It pains me to have to list this, but I am selling my 2001 Honda S2000 Silverstone Metallic roadster. I have owned this car for over five years and it has been a flawless daily driver. It is a real rear wheel drive convertible sports car, so it is not as quiet as a Civic. S2000s are known for making a lot of noises while driving, but honestly this one is pretty quiet, especially since I got the new top. Here's a list of maintenance and mods:

31254 5/27/05 New Battery
37000 10/26/05 New Clutch (previous owner)
101244 6/1/11 Coolant change (Honda type 2)
106544 10/26/11 New Battery
113360 6/1/12 New rear bumper and taillights
118158 10/5/12 Front & Rear Brake Discs (OEM)
126890 7/8/13 New drivers side caliper

128080 9/1/13 Dome light, trunk light, and license plate light replaced with LED bulbs
128080 9/1/13 Air intake replaced with K&N FIPK (also have OEM air box)
128207 9/13/13 Berk High Flow 63mm Cat (also have OEM)
128207 9/13/13 Stainless steel brake lines
128360 9/24/13 New Robbins cloth soft top with upgraded rear glass window + rear defrost
128929 10/9/13 Passenger tie rod end boot

Oil has been changed every 5-6000 miles with Mobil 1 10W30 or 0W30 and OEM Honda filter.
Transmission fluid has been changed every 15000 miles with the correct Honda MTF
Diff oil changed every 30-40000 with Amsoil 70W110
Brake fluid changed every 2 years with ATE original SL.6 gold or ATE Super Blue
Brake pads changed every 30,000 miles and with rotors (Honda OEM)
Pollen Filter changed every 2 years
Spark Plugs changed at 96000 miles
Serpentine Belt changed at 96000 miles
Clutch fluid is changed every year with ATE brake fluid

Dash lighting upgraded to Qube Engineering LED dash (currently white, also have OEM and blue color diffusers)
Black chrome Honda emblems
Color matched keyhole plugs
Headlights are very clear
Factory radio replaced with Kenwood
iPhone/iPod holder and adapter mounted on dash
AUT Carbon Fiber Cooling plate funnels cold air into K&N
Moddiction Stainless Steel shift knob (also have OEM)
Russell Speed Bleeders installed

There are 2 sets of wheels/tires. OEM 16" AP1 aluminum wheels with Dunlop Z1 Star Spec fronts (~9,000 miles 2/3 tread left) and Dunlop ZII rears (3000 miles, 80% tread left). Also 16" painted steel wheels with winter tires (50% tread left). The wheels are in OK shape. They have been daily driven for the past 5 years and 80,000 miles, so they are not perfect but are round and balance perfectly.

The engine runs perfectly all the way up to 9,000 rpms. Lifetime average mpg is 25.86. Never tracked. I got this car to have a fun daily driver. It has never left me stranded or broken down. I wouldn't hesitate to drive this across the country. In fact I recently moved from the east coast back to Ohio and the car ran perfectly. I would expect this engine to run to at least 300,000 miles before needing any major work as long as regular maintenance is kept up. Heat is very hot and AC is very cold. No problems starting or running.

It just passed Ohio'e E-Check emissions testing with no problem.

The paint is in good condition considering this is a 12+ year old car with it's mileage. There are a few chips and light dings as shown and the paint has worn off the door mirrors as shown. My next project is going to be carbon fiber wrapping the door mirrors if this doesn't sell. The previous owner put a lot of scratches on the front lip as well. I was rear ended in 2012 at <5 mph and got a new bumper cover and tail lights. There was no frame or other structural damage.

I have bought and sold quite a few cars over the years on eBay. If you have any questions, please ask them before bidding/buying. The vehicle is listed locally as well, so I reserve the right to end the listing at any time. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer. If you have zero feedback please contact me before bidding. No International sales, no exceptions. All sales are final. I accept cash, wire transfer, and cashier's check. The vehicle will not be released to buyer until after any checks have cleared. My bank tells me this can take up to 14 business days. I will not end the listing before it is scheduled to end unless I have full cleared payment up front. I will not take a deposit or partial payments to hold the vehicle for inspection. Inspections are welcome at potential buyers' expense within 30 minutes of where I live.

180,000 new vehicles are sitting, derailed by lack of transport trains

Wed, 21 May 2014

If you're planning on buying a new car in the next month or so, you might want to pick from what's on the lot, because there could be a long wait for new vehicles from the factory. Locomotives continue to be in short supply in North America, and that's causing major delays for automakers trying to move assembled cars.
According to The Detroit News, there are about 180,000 new vehicles waiting to be transported by rail in North America at the moment. In a normal year, it would be about 69,000. The complications have been industry-wide. Toyota, General Motors, Honda and Ford all reported experiencing some delays, and Chrysler recently had hundreds of minivans sitting on the Detroit waterfront waiting to be shipped out.
The problem is twofold for automakers. First, the fracking boom in the Bakken oil field in the Plains and Canada is monopolizing many locomotives. Second, the long, harsh winter is still causing major delays in freight train travel. The bad weather forced trains to slow down and carry less weight, which caused a backup of goods to transport. The auto companies resorted to moving some vehicles by truck, which was a less efficient but necessary option.

Junkyard Gem: 1992 Acura Vigor

Wed, Apr 24 2024

Honda was the first of the Japanese car manufacturers to bring a separate luxury brand to the United States, with the (Civic-derived) Integra and (Rover-related) Legend appearing as 1986 models. By the early 1990s, Infiniti and Lexus had muscled in with their own gadget-laden luxury machines, with even Mitsubishi and Mazda offering legitimate competition for the two Acura models. Something had to be done, in the viewpoint of Soichiro Honda, and so the NSX sports car was introduced as a 1991 model, followed by the Vigor luxury sedan the following year. Here's one of those rare first-year Vigors, found in a Denver self-service boneyard recently. The idea behind the Vigor (which, like the Integra, Legend and NSX, was badged as a Honda in its homeland) was that it would squeeze in between the Integra and the Legend and steal some sales from the Lexus ES 250 as well as European machinery. The Vigor was a front-wheel-drive car, but its engine was mounted longitudinally and angled to clear the hood. The differential sat directly beneath the engine and received power via a tortured maze of shafts. The reason for all this powertrain complexity was the fact that the Vigor's engine was a SOHC straight-five that wouldn't fit the engine compartment using Honda's usual transverse mounting (though both Daewoo and Volvo managed the feat with straight-six engines later on). The U.S.-market Vigor's 2.5-liter five-banger was rated at 176 horsepower and 170 pound-feet. The base transmission was a five-speed manual, but this car has the optional $750 four-speed automatic ($1,696 in 2024 dollars). This car is the cheaper Vigor LS model, so its MSRP was $24,999 ($56,539 after inflation). You could get a slightly smaller but still feature-laden '92 Honda Accord EX for just $20,175 ($45,629 now), though, and the cushier (though less nimble) Lexus ES 250 started at just $21,300 ($48,173 in today's money). American car shoppers just couldn't figure out the Vigor, and sales were weak. 1994 was the final year for the Vigor, and the TL replaced it beginning as a 1996 model. This one drove just over 160,000 miles during its life. Don't think of it as a drive to work. Think of it as a 30-minute vacation. If you get a German luxury sedan instead of a Vigor, you'll be sorry! I miss you… S. As was nearly always the case during the 1980s and 1990s, the JDM commercials were more fun.

2015 Honda Fit shapes up for America [w/video]

Mon, 13 Jan 2014

The Fit may be Honda's smallest (and, starting at $15k, most cost-effective) model, but it has never sold in quantities that even approach those of the brand's larger offerings - at least not in the United States. Where American Honda typically sells hundreds of thousands of Civic and Accord models - even CR-V crossovers and Odyssey minivans - annual sales for the Fit typically amount to tens of thousands. But the Japanese automaker hopes to expand its sales in the segment with the introduction of the new 2015 Honda Fit.
Having launched the all-new model several months ago in the Japanese Domestic Market, Honda is presenting the new Fit to the North American market here at the Detroit Auto Show. By and large, it's the same model that will be sold around the world, having been redesigned with more aggressive styling, a larger footprint on the road and more interior space. Only now it will be built for North American consumption at Honda's new plant in Celaya, Mexico, where the automaker plans to also build its new Vezel crossover (or whatever it'll be called here).
The North American Fit ditches the hybrid setup offered in the JDM model in favor of a new Earthdreams 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with direction injection and i-VTEC valve timing to help it deliver 130 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque. That's 13 more horses and 8 more torques than the previous model, and the engine can be paired to either a six-speed manual or Honda's new continuously variable transmission. With the latter, Honda projects the Fit will get 33 miles per gallon in the city, 41 on the highway and 36 on the combined cycle. Lighter and more refined than the outgoing model's powertrain, the new engine sits in a lighter and more rigid frame as well, which Honda expects will earn it top ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
