski said it could emerge as the first diesel-powered Hyundai offered in America. The biggest challenge, however, may not lie in convincing the head office in Seoul to give it the green light. The company's plant in Montgomery, AL, is strained enough producing the Sonata, Elantra and Santa Fe. In order to produce the pickup as well, Hyundai would need to either expand the current plant or build a new one.

Hyundai teases updated Equus before Big Apple debut

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

The digital ink has yet to dry on some of our Geneva Motor Show coverage, and we're already shifting gears getting ready for the New York Auto Show. To help get us in the New York state of mind, Hyundai has released this shadowy image hinting at the refreshed 2014 Equus that it will be unveiling at the end of the month at NYC's Javits Center.
While we can't make out any major changes in this single image, Hyundai promises at least 30 updates to its flagship sedan including improvements to styling, cabin materials and ride and handling as well as advancements in advanced safety features and "driver technology displays." If we had to guess, the latter sounds like it might be something along the lines of a digital, reconfigurable gauge cluster. The only major difference we can actually see in this image are the new multi-spoke wheels, but we're sure Hyundai will be dropping some more hints before the official introduction on March 27.
