Third row seats!

I bought this 2009 Santa Fe SE brand new because it has great power (240 hp), great handling, and three row seating, complete with air conditioning and heat in all three rows and side/curtain airbags in all three rows. It also has a USB port - keep all your mp3 songs on a USB key, control which songs you listen to using the radio, and the title/artist even shows up on the radio screen.

The black paint with beige interior looks absolutely fantastic together. It has all weather floor mats to protect the carpet. The car has power driver seat (manual passenger seat).

The vehicle has an automatic transmission with sport-shift (let's you choose your gear) and 60,000 miles.

I love this vehicle. It's relatively small, for an SUV, which means it gets pretty good gas mileage and it's pretty sporty and fun to drive. Yet it's big enough to have 3 rows of seating. I'm selling it because I'm trading it for something smaller and even sportier.

The vehicle has two small blemishes: a tear in one armrest/door handle in the second row, and one wheel has been scuffed from a slow-speed curb scrape during parallel parking (see pictures). Otherwise, only wear typical of a 5-year-old, 60,000 mile vehicle.

The vehicle has been well-maintained; all service has been done according to the maintenance schedule by the local Hyundai dealer. Tires replaced at 45,000 miles. No accidents. Non-smoker. Title in hand.

The power train is still under factory warranty (10 years/100,000 miles).

Features include power windows, power locks, power and heated mirrors, Compact Disc Drive with wma/mp3 capability, USB port, Aux jack, 8 way power driver's seat (including lumbar), auto-dimming rear view mirror with Homelink garage door opener and compass, all weather floor mats, 3rd row seating with A/C and heat, Side and curtain airbags in all three rows, traction control, vehicle stability control, 4 wheel disc brakes with electronic brake-force distribution (sends most braking power to wheels with most grip), cruise control, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, privacy glass, roof rack, alloy wheels, tilt and telescoping steering wheel, and remote keyless entry (I have both fobs).

Hyundai will open up some hydrogen fuel cell patents in Korea

Tue, Feb 10 2015

Last year, Tesla made its electric vehicle patents open source. Last month, Toyota did the same with some of its hydrogen fuel cell patents. Now, Hyundai is going to let some Korean companies get access to the automaker's patents as parts of a innovation center project in Gwangju, South Korea. Just Auto reports that about 1,000 "unused patents" belonging to Kia and Hyundai will be made available to participants in a new automotive start-up hub. There will be 12 of these hubs in Korea, not all focused on hydrogen fuel cells. Hyundai said that it will help raise $164 million to help turn Gwangju in a center for eco-friendly industry. Phil Floraday, Hyundai Motor America manager of Midwest Product Public Relations, told AutoblogGreen that, "The main purpose of the patents mentioned in the story will be to nurture small- and medium-sized businesses in the Gwangju area. While we cannot clarify all the patents at this time, we can tell you that they are not entirely focused on FCEV or eco-friendly patents only." Hyundai Ioniq EV coming with 110-mile range in US

Mon, Mar 21 2016

We've known for a while that the new Hyundai Ioniq line of vehicles will come in three variants: hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and battery electric. As we get ready for more information on the trio at the New York Auto Show this week, we've learned that t he EV, which is slated to go on sale in South Korea in June and in the US towards the end of the year, will have a 28-kilowatt-hour battery pack that's similar to the Kia Soul EV. The Sould EV has a single-charge range of 93 miles, but the Ioniq EV will be able to go as far as 110 miles on one charge, In discussion with Hyundai's Kim Choong, Automotive News learned that despite earlier talk of a 155-mile range for the EV, the 110-mile figure is what the Ioniq will get on the US EPA test cycle, Hyundai spokesman Jim Trainor confirmed in an e-mail to AutoblogGreen on Monday. The longer range figure is what the Ioniq EV will be rated at on the more lenient European cycle. Hyundai revealed its "three-pronged" plan for the Ioniq at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. We now know that the EV model will have paddle shifters so the driver can control the level of friction in the car's regenerative brake. Additionally, the EV, as with the hybrid and plug-in hybrid, will have an "eco-routing" navigation system that to make best use of either the range on the EV or the fuel economy on the hybrids. The Ioniq Hybrid debuted in South Korea in January. That variant has already received some attention because Hyundai's Lee Ki-Sang told Automotive News that the hybrid itself will have "standard" and "eco" variants, and that the "eco" version will have a combined fuel-economy rating of 56 miles per gallon, putting it well ahead of the Toyota Prius's fuel economy. That is, if these numbers are all on the same test cycle. Center for Auto Safety wants Hyundai and Kia to recall 2.9M vehicles

Fri, Oct 12 2018

DETROIT — A nonprofit auto safety group is demanding that Hyundai and Kia recall 2.9 million cars and SUVs in the U.S. due to consumer complaints that they can catch fire. The Center For Auto Safety said Friday that there have been more than 220 complaints to the U.S. government since 2010 about fires and another 200 complaints about melted wires as well as smoke and burning odors. The complaints involve the 2011 through 2014 Kia Sorento and Optima and the Hyundai Sonata and Santa Fe. Also included is the 2010 through 2015 Kia Soul. The fires are being investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration as part of a 2017 probe into Hyundai and Kia engine failures. "The volume of fires here make it appear that Hyundai and Kia are content to sit back and allow consumers and insurers to bear the brunt of poorly designed, manufactured and repaired vehicles," Jason Levine, the center's executive director, said. The fire reports have come in from across the country, including a death in Ohio in April 2017, he said. Hyundai says it monitors safety concerns and acts quickly to recall defective vehicles. "We have a robust system in place for monitoring and investigating reported vehicle fires that includes investigation and reporting to NHTSA as required. Vehicle fires can result from a variety of reasons," the company statement said. Kia said it is using company and third-party fire investigators to determine what caused the fires so it can address them. "A vehicle fire may be the result of any number of complex factors, such as a manufacturing issue, inadequate maintenance, the installation of aftermarket parts, an improper repair, arson, or some other non-vehicle source, and must be carefully evaluated by a qualified and trained investigator or technician," the company said in a statement. The Center for Auto Safety filed a petition asking NHTSA to investigate the fires in June. The agency said Friday that it is still evaluating the petition and it has sent information requests to Hyundai, Kia and other automakers about the issue. Levine says the center does not know what's causing the fires. In May 2017 the government began investigating whether the automakers moved quickly enough to recall over 1.6 million vehicles because of engines stalling. NHTSA is looking into three recalls by the related Korean brands, and it's also investigating whether the automakers followed safety reporting requirements.
