This will be my third and final try to sell my H2 before leaving for the Bay Area at the end of Oct.  If nobody wants it for $10,500 (or a close offer), I'll just drive it out to the west coast towing my Honda Accord behind it, and put it for sale on the street once I get out there. I've seen an H2 with a flood/salvage title sell for $17,500 recently on eBay, and another one that it seemed to me wasn't as "desirable" as mine go for $12,500; so, from this and others that have recently sold, I must infer that I'm simply in the wrong area--probably nobody around here has the actual cash to buy the vehicle outright (except dealers, who've offered me up to $8500. for it, and of course then they'd turn it--and finance the vehicle, obviously, which I can't do--to somebody who would only look at the weekly, or bi-weekly, payments, and not the total amount they'd be paying for the vehicle in the end. Hell, I did the same thing when I bought it new: I financed it, because I couldn't afford a $59,600 vehicle outright. That's how everybody but the super-rich buy things in this (now) benighted country, isn't it? Ah well, if I start in on that I'll never get the car listed. . . . This is a good deal for somebody who actually has the cash to buy it outright; and if nobody does here in the vicinity of The TAW (that's Wichita to the non-cognoscenti--which group you've now joined by default by reading this missive, poor soul. . . .), well, as Popeye (or one of his minions) once said, "Them's the breaks, homes." Below is my original listing: nothing has changed since I first put it up on eBay last month.


I bought this H2 Hummer new in Feb. 2003, and have driven it continuously to date. The vehicle has been maintained by the dealership in Tucson, AZ, until last Dec., at which time I moved to Wichita, Kansas, which is where the vehicle is now. I "religiously" maintained the vehicle (you see, it's not a car, but I can't call it a "truck," either, at least in my own mind, so I'll continue to call it a "vehicle") at the Royal Automotive dealership in Tucson, having the oil changed every 3,000 miles, and, as recommended, everything changed every 30,000 miles. During its lifetime, the following has been done:
  at 118,000 miles, new AC compressor
new two-stage air compressor in 2006 (as I recall, when the original one started cycling continuously due probably to an internal short; the original air compressor was a one-stage
device; they went to a two-stage type compressor in 2005)
at 171,000 miles, completely rebuilt transmission
  radiator replaced in 2008
  both front hubs have been replaced
  both air-shocks have been replaced

  extras: Warn winch and Hummer luggage carrier; also truck shields (never used, still on original roll to be cut out so they will fit various places on the outside of the vehicle to prevent scratches while traveling off-road--which I have never done, by the way!)

Although the vehicle is "high mileage," practically all the miles are highway miles, and it is in very good shape.

What is "wrong" with it: two guages don't work (oil pressure and battery charging; the two least important ones, in my opinion, and the entire instrument panel has to be replaced at one fell swoop, so I've never done that; all the other guages have worked fine for the lifetime of the vehicle); the passenger side rear door window has to have the regulator replaced (this enrages me, because both rear-door window regulators are obviously of the "planned obsolescence" variety, and both have already been replaced, once, now I have to replace the passenger side one again; the front windows, which do get put up and down frequently, have never failed, so, to me, anyway, this is obviously just another MBA-corporate-asshole-planned made-to-fail-to-get-the-customer-to-bring-the-vehicle-back-into-the-dealership thingys, which frankly, I've had more than enough of in my 63 years on this planet--how about you?), which I will probably do myself before the vehicle is sold; the final thing is that only part of the six-way seat switch functions (movement front to back is okay, and so is putting the back of the seat at different angles, as is the "lumbar thingy" for the small of your back, but the seat will not move up and down vertically at present--I may fix this, too, before selling the vehicle). 
All in all, this is a solid, driving vehicle that I don't think anything major will go wrong on again, as I've fixed pretty much everything that could go wrong over the years; the tires are good (two are practically new, purchased in 2012), the AC blows cold, the CD with 9-speaker Bose system is the best stereo I've ever owned, etc.

An all-electric Hummer is reportedly under consideration at GM

GM is reportedly considering a return to the Hummer brand, but not in the traditional Hummer way. No, a report from Bloomberg says that GM is mulling over the idea of building an electric Hummer. The report cites unnamed sources within GM, as the folks prefer not to be named due to the private nature of the conversations. At this point, Bloomberg characterizes the Hummer talks as preliminary discussions. GM is figuring out how it wants to organize its future electric trucks and SUVs, and Hummer is a part of those discussions. Just as anyone would expect, Hummer could be used to profit off the current demand for rugged and tough vehicles. Mark Reuss didn't commit either way to a Hummer revival when asked by Bloomberg. "I love Hummer. I don't know. We're looking at everything," Reuss said. Other GM sources said that the company sees an opportunity to compete with Jeep for off-road vehicles that have creature comforts commanding high premiums. The report states that designers have done work with Hummer concepts, experimenting with Hummer styling to implement it on GMC-branded products, too. There's also the question of whether an electric Hummer is a smart move to begin with. Folks bought up Hummers before because they're big, brawny, good off-road, and gas was cheap. Gas is relatively cheap today, but attitudes around cars that achieve 10 mpg have changed. Rivian thinks that consumers are interested in premium electric SUVs and trucks, and the hype around that company is real right now. An electric Hummer would undoubtedly go after the same space as the Rivian R1S. The number of people willing to drop over $70,000 on an electric adventure vehicle is still untested, though. Even if GM did give an electric Hummer project the green light, we're still years away. We know GM is currently in development of an electric pickup truck platform, but that doesn't mean it's anywhere close to production. We haven't seen a new Hummer since GM halted sales of the brand in 2010. The recession and high gas prices drove sales down so low that Hummer declared bankruptcy in 2009, but GM still kept the brand in its portfolio. It's hard to think of a better time than the SUV and crossover hoopla of today to introduce something like an electric Hummer, but until we hear something more substantial from GM, the vehicle is going to remain a rumor.

GMC has received 65,000 Hummer EV orders so far

The GMC Hummer pickup truck only just went on sale, and already there's word from company brass that demand is higher than expected. According to a report from CNBC, Duncan Aldred, global vice president of GMC, said the automaker has received more than 65,000 combined orders for the current electric truck and upcoming SUV. What's more, the number of customers converting reservations into orders is humming along at 95%, which is also higher than the company projected. "Production’s actually slightly ahead of plan and weÂ’re putting things in place now to actually expedite that as well, so we can deliver these reservations quicker than we originally thought," Aldred said, adding that new orders placed today probably won't result in a delivered vehicle until 2024. "WeÂ’re doing all the studies on that and weÂ’re confident we can go a lot quicker than we originally thought," Aldred said, "But it still means a reservation now probably means delivering in Â’24." The version of the Hummer pickup that's currently being built is the highest-spec Edition 1 model. That truck ran at least $110,295, but since it's already sold out, new customers will be looking at Hummer EV 3X that starts right around the $100,000 mark before any optional equipment is added (and assuming you can find a dealer that won't try to jack up the price). At some unspecified point in the next year or so, GMC will start building a lower-cost Hummer 2X for $89,995. A year or so later, the  $79,995 Hummer EV 2 will make its debut. Mil-Spec built a one-off, track-ready Hummer H1

Mil-Spec is one of the latest companies looking for success with restored and modified versions of iconic vehicles. Rather than Porsche 911s or '60s trucks and SUVs, its canvases are Hummer H1s. The customer vehicles are big, brash off-road machines, but that's not all the company is capable of. We recently learned that the crew over there built a Hummer H1 meant for race track use, and it is amazing. The base vehicle is a four-door convertible pickup truck, and Mil-Spec thoroughly changed the suspension. It has custom coilovers with stiff springs, and the entire suspension geometry has been revised. Overall, it was lowered a stunning seven inches compared with a stock H1. The H1's in-board brakes now feature six-piston brake calipers, and the wheels are wrapped in low-profile Pirelli P-Zero tires. Under the hood is a 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8 similar to that in the customer models. But this one has been tuned all the way up to 800 horsepower and 1,500 pound-feet of torque. This engine also plays a role in this truck's origins. Apparently the truck was used for final powertrain testing and development. But it was also built to highlight the company's capabilities. If you want one of these, well, you can't have one. At least not yet. We asked a Mil-Spec representative, and he told us that there are no plans for offering track-oriented H1s. That's understandable, since the company is still working through building and selling its initial run of 12 off-road-ready vehicles. He did say the truck has generated a lot of interest, though. So, maybe when the company has time, and if a really wealthy buyer really wanted one, maybe the Mil-Spec could work something out. But at least in the meantime, the company is sticking to tall, chunky-tired H1s. Related Video:
