Hyundai and Kia will offer AI assistants in 2019 cars

Hyundai and Kia both have reputations as early adopters of in-car tech, and that's truer than ever now that voice assistants are becoming a practical reality on the road. The Korean automakers have revealed that they plan to include AI assistants in their new cars starting from 2019, with every vehicle being "connected" by 2025. As Hyundai explained, they've been working with SoundHound to create an Intelligent Personal Agent (based on Houndify) that both makes proactive suggestions (such as reminding you of a meeting) and offers remote control of both your car and your home. This sounds a whole lot like what other voice assistants do, but the car brands are counting on support for "multiple-command recognition" as the ace up their sleeve. If you tell your car to check the weather and turn on the lights at the same time, it'll do both instead of scratching its head like so many other AI helpers. You won't have to wait until 2019 to see the technology in action. Hyundai will unveil Intelligent Personal Agent at CES 2018, and it'll test a "simplified" take on the Agent in hydrogen fuel cell cars slated to drive on South Korean roads throughout the year. Does this Hyundai Intrado concept preview the next Tucson?

The second generation of Hyundai's Fluidic Sculpture design language has arrived a bit early, thanks to these leaked images of the Korean automaker's Intrado Concept. Set to make its big debut at next month's Geneva Motor Show, the three-door crossover is based on a next-generation version of the hydrogen powertrain used in Europe's ix35 Fuel Cell (that'd be a hydrogen Tucson, for anyone who's wondering).
We can see some 2015 Genesis Sedan in the grille, but the sharp, narrow LED headlights are something different. The c-shaped LED taillights also look good, although we're less sure about the odd fairings around the wheel wells. Overall, it's not a terrible design in our minds, but it probably won't be the pretties vehicle to debut in Geneva.
But instead of focusing on the design, let's talk about what impact the Intrado may have on Hyundai. Aside from the hydrogen powertrain, it seems as if the Intrado's design is too conservative to be a pure concept. Instead, and as you may have guessed from our headline, we're thinking this could be a preview of the next-generation Tucson. Considering the Tucson and its cousin the ix35 are the oldest vehicles in Hyundai's lineup (not counting the Sonata, which is getting replaced at the New York show) and it's a vehicle sold worldwide, previewing its replacement on a stage as big as Geneva doesn't strike us as a bad idea.

2019 Hyundai Veloster N price starts at $27,785

Pricing for the 2019 Hyundai Veloster N has been announced, with an MSRP starting at $27,785, including destination. Opting for the N Performance package will add $2,100. Standard performance equipment for the base Veloster N includes the 250-horsepower turbocharged inline-4, a six-manual transmission with rev-match downshifting, five different drive mode settings, an electronically controlled suspension, ventilated brakes, 18-inch wheels, Michelin Pilot Super Sport summer tires, six-way manually operated sport seats and an N-exclusive steering wheel. Other standard equipment includes LED headlights, proximity entry and push-button start, automatic climate control, two USB ports, Hyundai's 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and an eight-speaker Infinity audio system. The N Performance package ups engine output to 275 horsepower and adds an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, a variable exhaust, 19-inch wheels, Pirelli P Zero tires, and larger brakes. For comparison sake, the Volkswagen GTI starts around $28,500, the Honda Civic around $25,000 and the Ford Focus ST (may it soon rest in peace) around $26,000.
