This car was purchased new by my stepfather and he gave it to me when it had about 30,000 miles on it, so it has been in my immediate family since originally purchased. It is a Massachusetts car (born and bred!). I am selling it because it needs some work, and I can't afford to spend the money on it since I am now using my aunt's car and don't need two cars. I live on Cape Cod, so it hasn't had much city driving, mostly rural and semi-rural miles. I am a nonsmoker and smoking has never been allowed in the car.

This car has been very reliable. There has, however, been intermittent issues with a faulty sensors in the exhaust system and subsequently some sort of leak in the exhaust system. The check engine light is on and has been for several months. I believe this is due to something in the exhaust system as well. I'm not sure if it's minor or serious because I didn't want to take it to the dealer and have a Rejection inspection sticker put on my car (if I could afford to fix it). The inspection expired last June, and I was driving without a current inspection sticker since then, although it's been sitting in my driveway for the past 2 months (since I'm using my aunt's car now).

Aside from the exhaust system issue, it is in need of new brake pads and rotor work (but not replacement according to my mechanic). There is also an open safety recall on the front subframe (which transfers to subsequent owners). They said it would take up to 2 days to replace it, and the place is not close to me, so I never had it done because of the inconvenience and because there was no visible signs of the subframe rusting out (which was the reason for the recall). The rear subframe does show some rusting though, which is not covered under the warranty and may or may not be necessary to replace at this time.

I have not removed any parts from this car, so even if you don't want to fix it up, you could probably make some money from parts if that's your intent. The tires are okay (not great, but will pass inspection). I had a couple of leaks in one of the tires over the past year which I had plugged.

I have never had an accident, but there are 2 dents in the car that happened while the car was parked. In one case, my friend forgot I was parked behind her in her driveway, and she backed into the right, front fender area, leaving a noticeable, but not major dent. In the second case, I was at the post office, and a woman backed into my driver's side door (while I was sitting in the driver's seat reading my mail!). This incident was just a few months ago, and I decided not to pursue it with her because I knew I was getting rid of the car and--as my friends have berated me--didn't want to "stick it to her." It left a large dent in the door frame but it did not impact the mirror or the operation of the door or window.

The CD player does not work (there is a CD stuck in it). The motor for the sunroof is broken, but the car came with a handcrank, and I have used that since the motor broke, although you can't do it while driving! Also, I had a problem with a squirrel back in 2004. It chewed its way through the trunk into the back seat, so there's a hold in the foam seat in the back seat near one of the seat buckles. It was a very bizarre incident!

Lastly, the plastic/metal strip that runs the length of the hood (from the bottom of the windshield to the rear of the back window) came loose and was flapping so I removed it. If you look closely at the photo of the front of the car, you can see it's missing on the driver's side.

So, if you're a mechanic or want a parts car, this is probably the best bet for this car. Please feel free to ask any questions that I may not have answered, and thanks for reading this far!!

The registration expires at the end of March, so I need to sell it by then. If I don't find a buyer on eBay by March 22, I'll move onto other avenues, so I will require immediate payment and pick-up. If you cannot come to pick up the car on Saturday, March 23, or Sunday, March 24, in Falmouth, Massachusetts, please DO NOT BID. The car needs to be paid in full and picked up by then.

PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU ARE BUYING THIS CAR AS IS, SIGHT UNSEEN. I CANNOT OFFER BUYERS TO TEST DRIVE THE CAR. THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE AN INSPECTION STICKER AND AT THIS POINT, THE ONLY WAY IT'S LEAVING THE PROPERTY IS AFTER A TRANSACTION HAS TAKEN PLACE. I RECOMMEND HAVING IT TOWED EVEN THOUGH IT CAN BE DRIVEN DUE TO THE BRAKES AND OTHER NECESSARY REPAIRS AS WELL AS THE FACT THAT THE INSPECTION STICKER HAS EXPIRED. SO, AGAIN, PLEASE NOTE THAT YOUR BID IS BINDING.

2016: The year we talked about autonomy a bunch | Autoblog Podcast #497

Thu, Dec 22 2016

This week on the Autoblog Podcast, Mike Austin and David Gluckman take a look back at one of the biggest topics of 2016: autonomous driving. The thing is, there was a lot of news about autonomous driving, but not much in the way of autonomous cars you can buy. They also talk about what they've been driving lately - there was a good turbocharged compact car and a not-so-good turbocharged compact car. And then we round out the year with a quick Spend My Money. The podcast will take a break next week, but we'll be back in the new year with reports from CES and the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. And we're lining up some fun guests for future recordings. The rundown is below. Remember, if you have a car-related question you'd like us to answer or you want buying advice of your very own, send a message or a voice memo to podcast at autoblog dot com. (If you record audio of a question with your phone and get it to us, you could hear your very own voice on the podcast. Neat, right?) And please send trivia questions! You'll get the honor of stumping your fellow listeners, and we'll thank you too. 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe previewed in official renderings

Tue, Jan 30 2018

As we near its official reveal in Geneva, Hyundai is trickling out more teasers of the 2019 Santa Fe crossover SUV. This time, instead of a dark photo, the company released a pair of renderings of the new family car. From what we can tell, it's like a huge, subtle Kona. At the front, we can see the SUV version of Hyundai's corporate "Cascade" grille complete with mesh insert instead of the slats found on Hyundai cars. The most obvious connection between this and the Kona are the headlights. It appears illumination may be split between slim, angry lamps high up, and a set of extra lamps lower in the fascia. The front fascia also looks more upright and tough than that of the current model. From what we've seen in spy photos, the front fascia seen in the rendering will translate very closely to real life. The illustrations also suggest the new Santa Fe will have much more sculpted, detailed flanks, too. Bolder plastic cladding shows up on the rocker panels, complete with contrasting aluminum brightwork. Another nod to the Kona shows up in the wheel arches. The creases rise up at the back, similar to the Kona's plastic flares. The rendering also shows a crease just below the windows running along the length of the Santa Fe. Looking at the last teaser image of the actual crossover, this crease is quite prominent. At the rear, the plastic cladding continues along the bottom. The hatch also looks more sculpted than the plain slab of the current model. It also appears to be raked forward more. But the forward rake is countered by the window line on the sides that rises upward. As mentioned with the front fascia, comparing these renderings to spy shots and the previous teaser, it looks like the production Santa Fe will look very much like it does here. Only the exaggerated things like the ultra-slim windows and massive wheels with rubber-band tires will be altered by the hands of rational, practical engineers. As such, the Santa Fe should be a pretty handsome family hauler, and a slightly bigger one than its predecessor, when it makes its debut at the Geneva show in March. Related Video:
