Reader Spy: 2012 Hyundai Accent hatchback caught napping
Mon, 05 Jul 2010 2012 Hyundai Accent hatchback - Click above for high-res image gallery
Eagle-eyed Autoblog reader James spotted a camouflaged compact hatchback sitting in a parking lot in South Korea the other day, and fortunately for us, he had a camera with him. At first glance, this is obviously a new Hyundai based on the upward sweeping crease along the side that is characteristic of Hyundai's new 'fluidic sculpture' design language.
Closer examination indicates that this is almost certainly the five-door hatchback version of the new Verna/Accent that debuted at the Beijing Motor Show in April. The wheels are the same as the ones we saw on the Verna and the side crease extends ahead of the door cut-line which differs from the Elantra that debuted a week later at the Busan show in Korea.
Hyundai refining dealer strategy for premium models
Tue, 26 Mar 2013Automotive News reports Hyundai is set to give its sales strategy for premium vehicles a once-over. Moving forward, each of the automaker's five North American regions will have a premium product operations manager. Those managers will all report directly to a senior group manager based at the Hyundai headquarters in California. To begin with, the group will start by identifying what dealers are currently doing right to sell the automaker's luxury hardware. From there, the group will then help spread those practices to the 320 dealerships currently authorized to sell the Equus. All told, Hyundai has some 800 dealers in the US.
The move comes ahead of the launch of the second-generation Genesis and Equus. Both sedans are slated to hit showrooms by early next year. The Genesis debuted in 2008 with the Genesis Coupe following along in 2009, while the Equus first landed on US shores in 2011.
Hyundai reveals a fourth, autonomous flavor of Ioniq
Thu, Nov 17 2016Hyundai added a fourth variant of the Ioniq line at this year's Los Angeles auto show, but this one isn't headed for production just yet. It's an autonomous concept that Hyundai is using to develop affordable, integrated hardware and software. Integrating all the hardware is something Hyundai is quite proud of, particularly the positioning of the lidar system in the front bumper. Hyundai says moving the lidar gear to the bumper allows the Ioniq "to look like any other car on the road and not a high school science project." We wonder if that statement was directed to Ford and its autonomous Fusion prototypes. The three lidar sensors are combined with a variety of other systems aboard the autonomous Ioniq. A number of the sensors are already going to be installed on production Ioniqs, including the radar for the car's Smart Cruise Control and the lane-keep assist cameras. The car's blind-spot radar will also be used for lane changes. Hyundai says by using these existing parts, implementing autonomous technology should be simpler and cheaper. These standard Ioniq sensors are all supplemented with a GPS antenna, high-definition mapping data, and a three-camera system installed just behind the windshield for detecting pedestrians, lane markings, and traffic signals. The car isn't just for show either. Hyundai has three of the autonomous Ioniqs testing in South Korea, alongside a pair of autonomous hydrogen fuel cell Tucsons. The company will also bring two autonomous Ioniqs to the 2017 Consumer Electronic Show. The cars will be there to give rides to the media.
